IUD Pregnancy

Hi! I am a 24 yr old single mother of 2 going through a divorce. My daughter's father (who lives in Maine) and I recently got back together. (My son's father whom I am getting the divorce from is in jail.) I got the Mirena IUD put in last summer. My doctor told me that it was 99.9% effective and that it was the best option for me since I couldnt get my tubes tied. I have been getting my period every 2 weeks for 2 weeks at a time (very light) since I got it put in. Now, I have not had it in 7 weeks! (that just happens to be the last time I saw my boyfriend.) I am freaking out! I have 2 kids already and he has our daughter here in CT and 2 other kids in Maine (1 due to be born next month) and I cannot afford another child, much less raise 3 kids myself! I talked to my doctor today and they told me that it isnt any concern since I have the IUD, and I took a home test (came up negative...but with very faint lines). But after reading all of the postings on here, I am still very worried! Has anyone else just stopped getting their period after a year? Is it normal? My doctor told me that at some point in the first 6 months my period might stop, but its been a year! I thought it would be great to not have my period when I first got the IUD put in, but now it's worrying me! I want to get it out, but my doctor doesnt think it's a good idea and they dont want to see me for at least another week. I want it out! Especially since I just read on another site that it can cause excema (I got excema/psoriasis right after stopping the birth control pill and switching to the IUD) and increased acne (which I already had a problem with). Has anyone else gotten psoriasis or excema from this? And any advice on the pregnancy thing? Should I wait and take another test? Any advice is more than welcome! Thanks!

Hi Lori!, I think I am in the same situation. The reason I said so, is because I was searching answers for unusual sign of pregnancy while on the IUD. I came upon this site. Anyway, the past month my cycle has been strange, it came earlier than expected and i've been having signs that I am pregnant, but when I took a hpct it was negative. So, this cycle I am experiencing the same symtoms but more. For instance, my b___st tingle, my mouth get dry, I feel hotter that usual, I get light headaches, feeling light cramps, nausea, and I feel movement in my stomach. Last night when I went to the rest room , I saw a spot in my panties and now I feel dry. My period does not come until next week. I am so confuse in what to do. I waiting to see if my period come before I do anu PC or call my doctor. Can any one help me or anyone having the same symptoms? And if someone is pregnant with the IUD, what are the signs? Thank you!

HI I have the paragurad IUD in place and have almost every pregnancy symptom. I have had a period recently (lighter than normanl) and tested negative on two hpt's and a blood test. Could I still be pregnant? I am also nursing my 10 month old. Should I make an appt. to see the OB still or do I trust the tests?

Hi ladies. Advice for all the recent visitors. I live by the motto...When in doubt check it out. If any of you think you might be pregnant why wait to have something negative happen and stresses you don't need. In most cities there are even free clinics if money is an issue. Be realistic about what you are experiencing too. Also I think you should go to the actual website of the IUD that you have. They can answer a lot of your questions there. (Like what it is supposed make you feel like, how it stops pregnancy, etc.) Don't be scared ladies, just take the appropriate steps to find out what's going on. Hope this helps a little. Y'all have a good day.

well I got mine just 6mths ago.. I have been feeling dizzy and I have also noticed like if my b___st are getting bigger...I have been getting cramps. I have read here that some have missed periods but in mycase the last time I got my period was the month after I got it inserted. After that I have only been spoting. Is there anyone out there having the same problem....

hi again! i had my iud removed last week on tuesday. turns out the iud string was twisted around it and it was totally out of place and starting to become embedded in my uterus wall. took 45 minutes to get it out. I am currently bleeding, however, i was told i may bleed due to the iud being removed. i still feel nauseous, my stomach is harder, i have gained a few pounds, my b___sts seem larger (i only notice because my bras feel tighter), im tired way more than normal....is it possible to be pregnant and still bleed slightly? could it be my period? or a miscarriage? (it was really heavy for a few hours after the iud was removed) or could i really be pregnant? i am so confused! somebody please help!

I had my Mirena for 5 weeks and removed it becoz of steady weight gain. I had abdominal pain and gained 5 pounds in a month. It is almost a month since I removed the Mirena and I have lost 4 pounds. I surely do not know if the weight gain was becoz of mirena as the nurse was very sure it was not becoz of Mirena but she was not able to give a logical answer though. So mirena may be great for some and not for the others. So for ladies gaining weight steadily MAY be due to Mirena instead of pregnancy. But I may not be 100% right!

