Hi Ms. Monet, I don't know the full details, but my friend used the IVF method... Good luck to you! I've also know someone who got pregnant the month before starting fertility treatment... you just never know... spring is right around the corner... the season of fertility and life! I am definately saying a special prayer for you. I am doing good... feeling much, much better and enjoying my last week of recovery before returning to work. I am looking forward to getting my period and then trying to get pregnant. It is exciting, but also scary... the unknown of it all. My friends are all having babies left and right... it would be nice to join them in that process!

Hi Joker - Good luck on your procedure - you had asked about any suggestions about how to stay busy - I have been home for four weeks and am not good at sitting still. Friends brought care packages, and the item that pa__sed the most time was DVDs from a show on television called "Nip/Tuck". If you can find a tv show that you had always wanted to watch, but didn't have time, I would suggest getting those. I have read lots of books and learned to crochet. My sister bought some home organization books for me so that kept me interested, too. Make sure, first and foremost, to listen to your body and rest. Beware that you will feel constipated for a few days (at least I did) and that added to the discomfort. Good luck to you. Julianne - I think we are in the same phase in our journeys, as we are supposed to start shots and IUI in March (if my cycle begins). My doctor wanted us to go right on the fertility drugs/IUI route because of my age (34), issues with scar tissues from previous surgeries, and my FSH level (17). I am nervous about getting my hopes up for a baby and not having that dream come true for us. I have gotten almost conditioned to a negative on a pregnancy test that I feel defeated already. Good luck to you both!

Hi Teach, Thanks for your post. It is so helpful to hear from other women in similar situations. I had my myo on 1/29 ... one week after yours, right? Were you on Lupron prior to your surgery to help shrink the fibroid? I was for three months and my doctor says it takes a few months before the med is out of your body and for your period to return. Once my period returns, she is giving me 6 months to try to get pregnant before discussing fertility treatment. It is all a bit overwhelming, but I am trying to stay calm and positive. How are you feeling physically these days after your myo? Do you feel back to normal? My energy level is still low. I am looking forward to being able to exercise again... I don't know when that will be. Good luck to you on your fertility treatments! Hopefully one of us will have some good news to post in the next few months :)

Hi Julianne - Yes, my myo was on 1/22. I was not on Lupron, because it wasn't necessary the size of my fibroids but their location. They were the size of golfb___s and had 'burrowed' (for lack of a better word) into my uterine wall so were preventing implantation and could have caused miscarriage. I am feeling at about 75% now after my myo, and was given the go ahead to exercise again (only biking and using the elliptical) and I think that has made a tremendous difference. So you have about six months of getting pregnant the natural way before fertility? I hope all comes together for you. I think that we will have to skip March's fertility treatment because my husband will be out of town for work almost the whole month. We thought it would be a good idea for him to push his work trips back while I was recovering, but in hindsight, I will "need" him more when I ovulate than I did when I was recovering! I am going to try to get some days off when I am ovulating to fly out and see him in San Diego - that might do the trick!? How are you feeling? Are you able to get up and move around the house? Drive? When do you return to work?

Juliane - February 20

Hi Teach, I had one large fibroid that was distorting my uterus... my doctor told me not to even try to get pregnant before having it removed because of risk of miscarriage. She also said that the fibroid would also interfere with implantation. I am hoping now that there won't be any complications... but I am also 37, so my biological clock is ticking loud! I am up and around and feeling good after my myo. I live in NYC, so don't drive much, but am out walking around/commuting quite a bit. I mostly feel tired easily. I return to work next Monday (I took 4 weeks off for recovery). My job is not physically demanding, so I should be OK. When do you go back to work? Do you feel ready?

Hey guys, I spoke with my doctor and he scheduled me for an HSG. I will be getting it done in March a few days after my period which should be around the 14th. Some people said it hurts... I hope not. So, I have one more month to try on my own...

Hi Joker! Go for it if you have not done so! You will feel better in a lot of way! I am telling for my own experience... I just had a myo last month 2/17. Like you I was not scared of death but to wake up and be told that they had to remove my whole uterus... I am 32 no kids yet!!! My fibroids story started last year about this time Feb. Mar. 06 I felt something like a rock in my lower abdomen. I went to my PCP and he suspected fibroids. I then took an abdomen CT scan which found 3 different fibroids 6, 5 and 3 cm. I then saw my Ob/Gyn and with ultrasound he was able to locate the fibroids. I did not really want surgery after hearing all about it. Although in some cases when a woman gets pregnant they tend to shrink, there are risks of miscarrying my Ob/Gyn said. He explain that myo will probably be the best option for me but decided to wait for another 6 month just to see if anything will change. My next app. was in Jan 07. The ultrasound found 5 big fibroids the biggest was 11cm. He couldn’t see my uterus tissues and he advised me that there are definitely more than 5. (All this time I never had any of the symptoms except a big belly and frequent trips to the bathroom after I drink something). 2/17 I had my surgery. It was a successful one to my surprise! 21 fibroids were removed one was in my fallopian tube which has left me with just one Fal. Tube. I took 1 month off work and I feel great now. My energy has come back and my bikini scar is not visible. First be positive and I hope you have a very good Ob/Gyn like I did. Now I am eager to get pregnant. I was told to wait at least 3 months. If there is anyone there who conceived after myomectomy can you tell me how long you waited? How about getting pregnant with one fallopian tube? Please share...

my myomectomy was 1/17 not 2/17...

