Daniella- No, they aren't giving me any tests She just told me to chart my bbt and bring the chart into her when I come back in April. If I am not pregnant by then she may want to start clomid or some other med b/c of the problems that I have had w/ periods.

Carolyn, Have you ever thought of getting the book "Taking Charge of You Fertility"? It is a wonderful book that can really help you get in touch with your cycle. I didn't get a period for years and used provera to get periods. After I would do a cycle on provera I would use clomid. (I suffered years from and eating disorder I a__sume caused the problem.) Anyway, I had one miscarriage followed by two births. Both the result of clomid. I then suffered a empty sac this past summer and another miscarriage. The problem I was now having was that I could get pregnant but couldn't hold the pregnancy. The ran a number of tests such as Blood disorders, genetic disorders for me and my husband and checked my tubes. The only thing that cam back was that I had a blood clotting disorder. I am now pregnant again (6 wks) and hopefully will go to term. But it was the book that helped me know when I was ovulating, how long each phases was etc.... It is worth the read and covers all areas of problems with getting pregnant. If you don't go to one I would suggest seeing a fertility doctor. They are more advanced than a regular ob/gyn and will test for things right away. If you can get pregnant their is obviously something else going on. i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you will be blessed with a child soon.

Carolyn- I agree with Kim... that maybe you should see a fertility doctor. Or are you already? Not sure if you said. __Kim__ did they ever try putting you on birth control pills and then taking you off and giving you hormone supplements after ovulation?? I have LPD.... I don't produce enough progesterone which is why I lost 3 pregnancies before this one. I would only ovulate a few times a year and would go about 3 months for a period. It was never normal. Not from the day it started when I was 15. I guess being an athletic girl/woman my whole life had something to do with not getting my period. I was told that being very active can supress your progesterone levels.. just as female runners may not get a period. ANYHOW.... my sister had the same problem and tried everything including clomid and couldn't conceive. After about 8 years, they finally put her on birth control just to get her cycles regular and hormones to par.... the first time she stopped the bcp's she got pregnant. After she found out she was pregnant, she had to do inject 2 shots of progesterone supplements in her b___t until she was 12 weeks. Now, there is v____al cream/gel (but this was years ago for her)... anyhow, yea... in the end it was becuase of birth control that finally worked. Sometimes you need to get all your hormones working properly to get pregnant and have a good pregnancy. Fertility doctors monitor this more than regular gyn's.

I have had a lot of test too. I have had genetic testing b/c of the prior pregnancy along w/ my husband. I have also had blood tests. The only thing they could see was a positive aa test which could be a sign of lupus. I had that test done and was told that it appears I am fine for now but it could develop later on and should be re-tested yearly. How long after coming off the provera should I get my period? Has anyone taken this before? I tool my lst pill on the morning of the 10th and still yet to get it..just some light spotting. I expected to get it like the day after taking the lst pill. ..Daniella, with the provera I thought that this is something that you are suppose to take every month kind of like a birth control pill but are you saying that you only take if 1 month? Then I should cont. to get my periods monthly unless I get pregnant?

you may only need one month but if you are not getting eriods they will probably keep giving it to you to bring a period on. I took it for 4 months years ago because I was not ovulating. I guess everyone is different. You should keep a paper with questions you think of to ask your doctor. It's funny how once you see them you forget things you wanted to ask. This way you will know where they are coming from and why.

Daniella- I was wondering, your dr. did not tell you to wait a couple of cycles b4 trying again? My dr. put me on birth control pills and told me to wait 3 months. That was really hard b/c I wanted to start trying again right away. I know that is the best time to get pregnant is right after you have had a baby or been pregnant. I did not take the pill for the full 3 months though b/c i know that my body takes a while to get use to being off the pills. That was what I was afraid of and now it has been 6 months since the m/c and now I am having problems.

The provera doesn't make you ovulate. Its just forcing a bunch of hormones into your body and then when you stop the last pill the hormones drop and your suppose to bleed. Its actually a fake period... but doctors use it to just start it. It doesn't always work. I know so many woman that took it for 5 days and stopped and never got it.. so, the doctor gave it again for 7 days.. took it and stop and never got AF... then gave it to them for 9 days, took it and never got AF. Everyone's body is different and most doctors will tell you that you may not get your period when you stop. The spotting may count because you see blood. Yet, the fact is, it may not be a real period. The provera just fakes your body out. Just as Kim said, you really need to keep a list of questions and ask each one to your doctor and see what he/she says. The reason you may need to go back on birth control is just to get everything working properly and then stop and you should get pregnant. I was told only days after my D&C that my uterus was already back to normal. My doctor never said to wait. The one that did my D&C said that its protocol to say 3 months, but whenever I'm ready, I can. I actually wasn't even thinking about trying seeing that my hubby and I were away from each other. 5 weeks after the surgery, he came home (military deployment)... and we had s_x only that night. Well, a week after that and still no AF the doctor put me on provera for the 7 days. She said I should bleed within 3 days of the last pill... then 3 days after I bled, she wanted to run test... then 16-17 days after I bled, she wanted to run more test to see if I ovulated. If I didnt, she was going to put me on clomid (although, I told her I didn't want it.... but, that was just her talking).... Her words were, "we will make you pregnant!"... lol.. and those test would have been the first period and then the TTC would have been right after for the next cycle. So, there was definitely nothing about waiting 3 months. Yet, each body is different and maybe your body needs birth control just to get back to normal and then once you stop, you should get pregnant. Let us know what the doc says. :)

