Katie... are they running HCG on you to have a better idea?? you cant go by LMP when you have had a weird period or took provera.. Hey, I found out I was pregnant day 5 or 7 of the provera. lol... Good thing we knew the exact date we had s_x, or else I would be a month off on my dates. lol..

Before doing anything, have the doctor check you with an abdominal ultra sound instead of a v____al ultra sound. They couldn't even see my sac with the v____al. It was when they used the other that they saw a sac, a baby, and a heart beat.

Vaginal ultrasound can pick up BEFORE the transabdominal... it depends on the age, etc. of the equipment as well. Vaginal ultrasound can pick up at about 1500 HCG, transabdominal about 2500 HCG..

I was 8 weeks. My sac was hiding behind a fibroid. They couldn't see it when they did a v____al. Only when they did an abdominal could they see it. The doc was planning a DNC and I asked to be checked once more because my HCG's were so high. So, instead of using v____al, they used abdominal ultra sound. And there, behind a big fibroid was a baby with a heart beat.

Tammy - why would they try and schedule a D&C if they didn't see anything with a transvag.?? Anyhow... any facility, doctor or anywhere will say that the transv____al is done BEFORE the transabdominal.. also, if you are suspected having a "complicated" pregnancy where the doctor sends you to the tech to do the ultrasound... they usually do both.. but, the v____al one is usually always more accurate. yet, that is as far as measurements, etc... They like to do both to compare, but will take the measurements off of the v____al one. Anyhow, yes... the reason they do both is, in case you do have fibroids or anything blocking the view.. since an ultrasound is by sound waves. Anyhow... I am glad they found yours.. still don't understand the whole scheduling you for a D&C before they find out whats going on. I would be upset about that one.

Also, at 8 weeks you should be able to see a gestational sac, etc. on either scans.. because you are far enough.. The transv____al scan is great for very early pregnancies.. like only a few weeks after conception since it can pick up sooner then the abdominal one.

Update to original post on July 28th. I was originally told that I had a blighted ovum by my Dr. and she wanted to do a D & C. I held off and waited another wk for a 2nd u/s which determined a fetus. They did see however blood surrounding the sac which the Dr. stated wld most likely result in 1st trimester loss or pre-term labor in the 2nd trimester. I chose to wait it out and did miscarry on Aug 7th, since which I have been yet to conceive again. I have not been getting periods since my miscarriage and my dr. just put me on provera to a__sist me with getting a period to predict ovulation and to do bbt. I have another appt in April if I am not pregnant by then they will start me on something..I have had 5 pregnancies w/ only 1 living child. I have been trying to have a child for 3 yrs.

Update on July 28th 05 post. I was told that I had a blighted ovum by my dr. she wanted to do a D & C but I wanted to wait another wk. Sure enough there was a fetus. However I was told that I had blood surrounding the sack which could either lead to a 1st trimester loss or pre-term labor in my 2nd trimester. I stayed positive and unfortunately miscarried on Aug 7th. I have been trying to get pregnant again but unsuccessful b/c I am not menstruating. Dr. put me on provera and wants me to do bbt come back to see her in April. I have had 5 pregnancies w/ 1 living child who will be 5 this yr. I have been trying to retain a pregnancie for 3 yrs.

Carolyn- I had my D&C on July 16th..... 5 weeks after the D&C I still didn't have my period yet... and my HCG was all the way down to 0.. (at 4.5 weeks after dnc it was at 5).... so.. I made an apt. with my doctor because I still hadn't got my period. Aug. 25th she put me on provera also. I was on 7 pills. Well, on Aug. 31st (with one pill left).. I decided to take a pregnancy test because I knew if I just stopped the last pill like that it can force a miscarriage.. and guess what.. it came back +. Went to the hospital that day and my HCG was at 134. So, I ovulated exactly 5 weeks after the D&C. I wish I never took the provera and just had patience. Anyhow... obvioulsy you have had your HCG out of your system for many months now since your D&C.. but, not always does provera work. I really hope it forces a real period for you and you can get things back on track. :) Are you doing any OPK's, etc.? Also, are they going to do test on you once you start your AF? Like day 3 and 7 after you bleed?? Just to check your hormonal levels, etc.?

Daniella- I was hesitant to even take the provera b/c I was afraid I might be pregnant. They gave me a pregnancy test but it would have been to early and they never did a blood test. The strange thing is that I started spotting on like day 7 of the provera. I didn't think that you were suppose to spot or anything then the day after you take the last pill it forces a period. the Dr. wants me to just do the bbt and I don't go back to her until April 11th. I was afraid that if I was pregnant that by taking the provera it would cause me to miscarry . Maybe I should have requested a blood test. I have been having cramps and sometimes the spotting is darker. Guess I will find out. When you went on Aug 25th and told them you hadn't had a period did they do a pregnancy test? What made you decide to take pregnancy test while on the provera. I asked her if it was possible to still ovulate even though one does not get a period and she said yes. Makes me wonder now. Hmmm.

