I just found out that my 19 week songram showed a 2 mm spot on the fetus's heart-echogenic focus. Because everything else seemed fine the dr is not rec. amnio, but I will receive another sonogram in the future. I know I should be calm, but my emotions are getting the best of me and I can't stop sobbing long enough to get ready for work. Anyone else have this finding???? Was the baby OK?

Anne there is a post under "over 30 and pregnant" which is t_tled echogenic foci spot on heart and it is really helpful. My baby also has this spot but im positive everything is okay! Do not worry because it is more common than you think because of the newer technology being used.

I agree with Jessica from my understanding it is very common but I know there is always that chance that something may be wrong but just keep the hope and faith and I am sure all will be well good luck

Jessica and r, please keep me posted as you find out more about your banies and he echogenic foci. I have read that it can dissapear by the time we give birth or by the time the baby is 5.

Hi Anne, I had my first u/s done at 18 weeks where we saw the spot and had another u/s done at 25 weeks where it has not got any bigger. The doctor is not worried at all about this spot. I will keep you posted though. My baby boy is due March 28th so not to much longer!

I'm 32 and I had an u/s done on Friday 12/16, everything looks normal with the baby with the exception of a small white spot on the baby's heart .An amnio was mention to me and I took it. The blood test is negative for d/s,but I need to wait for the amnio results and I have no sleep for 4 days already.can somebody tell me if there is common to have a false negative on the blood test and positive in the amnio?, or did any body had a similar situation? Please I'm desesperate and I need all the examples or similar situations. Thanks

Thanks for the posts. Keep me posted,. I have done a lot of research in med journals and on the net and it does look like the finding is meaningless without other abnormalities. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi, I currently have a 3 month old baby boy...I am 35 and at my Level II ultrasound they found 2 echogenic foci...I was not told until I reviewed my medical records 4 weeks later and found the notation...I did not do the amnio because the risk out weighed the benefit...I was terrified the entire pregnancy but a__sured by all physicians that the baby would most likely not have downs...I was releived after the birth to find out he was and still is perfectly healthy. I know it is difficult but have faith and good luck.

I too found out at my 18 week u/s that my son has a spot on his heart. I have been rea__sured that these findings are more and more common nowadays b/c of advanced technology. I am now 30 weeks and there is light at the end of the tunnel and am looking forward to his arrival...but at the same time cannot help but worry. I will post soon after his birth of my outcome EDD 3/11. I know i check into this website periodically to see if anyone has updated with their story....it does help to read. Good luck to all of you who are going through this with me...you are not alone.

Thank you Shea4 and Sherry. I go to a team of Drs and the one I met for the first time today at my appointment told me that a lot of her patients have had the echogenic focus finding. I found that rea__suring. I will keep you all posted on future sonograms and the birth! Best wishes to all of us!!

I am 20 weeks and just found out yesterday that my baby girl has a spot on her heart. I go to a specialist in 4 weeks for another ultrasound. There are no other markers and my AFP was normal, but it is still scary. Thanks to this website, I feel comfort in hearing other stories.

i was told that my little baby had a problem with her kidneys so i had to go for a level II u/s which confirmed that her little kidney was dilated and that she had an echogenic focus on her heart. i was told my little girl may have down syndrome because these are both soft markers for it. i had to wait two months for my next u/s, i went freakin nuts. I had the u/s and both markers were gone they cleared up on their own. my little girl is now 5 months old and perfectly healthy. i personally think that they are so little and just need more time to develop.

Jennifer - January 5

Thanks Tina for that. I'm so glad to hear that your little girl is okay. With everything I've read, it sounds like maybe the doctors are doing more harm than it's worth by telling us this info. so early.

my doctor was so p__sed off that they let me leave thinking that my little one had ds. they are telling us way too much and just worrying pregnant mothers who are already worried enough just being pregnant. it is too bad we can't enjoy our pregnancies

We went to a Fetal Heart Specialist yesterday and it turns out that the echogenic heart focus was misdiagnosed by the OBGYN. We are very relieved, but wish we had seen the specialist right away instead of waiting for 3 weeks.
