castor oil does work however i would never recomend it it gives you the worst labor ever, what it does is gives you very painful diarrehea which gives you contractions which are painful enough all by them self plus the fact that you risk pooping all over the doctor while giving birth trust me not the way to go!! try rasberry tea this works well to induce labor, also get on your hands and kness and sway back and forth while reading a book or watching tv this puts baby in position, if nothing else fails try having s_x i know its uncomfortabe but there is a hormone in male sperm that softens the cervix, but for heavens sakes dont drink wine or any alcohol that just cant be good for you or baby.

I think that only if the baby is ready to come will any of the remedies work. i tried castor oil with my first and had her 10 days later. i am currently 38 1/2 weeks and have tried castor oil, clary sage and also evening primrose oil and have had no luck. I have now decided that i need to let nature take its course (knowing my luck i will have this baby late like the last one). I guess the remedies do work for some women but they didnt work for me!!!!!!

My aunt swears by castor oil. Had three successes with it. BUT if your body isn't ready, it won't work. I tried it last week, and I got diareah (not too bad)... then it was over. I just tried it for he second and last time. we'll see.... 3 tbs chased with OJ!!!!!

CASTOR OIL -- My aunt NEVER had the problem with poop in the labor room!!!!! She had successes three separate times. In fact, because she used the castor oil (which cleaned her system), she didnn't have accidental pooping problems which sometimes happen!!!!!!

Caullophylum is the same as Blue Cohosh which is not good for persons taking high blood pressure meds. I have high blood pressure and was researching natural induction for a few months now to prepare myself. So ladies beware. Thanks for the heads up Christian.
By The Way - when was your wife due and was she having pains already?

I think that it is just a fluke when women go into labour after they have tried something. I believe that the baby was really ready to come anyway. I have tried castor Oil, Evening primrose oil, clary sage, heaps of walking, warm baths and the list goes on and no baby yet. I have been trying these things for the last week. I did the castor oil and started having contractions but after 8 hours they stopped completely and now i am more anxious than ever. I have decided to let baby tell me when she is ready. even though i am not happy about the waiting. Good luck to everyone else who is trying any of these things. I hope they work for you!!!!

Did you only take one dose? You should take like 2 tsps every 8 hours.

I went into labour after drinking about 3 cups of red raspberry leaf tea with my first two kids but not sure if this was a coincidence as on the same day I drank the tea, a girlfriend of mine came to visit whom i hadn't seen in about 6 months so it just as easily could have been her. I'm due in 2 days with baby 3 so if it is late, i might call my friend!

Hi all. NEWSBREAK. My baby is here!!!! Thankg you GOD.
OK. I know I said I did'nt want to have the runs (and I tried Castor Oil with my last two and it did'nt work). I was due Dec 5th. I took 2 tbs of Castor Oil with equal amounts of OJ on Saturday night at 12am which was early Sunday morning. I had 1 bowel movement all night. I took the second dose 8 hours later at 8am. I had about 2 bowel movements all day. Pain started at about 1pm or 2pm and the intensified at around 4pm. i went to the clinic at 6:30pm and the the baby was born at 8pm. The pain comes quite quickly they started out at 7mins and I really thought they were false labour pains until it got worse at around 4pm. Everything is fine. The baby weighed 7lbs 4 oz. and she was 22inches long. Good luck to the other moms and safe delivery. PS:-I forgot to mention that I tore real bad.

ok.... I posted on Nov 16th and soon after that I decided (after reading all of the horror stories) that I wasn't going to try and induce myself. Well yesterday I went to the doctor and he said that the baby, by feeling my belly, was already in the 9 pound range! So right now I am eating a pineapple. After that I am going to put a hot rice buddy on my nipples and rub my feet. I told my man to bring me some evening primrose oil on the way home from work and we'll see where it goes from there. I have been having bracton hicks all week stronger and stronger and I told the doctor that I don't want this baby to get any bigger than it already is. I had a 9 pound baby before and I almost pa__sed out. If they gain an ounce a day from now on in, I'm in trouble. I WILL let you all know how I do.
