Mary - I know how you feel...I am interested to hear back as to what your OB says about removing the IUD (that is if everything is in the uterus and not in fallopian tubes). My OB said it needed to come out - she tried numerous times but w/o success..I was 6 weeks pregnant on Monday and they could see it on the ultrasound. Supposedly they say a large percentage of pregnancies are in the fallopian tubes and if this is the case for you they will most likely do some kind of procedure to remove it. If you are "lucky" like me and it is inutero then the dr. may suggest taking out the IUD if you want to continue the pregnancy. Good luck - I hope all goes well at your appointment.

Hi there Well I just finished reading everyones posts, and well i have had the Mirena for the past 5 years. My periods stopped a month after having it inserted and I was happy to notice that I had lost the much needed weight that I was still carrying around. However, lately I have been having the same symptoms I had 5 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. I am extremely fatigued, my b___st are very tender, I am very bloated, and my appet_te has skyrocketed. I have not yet tested to see if there is that chance. I am tempted to do so, but I think I am in denial. I keep telling myself to just purchase a test, if it is positive then we will deal with it. But I keep hearing my doctors words, "you have nothing to worry about, your chances of getting pregnant while on the IUD are slim to none." This would be my second birth control baby, my son is a pill baby. Does anyone have any advice...Thank you. Tanya

oh my, I decided to get an IUD put in after my baby is born but with so many people getting pregnant with one I guess I need to rethink the birth control thing. I can't believe so many of you got pregnant when it is 99%

I have no answe myself, but I also have a Merina IUD, placed a little over 1 year ago. It was my 2nd IUD. (I became pregnant with twins after the removal of my first). Anyway...I have been feeling strange for about 6 weeks and just got a positive pregnancy test. I am not sure what to do either, but I understand your concern. I would discuss with your doctor the risks of removing vs. keeping the IUD. My understanding is that as long as the pregnancy is progressing fine to this point then it is okay to leave the IUD in through the duration. Let me know how things are going. Espearpatterson@aol.com

Please, please, please...those of you that believe you may be pregnant and are hesitating taking a test because you are in denial..you MUST take one. If you do get pregnant with an IUD there is a chance it is a tubal pregnancy and you will need medical a__sistance. On the other hand, if the pregnancy is in utero, and the embryo is far enough away from the IUD, the doctor can safely remove it EARLY in the pregnancy. DON'T wait until it's too late - you will either miscarry, lose a fallopian tube, or cause severe damage to the fetus.

Mindy and Megan- I also have taken 3 pregnancy test and my doctor is also confused, she says "My body has convinced itself that it is pregnant". I am awaiting the results of my blood test I took on Friday for pregnancy. I feel pregnant, down to the hiccups... My doc has made me an appt for a "second opinion". We should do our best to keep each other posted. It is very strange to have all the symptoms and not be preg.

Hi Megan - After taking the home pregnancy test, I took a blood test to confirm and then had a sonogram as well..The blood tests came back as a "normal" pregnancy but being that IUD is "stuck" I am in a situation where I need to make a decision as to continue the pregnancy with the IUD in place, terminate the pregnancy, or try and dialate the cervix so they can remove the IUD and see if I continue with the pregnancy or self-abort..the strange thing is that I didn't really have any big pregnancy symptoms other than being late and feeling a little extra hungry than normal. I took the home pregnancy test because of things I was hearing about the IUD and my sixth sense. Did your dr. have you do a blood test to confirm that you are not pregnant? You may want to have the blood test done before you take out the IUD...also you may want to have the dr. do an ultrasound if you are pregnant to confirm that it is not a tubal pregnancy. I go in on Wed morning for another ultrasound and I have had another set of blood tests -- they didn't see the heartbeat last week when I was 6 wks..but this wed. I'll be 7wks and 2day so they should see something..my doctor is viewing it as a viability issue so we are anxiously awaiting..in the meantime it has been an emotional rollercoaster for my husband and I - we are looking forward to having some resolve to this. Best of luck to you and let us know what happens with the dr.

My friend got pregnant with an IUD. They couldn't take it out. Her daughter was just fine, but was born with a faint "T"-shaped impression on her forehead! The IUD came out with the placenta. By the way, the "T"-shape was gone by the time her daughter was a week old.

Hello everyone, I just got the Mirena inserted on March 30th. I spotted for the rest of that period and then had a lot of breakthrough bleeding the following month. I then got my period, which was very very heavy for about 10 days. I have had no more bleeding since. My period is due today, the 24th and I have absolutely no signs of my period. I have a 4 month old and am b___stfeeding. I am back to work so I am pumping all day. Recently I have been having a lot of trouble getting even 2 oz a session. Have any of you had this problem? I am getting nervous and am wondering if I should get rid of the IUD.

Mary- I would say since you are b___st feeding thats what is causing your no period. Many people who brestfeed don't get their period back for months sometimes a year. I hope this helps :) and Excelent choice on deciding to b___stfeed :)

My period has started on a regular basis since I had my daughter in January. Does it sometimes stop mid way through because you are b___stfeeding?

I have had the Minera IUD for almost 5 years now and I have always had my period every month until noe. I should have started on the 14 or 15 and it is now the 24 I toohpt it was negative, I have a blood test tomorrow. If I am not preg. I don't understand how my periods would be regular for 5 years then just stop. I too am concerned with the number of women getting preg. with an IUD I was convinced it was foolproof.