Daniells- just wanted to answer some of your other ?'s too. My periods never were normal. I would skip months at a time, then when I would get it, it was really bad. So when I was 17 I went on the pill by the advise of my family Dr. to help regulate them. So really I had been on the pill for years until I decided to start a family. When I got pregnant for my son I did not get pregnant right away and it took months b/c I was not getting regular periods my dr at that time had put me on I believe it was clomid. I don't really remember b/c it has been almost 5 yrs. As I previously stated I took the provera for the full 10 days but started spotting around the 7th day. I have continued to spot like pink, sometimes brown blood. Not enough to wear a pad though. I wonder if I should take a hpt. My concern is that everytime I have been pregnant (5x's total) I have spotted or even bled and never even knew I was pregnant until around 10 wks. So it is confusing b/c I am spotting around the time when I should be getting a period but I never get a "real" period w/ regular bleeding. So I am a little concerned w/ the provera that I have not gotten my period yet. I am still wondering why you took a hpt when you were on the provera? What were you taking the provera for? Did you just have a feeling that you were pregnant again?

Carolyn- I think maybe your period was actually on its way and when you started the provera you slowed it down... See your progesterone rises to its highest before your period. When ovulation doesn't occur, your progesterone drops dramatically.. forcing you to shed that lining of the uterus and get your period. When you take provera (usually given 7 days worth)... it is faking the same thing... you are forcing all these hormones in your system and then after the last pill and not having anymore hormones you are suppose to bleed. Well.... maybe you were going to get period and your levels were low... then you took provera and your body was like, "hey, what ya doing"..... and made your levels high again, to keep you at spotting and not a full period. My doctor told me that once I seen blood on the provera, to not take another pill. Because its already coming. FOr if I kept taking the pills with the spotting, I'm basically holding it back... ANYHOW.... I was just like you (and will be again after this baby).... with never having regular periods. I never knew when they would come. Usually every 3 months or so. Never knew!!! I found out after 3 miscarriages that I have LPD (luteal phase defect)... Do a google search... it sounds like you may have it also. One of the main signs is irregular periods. My sister also has it and was trying for a baby for 8 years and finally went on birth control to get her hormones working and then purposely missed the day(s) and that is how she ended up getting pregnant. Once she found out she was pregnant, she had to get 2 shots of progesterone in her b___t every day until she was 12 weeks... (this was years ago when the v____al supplements weren't big or out yet). As far as your question about taking a HPT when I was on provera.. I had already answered that ;) but, I will again... I took it the day before my last pill because I knew that if I stopped it cold turkey that dropping all those hormones like that at once would force a miscarriage. So, I had no symptoms.. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't pregnant. Well, I am glad I checked because d__n... I was! lol... I conceived on the 18th and it was the 25th I started the provera and the 31st that I got the + pregnancy test. I had to start supplements right away that day, to keep my progesterone levels high.... Oh yea, provera is a form of progesterone. Anyhow... yea, your doctor can try to make you get your periods.. I just think 9 pills is a bit on the high side. Just talk to your doctor about this. How much is the spotting?? Is it a light period, or just a tiny bit of blood on the tissue??

Daniella- It is just spotting. My friend, who is 5 months pregnant and also had trouble getting pregnant and took provera told me to call my Dr. if I don't get my period by tomorrow which I think I may do just to get a piece of mind. This is crazy. I feel like my whole life is consumed on a daily basis w/ trying to conceive and maintain a pregnancy. My dr. did tell me that when and if I do get pregnant again that she may want to put me on low dose of baby tylenol. I wish that is something that they would have tried w/ prior pregnancies...My sister also had troube conceiving, she wnt through yrs of infertilty drugs and treatment. I was an egg donor for her and she had a b/o resulting in m/c. 2 yrs later she became pregnant on her own after 12 yrs of trying. I know it will happen for me it's just a matter of patience, which at this point I have none of. Thanks for all the advise. I will keep you updated

Carolyn- thats great to call your doctor. Heck, like you said.. its your body and you want to know whats going on. Also, baby aspirin is what they usually give patients with this disorder, along with progesterone. So, I think it may actually work. :) You just have to get pregnant first!! hehe. Try not to stress too much and stay strong. I had irregular periods my whole life since I started at age 15. The best pregnancy I've had is this one I am currently on after all I went thru right before this. So, you will be blessed when the time is right! I wish you the best of luck and make sure you make a list of questions and get them all answered to your liking. Good luck!!
