i'm 37 wks and ob wants to induce in two wks ( when im 39wks) i dont want him to induce me, i've heard that it can be more painful than me going into labor myself, also another thing i forgot is that i've been 1cm for almost three wks. so any suggestions for getting labor to start ?

good idea by not letting him induce you! why would he want to any medical reasons? baby to big? Inductions are the reason the C/S rates are so high. It makes for long painful labors! I would just tell your OB how you feel he cannot induce you against your will. As for tips to start labor I tried everything nothing worked. Rasperry leaf tea, castor oil, evening primrose oil (helped with healing a ton though) spicy foods, s_x.. I found just walking alot was the key!

My doctor also wanted to induce me at 39 weeks and I told him I'd rather wait, but on my due date he said he thought the baby was big so I went for an US that said the baby was 8lbs 5 oz, I was induced 2 days later was in labor for about 9 hours and had a suprisingly 9lb 12 oz baby. I didnt have any pain meds and the labor was better than I thought it would be so dont worry too much if you end up getting induced but for now tell your docter you want to wait unless there is a good reason to go ahead and do it. I tried s_x, clary sage oil, raspberry leaf tea, and walking, nothing helped ( I even went to a park where there are 135 stairs for a few days in a row). I was even 4 cm dilated for two weeks. For now try anything you can, even if walking doesn't put you into labor I have heard it helps so you are good and fit for labor. Good luck!

Hello anwbeeson, I am on my 2nd but I am only 17wks prego right now, but I got induced with my first and I loved it, and then my doctor told me that he will be out of town for this one, so he said he would induce me early... I was SO thrilled, I think its better because you are in more control, well just as of my perspective...

One thing you could try is water.... dont laugh... I was thinking when i was in labor with babies... the Jacuzzi worked wonders and made labor faster!!! I also went in Labor the day I went swimming with my daughter!!!! So try swimming or something like that.....

I was induced twice. My labor wasn't all that painful and it was only 3hrs long both times. If you trust your ob I would listen to his advice.

If there is no medical reason to induce you then you are within your right to say no to the induction. I was induced due to In-hepatic Cholestasis with my last baby but the labour was no more painful than my previous two (only used gas&air) and it was as quick. The decision is ultimately yours but talk it over with your Doctor as to why he thinks it's necessary.

I was induced at 39 weeks b.c my ds was pretty big. I too was scared cuz I heard it can be more painful. Let me tell u....I would not mind being induced again. I didn't feel any contractions until I was already 8 cm. No epidural. I was in labor (including pushing) for 9 hours and delivered v____ally a healthy 9 lb 3 ox baby boy! Every pregnancy is different but induction does not make contractions worse. If you do get induced don't worry!!!! Everything will be fine!

Just a tid bit!! I have 2 children, one just turned a year this month. I was early with my first at 38 weeks, so when week 41 rolled around with my second, you can imagine my frustration. My doctor wanted to induce and I freaked out because I had heard the same story you had, "It causes complications, longer more painful births, C-section rates are up ....." The point is, I ended up being scheduled for induction on a Friday at 6 a.m. at 41 weeks, 6 days. My induction was even smoother than my first labor!!!! I was in by 6 and done by 5! The baby was 9 pounds and 4 ounces and I had her v____al!!!! If I hadn't induced, imaging how much bigger she would have gotten!!! Don't be scared of induction! Sometimes, it is the way to go! My water broke with my first pregnancy. Hope this helps.

my doc wanted to induce me cause she said my baby was almost too big to fit through my pelvis but i didn't believe her. i asked to wait longer and said she could sweep my membranes (aggitate the bag of waters but not break them) and sure enough that got me started felt like starting my period a little and after a few hours things picked up, got more regular and closer together and i had a drug free labor and an 8lb 7oz baby boy by the next morning. just fyi, during labor my hips hurt so my doula and bf took turns squeezing my hips in hard and it was soooo relieveing (turns out my hips hurt cause my body was cramping to squeeze them in to allow my pelvis to open for sage's head, so when they did it my muscles stopped cramping and sage's head fit right through) just letting you know cause i'd never have thought to do that but i'm glad my doula knew what to do. finally google "the birth of grey forest walt" it is an amaing birth story with beautiful (non-graphic) photos. it is inspirational!

If the doc has a reason to induce.. go for it. I always find that the "it hurts a lot" argument a little amusing. You will be in labor, a baby is about to come out of your v____a, no matter what you do, induced or not, it WILL be the most painful thing we have ever done in our entire lives. I personally like the idea of scheduling my birth in a time that is convenient for me, my husband, the doctor, and when I have a fresh pedicure, clean hair and shaved legs. I know it usually doesn't work like that but I can always hope. I am big on organization and not on spontaneity.

After all the horror stories I have heard abt induction I'll pa__s. Since this is my first I know I'll have plenty of time in early labor to take a shower, and get ready for baby. I am pretty sure pitocin causes stronger, more intense contractions than normal natural ones. Itleast thats what they were talking about on that show Birth Day, this girl was getting induced and her contractions got super intense once they gave some to her. I don't know, it just doesn't feel as right if it's not natural. Although I am a firm believer in epidural.

Well said marybeth. Five of my six kids have been induced. Labor is labor anyway you look at it. Frankly, my inducations have been less painful than my first baby. I will be induced at 38 weeks with this baby too. (medical reasons). I would never want to do it any other way again having had both choices, I would always opt to induce.
