Should I be worried about my pulse getting too high under stress or possibly during labor?

I am not an expert on this subject, but I can only speak from experience. During my labor I had a high pulse rate. This happened everytime I would talk to someone that was in the room with me. my nurse did not seem to worry that much, however she did come flying into the room every time she saw my pulse rate on her monitor go up. She just wanted me to try and relax some (which I thought I was) and limit my talking. However, she did not seem too concerned.
