I want 2 go into labour naturally as hated induction last time. My dr. suggested a memb. sweep and as i know little about it i' a tad nervous. Imust say though that reading the replies so many of you gave has helped put my mind at rest so THANK YOU!! But what about u negative fear inducing idiots? We all want honesty but surely we're all in the same boat and need some comfort not extra stress. At least ur in the minority and i'd recommend u keep such negative thoughts 2 urself as they can do no one any good!

I had my membranes swept at 39 weeks and oh my gosh it hurt so bad. My physician warned me though. He stated he was rough and if he was going to it he might as well do it for benefit. I delivered 2 days later.

had the sweep done. I think that a smear test is 100 times worse - not that bad at all to be honest. didn't work though - got to be started today.

having it done feels differnet for everyone and for some ppl it agony . i have a tilted uterus . and for me i cried. and believe me ive been through alot worse. i knewit was worth it because it iwll be me closer to my baby . it was very uncomfortable and than it was over with . but if she had to do it again i would let her

Perhaps it depends on how ripe your cervix is and on how dilated you are. Jamming a finger into a closed cervix is bound to hurt much worse than if you are already dilated.

Just had "the sweep"! I'm due in 1 week and want 2 go into labour naturally. Must say I was worried about it due 2 some of the irresponsible comments I've read. The reality was very different thankfully. The process, while not without some discomfort, was over very quickly. It did make me gasp but the midwife told me 2 take a deep breath and it was over! I remember saying "is that it?" - I was expecting it 2 go on longer. I had some cramping afterwards and have been uncomfortable since but I don't know yet what that means. I only pray that it works soon but if I had 2 have it done again I wouldn't panic in the same way. GOOD LUCK

what is a membrane sweep

I am 41 weeks today and had my sweep this morning, was nervous after reading the comments but it was not that bad at all! Felt like bad period cramps while it was done and then it was gone. Felt bit uncomfortable afterwards but nothing serious. I have had a bit of a show about 2 hours later and wanted to know if anyone had a show so soon afterwards and if that is any indication of how long things will take to start happening. My cervic is still long and no dilation - very disappointing!!!

I had a membrane sweep done today. It just feels like pressure. A little uncomfortable but not painful at all. Burning? not really. Like is aid more discomfort than anything!

Does a cervical exam feel somewhat like having your membranes stripped? I had one yesterday, and it hurt so bad! Lots of cramping afterward also... could she have stripped my membranes and not said anything? Please let me know.

I had it with my second child and I didn't think I hurt at all a bit uncomfortable of course but it wasn't horrible I think it all depends on the person doing it and the person having it done every doctor mid wife dose it different and I every person has a different body but I didn't think it hurt at all. I am now 34 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and am looking forward to my sweeping cause I know it will get things on the move more. With my second child after my second sweeping I had her. So maybe it will only take one time this time who knows every pregnancy is different

A membrane sweeping is NOT to induce labor but to help thing progress and reduce the chances of having to be induced and believe me I much rather have a membrane sweeping which doesn't hurt any more than a pap than have to be induced. I had to be induced with my first and didn't have the sweeping done my second baby I had the sweeeping done twice and then went into labor NATURALLY it is natrual birth they just boost the process a bit. If your body isn't ready to give birth you wont.

It isnt that bad. If you can handle the pain when the dr is checking to see if your dilated then you can handle this. When they are checking they just reach a little further and swipe their fingers like a windshield wiper. its bareable.

I have had 2 membrane sweeps now over 2 weeks and REALLY they are no worse than a papsmear. Sure it feels weird and a little uncomfortable, but not at all painful! So just relax and be calm.....its same feeling as a smear.

What is the earliest anyone has had a membrane sweep??

sarah - November 15

I just got home from my appointment, and it was not bad at all. They check for dialting anyway, and it's just a little bit longer, nothing to worry about......just a little uncomfortable, but are we not all going to have babies soon?? If it was that bad, women wouldn't be able to have babies!!!!