Carolyn- no, you can get a period without ovulating... but you CANT ovulate and NOT get a period. If that makes sense. After you release an egg (ovulation)... and it doesn't get fertilized, you will bleed 14 days after ovulation. That is why they say the moment you see blood (not from taking provera, lol)... count 14 days back and that is when you ovulated (if you did).......... ANyhow....YES, you can bleed on day 7 of the pill... in fact, my doctor only gave me 7 pills to take. Some doctors only give 5 pills... so, your doctor probalby thought you needed more, but you didn't. Thats good!!! at least it worked. Well, the reason I took a pregnancy test day 6 of 7 of the pill is because I knew I had one pill left and if I was pregnant dropping the hormones like that may force a miscarriage (same as what you thought)... BUT because I lack progesterone. I lost 3 pregnancies because my body doesn't produce enough progesterone. So, heck.. maybe the provera helped me keep it since provera is a form of progesterone. Who knows!! All I know, is I was shocked to see that positive test and that day I went to the dr. and was given progesterone supplements that I was on until I turned 12 weeks pregnant. .. OK< SO IF you bled on day 7 and that wasn't your last pill, then you probably weren't pregnant. Usually it will force a miscarriage after you "haven't" been taking the pill for a couple days and your level drops too low. Also... on Aug. 25 they did not run any pregnancy test or blood test. I just told her I haven't had my period yet, but also... my hubby and I weren't together because of our jobs.... and we only ran into each other and had s_x Aug. 18th (the only day)... so, no way I would have a + test on the 25th anyhow. I don't think my doctor thought I was pregnant either. I just ovulated only days before and we didn't know. Does that help?

Daniella-Wow. You had been trying all that time and the 1 day that you had s_x got pregnant right away? Is that luck or what? My problem is that I know I can get pregnant I just have a problem carrying full term but I know I can do that too I have a son who if perfectly healthy. I got pregnant 2 yrs later and delivered that baby full term however she had trisomy 18 and only lived for 5 days. I got pregnant shortly after that and made it to 18 wks when the babies heart stopped beating. I had to have a D & E.I attempted to get pregnant again which led me to the most recent pregnancy that resulted in m/c at ~9 wks. It's been a real roller coaster over the past 3 yrs and I have experienced a lot of heart ache, I am trying to stay positive and hope that this next time will result in a full term healthy pregnancy. I took my lst provera today. I will let ya know how it goes at the end of the month when I take the hpt.

Carolyn- was that you took your "1st" pill or "last" pill? lol.. if you are bleeding already, you shouldn't have to take the pills anymore. That might not be too good. Might wanna ask your dr. Also.... are they going to run test on you around day 16 after the first day of bleeding to see if you ovulated?? They had me scheduled to test me day 3 after my AF and then day 16 after AF... but, obviously I never had to do those test since I had the positive pregnancy test. __ALSO, yea.. that was luck that we caught it in that ONE day. Especially since I had an ectopic and lost my right tube.. so, everyone calls our son a miracle baby. Its so funny because I use the saliva ovulation tester and it came back that I was ovulated or about to the 2 days before my hubby got home and I thought I JUST missed it. Well, I guess it gives you a couple days warning, for we just caught it. Maybe even on the 2nd day of ovulation....lol.. guess thats why its a boy... he's a fast swimmer. LOL

Daniella- My Doctor gave me a subsciption for 2 months and I do not go back to see her until April. If I do get my period and do not get pregnant this month when do I take the provera again.?She didn't tell me. Maybe she figured I would get pregnant again right away, the first month..lol.

Carolyn- ok.. Im really confused... so, most doctors give 7 pills of provera ONLY.... in hopes that it brings your AF. if your AF arrives then you stop the meds. and THATS IT!!! sometimes (actually quite often)... provera doesn't work and you have to take more or higher dose... but, once you get your period you are done. No need to take them anymore. Its to force a period when not having it.. so, once you get it... why keep taking it?? might want to ask your doctor about that. You are bleeding now, correct?? so, you should be ovulating in about 14 days from when you seen blood. Not always the case that you will ovulate first cycle... but, you might. Do you have OPK's?? also... this is just a jump start to get you going.

Daniella- No, they aren't giving me any tests She just told me to chart my bbt and bring the chart into her when I come back in April. If I am not pregnant by then she may want to start clomid or some other med b/c of the problems that I have had w/ periods.
