how long are braxton hicks contractions supposed to last for with each contraction?iam having what feels like contractions every 3-4 mins although there not excruciating pain they are more painful than the usual braxton hicks i normally get. i am only 33wks preg. dont know if i should go to the hospital or not coz i dont want to look stupid or waste their time

I had braxton hicks at 35 weeks. Sometimes they are very painful. Twice I had false alarms.. I am 40 weeks today. Just time your contractions. Real contractions start at the back and move to the front. With time, they become intense. They start at the top of the uterus and radiates to the lower abdomen.. This is my first preg as well but this is what I think...

thanks silvia for your help. it has stopped now so i dont know if it was just strong braxton hicks or false labour??if theres a difference between the two???

I am having strong contractions which are painful.. Seems like they are stretching me apart and someone poking needle or something.. Braxton hicks are just getting you ready for the big day.. Many first time mothers like you and me do get false alarms as we don't know what to expect. False labors usually look real in the beginning. Contractions painful, closer together, increasing in intensity and you can feel this for couple of hours. But they fade away after couple of hours.. Real contractions will not change in intensity with change in position, drinking water and etc. Believe me I am scared the same way you are but believe me you will know it when the time comes! You are 33 weeks and just relax your mind and don't think too hard about labor..because last couple of weeks are hard..So enjoy!!
