Had my membrane sweep this morning at the hospital. Although I was nervous and tense, which they told me to breath through. I am 2-3cm dilated and hopefully this will start me off. Having a few contractions but still not sure if these are braxton hicks as I have loads of them during the past 2 months. If nothing happens I am booked in for induction Tuesday. But please go in for your appointment with an open mind, do not let negative comments from other people deter you from having one. After all its for the best interests of you and your baby. Good luck

Had my sweep yesterday morning at 10.30am it didn't hurt at all I bled for a while afterwards but thats about it I don't think it has worked though I'm due to have another on Wed. Midwife said I was 2-3cm and my cervix was very favourable and the head is deeply engaged, I am 38+6 with 2nd baby and I am 21 yrs old.

I had my membranes swept today, i couldn't believe the amount of pain i was in! Agonising and unbearable are what i thought of it! She couldn't do it properly because i was in so much discomfort. I have an induction booked for sunday and i'm scared now as they have to do more internal examinations and i'm petrified it will happen again. I'm only young and i've been tearful all day as it feels like i'm internally scarred! They said about a pessary for induction but now i'm terrified this will hurt again and as its my first i am not allowed anyone staying with me to comfort me. If i explain my situation do you think the health professionals can do another form of induction for me? :-(

I had it done yesterday and it didn't hurt at all. I didn't even know that she had done it. I didn't bleed and had mild cramping. I was all worried for nothing.

First of all, Good for you Lindsay. My thoughts exactly. Now, the membrane sweep I had with my daughter 3 years ago, was uncomfortable, bearly painful and I went into labor 12 hrs later. This is my second baby and I was pleased that my doctor offered to give me one. Again, uncomfortable and bearly painful. They sent me away and said likely to go into labor in the next 48hrs. Well, 2 days later I lost my mucous plug and 1 week later still no baby. Went back in for a second sweep and it was painful as I don't know what. I stopped my doctor from sweeping. It was a shocking experience. And YES very painful. So, don't knock the people for being honest about their experiences. I think it helps to be prepared for all out comes. I'll let you know if that sweep worked- just happened today.

im 40+4 and went 4 a sweep today and it didnt hurt at all. i think maybe it depends where your cervix is coz my midwife said some are hard to find. still mine was disapointing as she said it was really thick and that it probably wouldnt work. booked 4 another one on friday if that dont work i will have to be induced and i dont want to be!!!

I had my second membrane sweep yesterday at about 10am. I am 37 weeks and 4 days. First sweep didn't do anything to me and was not painful at all. My second was kind of painful but not that bad. But I am in pain now...contractions have been very strong all day today. Doc said i was 95% effaced and almost 2 cm dialated and once i reach 2 i am being induced. Tomorrow is my appointment, i shall see what happens.

A week went by after my 2nd sweep. But I had my baby girl March 15th. 8lbs 8oz 21"long. Yeah!! I must say, in my opinion, Babies will come when they're good and ready. ( with exception- of coarse) The waiting is unbearable especially when you don't know what to expect. Hang in there everybody.

OK lets just say IT HURTS A LOT. It is like having a really rough internal exam...and still nothing..i am overdue by a day today so hopefully in the next couple days.
San: sometimes the dr will decide to do it ify ou are getting close to your due date and they think the baby should be here soon. You can ask but they wont always budge because they are dr's for a reason and usually konw what is best for you and your baby!

I had mine (membrane sweep)done on the 28th of March. I am due today and nothing yet! I did lose a large glob of my mucous plug yesterday and I had very regualar contractions(though painless) for 5 hours or so. Can anyone tell me at what point I should consider going to the hospital when I am having contractions? My mother thought I should have gone last night, but the contractions didn't hurt so I thought I'd wait it out.
