Hi! It's Gina from Napa, they won't let me use that user name for some reason. Anyway I too have MTHFR with an elevated homocystine level. I am currently taking Baby Aspirin, Folic Acid, Vitamin B6 and B12. When I get pregnant I will have to start the Levenox shots. I had a miscarriage back in October and my Dr told us to wait only 1 cycle and then try again. So we will have an IUI next week.

can anyone explain to me what baby aspirin is and is it best to take it if you have had a miscarriage

Mary - February 15

From my understanding, the baby aspirin helps thin the blood to decrease clotting. Gina, what are Levonex shots?? I feel that my dr. doesn't always give me what I need till it's too late...I have the MTHFR mutation so maybe I should ask what I need when I get pg? I just got my progesterone results back from cd23 and they were 0.9? I feel like I'm o'ing now though cuz I have the ewcm today...

Yes, the baby aspirin thins your blood so blood clots don't ubstruct the nutrients to the fetus. If you have just had a miscarriage with normal test results the Aspirin will not help. It won't hurt but they usually only advice that you take it if you have some kind of blood clotting factor. Levenox shots are anothe name for Heparin which is a prescription blood thinner. KP- Congrats on the BFP! I remember you when I was on back in October!!

Nicola - Baby aspirin is used in women who have had miscarraiges only after they have been tested for possible causes. Blood clotting is a common cause for miscarriages and the baby aspirin is used when the blood clotting is diagnosed. I would not recommend taking it if you have not had any testing or been instructed by your doctor. Some women opt to get testing done once they have had multiple miscarraiges (I have had three). But generally I don't think that dr.'s usually are proactive at suggesting testing if you have only had one. They certainly can do testing if you want it though. Also, the further along you are in your pregnancy, the longer they usually want you to wait. For instance, in a 5 week pregnancy loss, you generally can try right away. With a 12 week loss, you will probably be instructed to wait longer (to get your uterus lining thickened up again). Hope this info helps....

the nurse that called me back (re: my cd23 progesterone 0.9) thinks I could not have been pre-o on that day. I told her I've been having ewcm from days 23-25 and that I don't have a normal o cycle. I think progesterone rises after o so I think it's possible that's why my number was so low?

i had another ultrasound today and still no heartbeat. doctor said the measurements didn't change much since my last exam. i was having a slight yeast infection and was prescribed a gel last time. i am wondering whether i killed my baby by using that (although the doctor said it was safe). although everyone says it's not my fault but still think it is and i must have done something that i shouldn't. we are planning to do IVF and determined to get our baby back soon...

Mary - February 17

Anita, I know it's hard not to think you did something, but really you didn't! I know the gel for yeast infections are ok. Also, the things you would've had to do to cause a m/c are heavy drinking and d.rugs and extreme sports. When do you go back for another u/s??? Before you try IVF, maybe you should do blood testing because it sounds like you can get pregnant, but something is stopping it from developing normally (and IVF can't prevent that). I've had 2 m/c's and they finally found out through blood testing that I have a gene defect that is treatable through meds. You didn't do anything to cause this! Don't lose faith!!! Thinking of you

thanks so much mary! this is already my second u/c so i decided to have the d&c. they all told me that if i don't do it for too long, it may develop some bad things etc. thanks also for your information. i will talk with my doctor about what tests that are available to determine the cause of this and hope we can find that out and get it sorted!

anita- this is definatly not your fault. ive just been through the same thing and i blamed myself because my baby stopped growing the same week i had flu and a really hagh temperature but i no now there is nothing i could have done to stop this happening. You will have a baby, this is just gods way of making sure when you do have one it will be as healthy as possible

I just got out of the hospital . they thought i might have a ectopic pregnancy . but i have no pain . so they checked my blood for hcg level of pregnancy. they said it went from 2165 to 1667 . i was scared either way .they stoped me for eating for 2 days they said because they might have to do surgery but they didn't .but finally i did eat so i'm hoping my hcg level goes back up . now i'm praying and now i am still keeping some hope . but clearly if it is a micarriage then this would be my second one in 3 months . from my previous experience from bleeding , i bleed for 28 days but the hcg level with this one was 500 to 300 and just kept droping, what is so messed up is that my doc never told me how farlong i was . but sameen if you are having a miscarriage then you will experince alot of cramping , bleeding will pick you . the best thing we both and all can do is wait and beleive if this fell then we can curry a full term pregnancy one day . please beleive that .

hi I had thesame problem and I did all the test but they keeped on comming back very low and at 11 weeks i had a miscarriage. My advise is to take care of your self and stay off your feet good luck

anita - February 21

thanks nicola. i will keep trying and ask my doctor to do all the tests to find some clues so we can hopefully do a better job. i had the d&c done last friday and had a low tempeture yesterday. i was so nervious about possible complications from the procedure so i went to the ER. they said that there were some blood clots and thick linings trapped inside. no wonder i almost didn't have any bleeding at all after the procedure! i don't understand why that happened. the other doctor i consulted before the d&c said my cervix is very tight. wonder whether that has anything to do with my not getting pregnant easily
