IUD Pregnancy

Wow! I am so glad I came across this post! I am 8 months pregnant with my second child and I was seriously thinking of using the IUD (it is what my doctor suggested) but there is no way I will be using it now! It seemed like a pretty good idea, because I was going to do the 10 yr. one and I would not have to ever worry about taking birth control or getting pregnant for 10 yrs. (I thought) I guess I was wrong! There is no way I will be using this now, I can not imagine getting pregnant again when you think you have 'taken care' of that problem! Good luck to all you girls!

I just got my annual pap test done by my family doctor because my gyne wasn't available to see me until March. My family doc told me that he couldn't see the string of my iud so he order me to got to get an x-ray to see if they could tell where it is, but from what I've read most doc use a sonogram to tell where it is and I think it's because the mirena is mostly plastic. My family doc did says that if they can't detect it on an x-ray he would call my gyne to set up an appt to go see her. My problem is that I don't want to do an x-ray if there is a possibility that it's not going to show up. I don't want to pay for an x-ray and another procedure if I don't want to. Have anyone else had to get the iud checked to see where it was and what method did they use?

ahsiya7- I had an ultrasound and you could see my Mirena and see exactly where it was in my uterus

Thanks jdd for your reply. When they found out where it was, was it in place? I ask because the nurse for my gyne called me this morning to tell me that i could get an ultrasound to see where it was, but she stated that the my gyne feels that it's not necessary. That got me worried. I don't want to get into a situation where it's not in place and it gets stuck somewhere that it's not supposed to be. So I told her to schedule me in anyway, but because she is a doc I want to take her advise and not worry about it, but I'm not sure if that is the correct thing to do. I used to really love my doc, but I feel like she's b__wing me off. Another example of her doing this is from June to October I was having this crazy discharge and again the doc wouldn't talk to me, I only spoke with her nurse. Well the nurse kept treating me for a yeast infection. I was treated 4 different times with two different medications for a yeast infection and when I went to my family doc he tested me and i had bacteria vaginosis. So in essence I paid close to $60.00 for treatment that I didn't need at all. I was so disappointed in my gyne for not taking me seriously. I'm getting frustrated. I don't really want to get a new gyne, but I think that at this point I have no choice.

It does seem alot like for some reason the subject of the Merina or any of the IUD's for that matter is not one that Ob/Gyn's like to discuss. I have noticed that alot of these women, including myself, are not really getting taken too seriously when it comes to the IUD. I don't get why.

I too have just found out that I am pregnant and the IUD would not come out, the string kept breaking off. I have only had the IUD for 2 1/2 months. The doctor does not know what to do yet. I know that I need a second opinion. I would never recommend the IUD to anyone.

Lori, I have been through this twice with the mirena IUD. I misscarried after 15 weeks. I see there are a lot of women with the same problem. I am glad I am not alone. My husband is away and I am misscarring right now... it hurts, but better now then later...good luck, I will be thinking about you...

I am 29 yo with two kids (6&7). I feel as though I am losing my mind as I am awaiting my doctor's appt. I had had the copper IUD for five years with no problems. Every month I have gotten my period like clock work. This month I am two weeks late, my nipples are sore, I am bloated, nauseated without vomiting and my back is killing me. I thought I was getting my period this morning; however, it was only a little tinge of blood. Nothing more came out. Two hpt's were negative. I will feel really stupid when I go to the doctor and they tell me that I am not pregnant. I keep beating myself up wondering if these symptoms are all a figment of my imagination. Has this happened to anyone? What else could this be?

ahsiyat7- Sorry for the delay. My Mirena was right where it was supposed to be when we saw it on the ultrasound. The only reason that I had an us performed was because I had a positive hpt. You will have to trust your gut about the u/s, for peace of mind. I will tell you that OB's really push the IUD now and lure women into a false sense of security.

Ok now I am soo confused, for the past month I have felt like I am prego, and everyone keeps telling me o no that can't happen well I guess it can. I am 22 have 2 kids a 5 year old and a 8 moth old I had my iud put in at my 6 week visit that was in april, for the past 2 months there has been NO period. I am on the Mirena IUD also. What all should I watch out for? I had some light cramping a month or so ago. Any advice would be great! TIA, you can email me at EMBSMG@AOL.COM

Well... the nipples have been UNtouchable (sore) for a week, I can't even remember my last period (2mos or less ago), headaches, hungry, some nausea... heh, seemed like every pregnancy I ever had... even WITH the Mirena, (which i LOVE btw & have had for 4 yrs.- i don't expect ANYTHING to be 100%) i felt something isn't quite right. Found this site, read it, bought a preg. test, NEGATIVE... I'll test again in a few days & keep you all posted. I AM seeing a LOT of false negatives related to this... would IUD pregnancy contribute to this? If so, HOW? (i've never had a false positive, even in VERY early pregnancy, so it would be unusual for me)

Phoenix - November 11

Der.... make that false negative, i've never had a false negative... SEE? I have even lost my mind, just LIKE pregnancy! lol