Hi, I have had the mirena IUD for almost 2 years now, I haven't had any problems until now. I had my last period on 5/27/2007, lasted for about 5 days which is normal for me. I have never had heavy periods with mirena either. I haven't had a period since 5/27, didn't really think anything about it until I started getting heartburn ALL the time, then I started feeling nausea. And even still I was like "NO" I can't be pregnant, I have an IUD! Then my husband started getting sick to his stomach for no apparent reason, the only other time that has happend was when I was pregnant!!! So I decided to get a HPT, well I got three of them, the first one was negative, the second one was questionable, and the third one I took this morning when I got up, and it came out positive but the plus sign was really light, the directions says I'm PREGNANT!!! I really do not know what to do! I have a 3 year old and a 2 year old!!!! Should I wait and take another test or should I see a doctor????? Scared and confused. Does anyone have any advice???? Thanks! Jessica

OMG! This is quite serious. I've had Mirena in since October 06, and it's been effective, but in the last week I've been so fatiqued, lazy and ga__sy in the mornings that I've been thinking about being pregnant. My mother's having her baby dreams, and I keep saying it's bologna because I'm on the IUD. Well after all I've read here today, I'm gonna take a couple of tests to put my mind at some kind of ease. Between this and my 3 year old I feel like I'm going loony.

Wow - I can't believe there are so many of us going through this! I'm 27 yo with two little ones (5 and 2 yrs old) and had the paraguard inserted in 10/05. I was supposed to start my period on 7/1/07, but it did not come and I took a hpt on 7/4/07, which was positive. My husband and I were very surprised to say the least. I saw my obgyn this past Fri - a sonogram was done, which showed an embryo sac in the uterus but could not definitively find the paraguard. The doctor "thinks" it is below my uterus, but since my endometriosis (?) was so bright, they couldn't absolutely distinguish if it was my paraguard or not. I have another appt scheduled in 2 wks to see if they can find the iud or not. If so, I really would like it removed to decrease the complications further along in the pregnancy, even though it may cause a miscarriage. I couldn't imagine that the iud would have fallen out with me not noticing, but then again, I didn't think I'd get pregnant either...

I am now 23 weeks pregnant and I still have my IUD in. The last time I wrote was when I was incredibly shocked to find out I was 9 weeks pregnant. (But if I had done more research ahead of time I shouldn't have been so shocked and wouldn't have put my trust in the Mirena because it seems it isn't as reliable as it claims to be). I have 4 children - all 4 and under (the twins just turned 1 a couple of weeks ago). My due date is November 4. I will have 5 children - 4 and under. In the last few months I have adjusted to being pregnant again. I enjoy being a mother but at times being pregnant with 4 little ones gets tiring. I just hope now for the best for the 5th one. I have had 4 ultrasounds so far. The three ultrasounds done in my hometown were unable to see the IUD. But the ultrasound done near the Mayo clinic at Maternal Health Medicine was able to see it stuck in my cervix. The doctor in my hometown tried to get the IUD out at 9 weeks pregnant. It hurt a lot and the strings popped off. I wasn't going to go and see a specialist but I made a very good choice and it was reasuring to find the IUD stuck in my cervix and not in a worse place like somewhere in the baby's body, or between the bag of waters and the uterus. So the IUD shouldn't cause any problems with the baby and it probably won't pop the bag of waters. The specialist still said my chance of infection (which would cause fever and my uterus to start contracting and to lose the baby) is still 50%. The specialist tried to get the IUD out with some kind of tool but was unsuccessful. So here I am, 23 weeks pregnant and going strong. I am not going to depend on an IUD anymore (I will probably get my tubes tied instead). I am sure glad I went to see the specialist because before I went I was always worried when the IUD was going to break my waters. I am just doing my best to stay healthy and try to avoid getting an infection (chorion amnionitis) and I am praying I carry this baby full term.

WOW... I don't even know what to say... wow! I found this board because I had the copperT put in in Jan 06 a few months after delivering twin girls. Lately, I've been feeling fatigued with sore b___sts but I have yet to take a test... You may find this funny... I don't keep track of my periods. My husband does and he told me I'm late and should have started my period already this month. I figured he miscounted the days because I have this wonder-device called the IUD but I will get checked out. My twins are 9 months old now so I can't imagine having another one (or two) while having two toddlers but if I found out I were pregnant then I would want to keep it (and hopefully it would be a boy this time so I can call it quits) I checked for the strings and they have become so short that I can barely feel them... in fact I'm not sure what exactly I am feeling at all. I have to press the finger into the mouth of the cervix just to feel anything at all. But I'm not too alarmed about this because after getting it initially, it moved around for the first month, always feeling different. My Dr told me NOT to worry if I couldn't feel it... yikes... I think the best thing to do it go with my instinct. Apparently I should have started menstruating on or about the 18... which would make me 6 days late but I did lose 10 pounds this month which could be a reason to be late or miss. Anyway, I am 23 and the twins are my only children. Feel free to reply
