Update....I could not wait a week or 2 to take another test, and this one came out positive. So I guess I am pg now! I am so scared. I hope everything is okay now because I had the IUD taken out almost a month ago, and I've been on the nuva ring. HELP!!!!! lol! I am going to call my ob in the morning! Does anyone think that there might be an error in the ob insertng these things as to why we get pg?

I hope all of your situations are going well. I got the Paragaurd IUD spring of 2005, and am expecting a baby girl any day now. I am really confused as to what went wrong with the IUD, but more curious if it is really 99% effective. I believe that these companies have to test responsibly, so their statistics must be accurate, but am wondering if there is an x factor that may make the IUD ineffective for some women...If not, I would really like to get another...I had no side effects (except pregnancy : ) with the first, and cannot use hormonal birth control because of the type of Breast cancer that runs in my family. That leaves either condoms or IUD, and 99% is way more appealing than 85% or worse. Any ideas or input?

if u r worried about your iud go to the doctor and check to make sure it is still in place.... I had a baby with an iud 2 years ago. The iud did not come out with the placenta and it is now logded in the wall of my uterus forever. Like shrapnel. So if you are in doubt for sure have it checked.

Congratulation Gemma!!!!I'm very happy for you and your little Girl! My sister's Son was also born in the 33th week, now he is a 5 Months old big and super healthy baby!! I'm "still" pregnant :-), in the 33th week and everything looks good so far.I hope my IUD will come out with the placenta together...I felt so sorry for you Jeanna! Are you sure there is nothing to do? God bless you all!

thanks jeanna, i've been trying ot make appointments to go but my husbands telling me not to make it with the same people who put it in because if somethings wrong they'll try to cover it up, when you got pregnant did your hpt come right out to pos.? Because mine says neg. but i still feel all the symptoms it's just strange i still have'nt gotten a period with my first son i had a retain placenta and then a d&c 2 weeks after he was born had still ened up having a period and no cramping im scared of whats going on

Jeanna - April 30

you are all very kind. After my son was born, I had lots of tests ran. A couple of months later I had both a hysteroscopy and a laparoscopy. (meaning they looked at my uterus from the inside and the outside) In either search the IUD was not visible, so the only way to get it out is to cut the uterus open and risk a possible emergency hysterectomy. So I choose to just take my chances and wait it out. I am okay with everything though, because obviously my son is supposed to be here at this time, despite what I thought then.

sariah - April 30

tessamcgrue, those are basically the same symptoms i've been having thats strange huh? i just actually ahd a baby on christmas then a month later i had the iud put in but still have not had a period and i was told you had to have 1 period before putting it in i bled everyday but only for an hour and maybe four times a day but i stillhave cramping horribly and now i have only blend once today and maybe for 20 min. i did take a hpt and it said no but i still don't know because i never had a period inthe first place so i'm really confused.

tessamcgrue - May 1

yeah, my symptoms just keep persisting too, but I took another hpt, just for good measure, they are supposed to show a trace of pregnancy hormone right after you miss your period, so how could it be possible that I am preg? I mean, I'm already considerably late, and to have all the symptoms I have, in theory my hormone level would have to be elivated enough to detect as well. I'm so confused, I really feel pregnant, and I'm convinced this can not all be in my head. I made an appt for next week with a different obgyn, incase there is something else wrong with the iud that the clinician at pp is trying to cover up. I wonder maybe if there are symptoms like this that occur from other iud complications that mock pregnancy, but why now I wonder, I've had this thing for about a year already.I'm totally confused.

I am so glad I found this site. I got the merina in May of 05 and have had little problems. I have told everybody how great it is. I have had regular periods until now. I am 4 days late and very upset. I am always on time and I had the cramps that come with the period just no period. I took an at home test but it was negative but it sound to me from all that I have read on here that that might not matter. I have an appontment to see the doctor on the 4th so I hope to get some answers. tessamcgrue I would be greatfull if you would let me know if you get a blood test done and what the results are. thanks

sariah - May 1

i think its a mess waht were all going through this so everyone who has had the iud had a period after because i haven't but now i feel all the symptoms is you r partner suppose to feel the strings of the iud?

tessamcgrue - May 2

hey guys, I got my blood test today, I will take another one in 48 hours and then will get my results at my dr. appt on wed., they will be able to see if my hcg hormone is elevated and then compare the two tests to see if they continue to rise, indicating a strong pregnancy or if they are going down, indicating the likelyhood of miscarriage. At this point, I don't even know if I'm pregnant, I just want a deffinative answer, I hate being in limbo like this. I almost fainted at the gym today, I felt so nausious I had to stop doing my cardio because I felt like I was going to vomitt. Sariah, my husband usually says he can feel something from the strings, they're a little rough and pokey he says. Do you have the paragard or mirena? Angie, how long have you had the mirena, with this one it is a little more commen for your period to dissipate, even eventually stop all together in many cases, so this may be the reason your period ended, I would still get a blood test or check with a doc ito be sure, and put your mind at ease. I have the paragard, this one is supposed to make it heavier if anything. I'm starting to become very weary of the whole IUD thing, I choose it because I am so sensative to hormonal birth control and sooo fertile! It was supposed to be very dependeable. I first got the Mirena a few years back but with in 48 hours of the insertion, got violently ill, diareah, vomitting, fever, every 5-10 minutes, I became so dehydrated, I went to the E.R (Kaiser at the time) they swore I just had a gastrio intestinal infection (the flu) and sent me home, I ended up fainting in the bathroom on the way out, finally they put me on IV and after much debate, I demanded they remove the iud, they were very hesitant. This experience left a very sour taste in my mouth. It could be coincidental that I did get a flu at the same time as Mirena, but I have never had a flu that felt like that, finally 2 pregnancies (on other birth control) later, I decided to give IUD's another shot, this time I tried the paragard, I loved it, until now. I have had no complications, it's hormone free so no hormonal side effects, I thought it was the best invention. After my experience and reading all these messages, I'm not so sure!

this morning I started to very lightly bleed. It is light enough to were just a panty liner and is pink and not red so tessamcgrue hopfuly you are right . But I will still go see the ob on thur. if I don't start to bleed like I normaly do just to be sure. I want ot thank all of you for the sharing all of your experiances with IUD's I will never agien tell anyone how great mine is I will tell them what I have learned on here and tell them to look into another kind of birth control. Sariah my husband used to feel the strings all the time and would some times have a sore on his thing from the strings and that is after my ob cut the strings to make sure he woulden't feel them so I wonder if they aren't suppost to feel them. My husband can't feel the strings anymore and nether can I another reason I want to see my ob. I have a question has anyone else had there b___st leek after having the merina? I gave my little one a hug this morning and leek on my under shirt. I think that the merina totally messes up our bodys making us feel pregnent and we just don't think anything of it until we are late and think we might be pregnent.