Hi Suzy, see Bridget's post on Feb 6th. She got pregnant after her 1st cycle after MYO...she didn't even have to wait 3 months and she has a little baby boy now.

Hi Suzy.... I can't believe how many fibroids you had inside of you! I'm so glad your surgery went really well - it is really encouraging. I only have one really big subserosal fibroid (24 week pregnancy sized apparently) which merges with my uterus so I'm worried about my surgeon separating it okay and keeping my uterine walls in tact. I am also worried about him having to take out my entire uterus. I am just so scared of wakening up after the operation when I will be drugged up already and having to deal with whatever he has to tell me about how the surgery went. I'm 28 and was really hoping to start a family this year. As the Zoladex (Lupron) treatment didn't shrink my fibroid I'm thinking I will get booked in for surgery regardless of the current size. I know surgery is inevitable and it is better to get it out of the way so you can move on, but at the same time I am petrified of the pain - I can't even have an injection without nearly pa__sing out. Don't you find that some days you are more positive than others - one day you think oh there are so many worse things I could have to deal with then other days you just feel 'why me?'. Anyway, I'll post again when I've seen my gyaeno on 27th Feb to let you know what the next plan is. I wonder how Moon is getting on with her operation as she must still be in the hospital right now. Hope all has gone well and she's just sleeping it off recovering. Take Care and have a good weekend all! Jacky

hey everybody! just wanted to let you know that i'm back home only two days after my myo! my doc removed 5 fibroids stretching into the cavity of my uterus and said that the surgery went really well. Although she did leave two tiny (3mm) fibroids inside... i feel amazingly good, maybe a bit tired. my belly only hurts when i move or want to get up. but I don't need any pain medication and was discharged from the hospital. Also, the scar looks nice and clean (8 stiches). i'm really happy it all went so well an am now recovering in my own bed, while hubby is cooking a light dinner :-) So, to be honest: the scariest part for me were the two hours when i was prepaired for the surgery. I kept wondering whether i had made the right decision ;-) today, i would say yes! i wish you all good luck whether you have to go back to work soon, are trying to become pregnant or are planing one the myomectomy. Stay strong!

Jacky: it sounds like one of the key factors that seem to alleviate the kind of anxiety you are facing is the feeling that you have an experienced and competent doctor "to take care of business", customed to your pre-agreed needs. Prior to my surgery, I had to contemplate for years the pain issue (I am no lover of anything that stabs or stings!), quality of doctor, and finally the outcome. I wasn't prepared physically or emotionally to deal with anything other than emerging intact (uterus and all in place) when I awoke. Whilst pondering over these concerns, procastination set in ........ until I reached a certain point where going forward was the only option. Determination then gave way to tapping into my faith and entrusting the whole procedure into the hands of my Maker. Like medicine, it became, and was indeed a big relief before and after ....... reminiscing of the very gospel verse "Cast Your Burden Upon The Lord, And He Will Give You Rest". I found out, practically. So, do your part by way of a proper homework on who you choose for a surgeon .............. and then exhale in Him.

Ms. Monet, what is an HSG?? Moon, Congrats on having a successfull surgery and being home! Isn't it a great feeling to have it over and behind you? I hope your recovery goes uneventful and smooth.

MsMonet - February 22

Welcome back, Moon! Julianne- see below info on the HSG. What is a hysterosalpingogram (HSG): The HSG is a basic fertility test to determine if there is any blockages in your fallopian tubes. It can also be used to determine if there are any adhesions, fibroids or other complications or abnormalities in your uterus. How is it done: This procedure is done in the radiology office at your local hospital or surgery center. A contrast dye is injected into the uterus, through the cervix, while x-rays are taken of the area. You will lay on your back on the x-ray table, while the doctor inserts a speculum into your uterus. S/he then feeds a small catheter through your cervix to deliver the contrast dye. The x-rays are then taken. You may be asked to a__sume different positions depending on your anatomy as some positions will help your pract_tioner see your anatomy. The whole procedure takes just a few minutes. Afterwards: There is a slightly increased pregnancy rate after an HSG. This is theorized to be from the flushing effects of the procedure removing any residue in the uterus or Fallopian tubes. You may experience some cramping after the procedure, but most women will do fine taking ibuprofen for pain. Talk to your pract_tioner if you are concerned about post-procedural pain. Results: The results are potentially available within a few minutes. If you wish, you can have your pract_tioner there to read the results nearly immediately. However, many practices don't read HSGs immediately. Ask your doctor what s/he does in their practice. Depending on the results of the exam, further infertility tests may be ordered or you may have diagnosis and begin treatment immediately.

Ms. Monet, Are you working with a different doctor for the fertility test? Didn't you have your myo by Dr. Bartisch? I know he is the #1 fibroid doctor. Is anyone able to give you any concrete info about conceiving? Take Care, Juliane

MsMonet - February 23

Dr Bartsich is going to refer me to a fertility doctor in March.... I called just to check out some other NY Cornell doctors and so far most of them are out of network.... Ugghhh! Gotta find a in network doctor... Too expensive... Dr Bartsich wants me too hurry because I am 35 and he doesn't want the fibroids too return or scar tissue... When I get the HSG...I believe I will know if anything is wrong... Dr Bartsich did leave a fibroid in that had grown on top of my uterus. They shaved it down... That was the one that was acting as birth control. I pray that it didn't grow. I won't know anything until around the 3rd wk of March. Pray for me!
