I am supposedly 7 weeks pregnant and am experiencing spotting (brown) on a daily basis. I've never experienced spotting in the first trimester with my previous pregnancies. Today I went in for an u/s and the tech couldn't detect anything via belly u/s. A v____al u/s was done and she said she could only see a small sac which appears smaller than 7 weeks. She could not detect h/b not see the fetus. I don't know what to think at this point. After I read all of your posts, I feel more disheartened as I did not know there's such a thing as "empty sac" before I looked it up. Will keep you posted.

Just to update whoever out there is reading this, I went to see my Obs two days after my first u/s as I was bleeding pink and the bleeding had become more heavy (still just a pantyliner amount). It was confirmed yesterday by the u/s result that the pregnancy is not viable and that no fetal pole was found in the relatively small sac.. (what appeared to be a yolk sac). My obs then did an internal exam and said that I would expect more bleeding and cramping in the next two days. Sure enough, I was alraedy bleeding red as I was waiting in the waiting room of the Obs office. By early evening, the cramping started and I pa__sed some tissues this morning. I still have to go thru more blood tests to make sure there is no fetus growing in the f. tubes. My emotions were like a roller coaster ride and I would find myself crying hysterically at times and then I would try to contain myself at other times. Somehow it made me feel relief that at least the baby is not hurt (as there was "no" baby formed yet) and that I didn't lose "a baby". I try to tell myself that I'm griefing for the loss of a pregnancy and not the death of a baby. I don't know if it is helpful for those of you going thru the same thing to think this as we often think pregnancy=baby. Some how this very fine destinction helped me. My obs told me that this is very common, she sees it on a monthly basis in her office. The rational part of me can understand the stats and that it's not uncommon, but the other part of me was really really hoping that I could be the exception and not one of the stats. Anyway, now that I know, at least I can end the emotional torture. Good luck to you all!

SunshineUSA - I just went to the dr today and was told there was a sac but nothing in it. I have to go back next week for another ultrasound. i am 36 and I have been taking vitamins for over 2 years. I have not had any bleeding. I'm feeling devastated. I feel like being hopeful is being unrealistic.

It sounds like a molar pregnancy. I had one . No Baby just a Sac and the HCG levels went up to 117,000 , I had a D & C (suction) and then had to go weekly for blood work until the HCG levels went down to " 0 " then monthly for a year. You cant get pregnant after this for one year. After the year you can try again. I had a transv____al ultrasound to confirm this at 7 wks.

Yes. the same thing to me as well. At 7 1/2 weeks went for an U/S and saw an empty sac measures about 5 weeks and 4 days. Yesterday at 8 weeks and 4 days, saw the sac grew a little bit but still empty then my doctor concluded that I have blight ovum. She told I have a few options. Just to wait and miscarry natuarlly, or take a medicine to induce miscarriage sooner, or get the D&C. I chose D&C and going in on Monday for that. I cried hard yesterday but today I decided to move on and put an end to this going nowhere pregnancy and try to stay healthy and conceive again with a healthy baby next time. My last week was the longest week of my life to wait for the follow up u/s. During that week though, I was hoping that the ultrasound tech might have missed it and hoping that the baby was hiding somewhere. Until the 9th week of your pregnancy at least, try to be hopeful and positive. I don't think you can't quite prepare emotionally what to come anyways it will just be harder for you to imagine the worst. And when the moment comes and you do hear the worst news, I promise you, you will get over with and move on faster than you thought you would. At least we know we can get pregnant right? I am going to be hopeful to be pregnant again. I am just so thankful to have a loving, supportive husband. And I am sure we will have a baby soon. Be strong and hopeful ladies, I know it's tough, you will be alright.

oh i forgot to mention, so after the D&C on Monday I will have a follow up in 2 weeks and my doctor said we can try to conceive again after 2 menstration periods and shouldn't have any problem conceiving.

im sorry to hear that Tamara. I am also going through my 6th miscarriage and my doc said its most probably because of blighted ovum. I hope things go well for you and all women here. I am at the very end of my patience level . its extremely extremely hard

I am too in the same situation as all you women. i have been told that although the sac is growing there isnt no yolk sac or baby there. My blood tests show that my hormones are rising but not enough so they all thought i was ectopic. i have been in hospital for the last 24 hrs. just come home gotta go back in tomorrow for blood tests again and im booked in for another scan on monday then im in antenatal on wednesday for the final results. my dr says she never lets her patients go over 20mm when empty, only, if my hcg levels double she says she might let it continue.

Hi There, Tamara, good question. i am in the same boat. i saw a pregnancy sac, possible yolk sac but no baby. Is it possible that dates can affect the scan. My first day of my last period was 8th June, i have a 28-37 day cycle. really worried.

wow. lots of info on here. OK well here is my story so far. I am 7 weeks pregnant. I was only 2 days late when I got a positive home pregnancy test on 6/27. The next day i had heavy brown spotting which slowed down alot and since then it has been minimal and for this last week, hardly at all. Because of the spotting my doc had me get my HCG levels checked on 7/30 (300) & 8/1 (600) which was exactly where it should have been as I was told. So I just had my first US on 8/15 and I was able to the yolk sac, the heartbeat...all was good. Today, 8/18 I had some pretty heavy bleeding (after intercourse) and so I went to the ER just to be safe where they did another US but this time, they said they saw 2 sacs, 1 with a baby and 1 without. The bleeding they said was just from having intercourse and everything seems fine with the baby and they didnt seem to feel that the blood was because of the empty sac. They also mentioned a possible subchorionic hemmorage which could be the cause of my brown spotting. Anyway, I was told to follow up with my doc oin 2 days and to make sure I have another US no later than next friday to see whats up with the empty sac. I am just so grateful for the internet and the people who share their stories because I left the ER with my head spinning wondering what the heck they were talking about! Anyway, I will keep you all posted on my situation and I will keep you in my prayers as well. Best of luck to all of you.

well, this just happened to me. Last night my husband and I went to my first appt. I was 9 1/2 wks pregnant. At the ultrasound, the dr. said he couldn't see a heartbeat. He then scheduled us for a better ultrasound (in an ultrasound lab) for this morning. There, they located a sac but no fetus was inside. He said this happened w/in the last week, as the sac was 9 weeks plus 2 days. He said I miscarried and the fetus was absorbed into the sac. I had a D and C. Good news is the dr. can test for which genetic abnormality it was, and he said I can begin trying to get pregnant again once I get my period. He said this is VERY common, especially during weeks seven through 9. I wish you the best of luck. This sucks!

I am in the same situation, I am 6.5 weeks and the doc told me that my sac is empty, I need someone to tell me tha they are okay and the baby is okay.
