Progesterone Dropping

Janet- level 13 progesterone at 5 weeks is not bad. Mine was 19 at 8 weeks with supplements and I have a healthy pregnancy. Also, at 6.5 weeks pregnant a 125 bpm isn't bad either. The heart only starts at the earliest at 5 weeks 6 days as a flicker... So, not bad at all! Mine was 166bpm at my 7.5 week visit... I'm sure yours went up in 2 weeks also. Anyhow, I felt little flicker movements since about 9 week and more at 11 weeks. Just not getting more pronounced kicks. But, you shouldn't really feel anything until about 16 to 18 weeks. Nothing before that is not abnormal at all. It also depends on your body style, etc. A lady I work with never once felt her son move or anything at all her whole pregnancy. But, she has a healthy child now. So, that was weird. She isn't big at all either. SO, not every pregnancy is the same. To find a heartbeat at 6.5 weeks is a real good sign. Plus, you haven't had any bleeding right?? I bet you will allow yourself to get closer with baby after your next visit. You can also request a scan regardless of them finding it on doppler or not. I have my next scan on Dec. 2nd to find out if its a boy or girl. I will be 17 weeks then. I am so excited!! :) I am sure your is fine also. Your just about going into your second trimester, so it will be in the next few weeks that you may start to feel something. But around 16 to 18 and almost for sure by 20 weeks you will. 11 may just be too early. Give it time. I have faith that everything is OK!! oh also, I just started to pouch out in the last week. I still fit in my normal clothes now with no problem but no one can even tell I am pregnant and I am 5 weeks further than you. Are you starting to get a little bump at all??

So glad to find this board! My doctor just recommended getting on Prometrium after I just lost my third baby at 9 weeks. I had a D&C and I was just wondering if anyone else here had one and how long it took for them to begin ovulating after they did. I'm also still spotting (16 days after the surgery). Does this sometimes occur? Thanks so much everyone! God bless you for having a place where people don't feel like freaks for taking a hormone to help keep their babies. I'm excited about ttcing again soon!

Hello Everyone. Betty, my Dr. told me that levels can fluctuate, but he is definitely an advocate for supplements, and I think in your case he would put you on supplements, although 22 is still a good number. I actually have a question also. I have two healthy children who I had no problems with conceiving or maintaining without suppliments. I then I had a partial molar pregnancy (16 weeks), then a mis-carriage at 7 weeks. I am pregnant again, but the Dr. put me on Cronine 8% because my level was 13. They tested me 3 days after I started it and it is now 21. Should I stop the cronine? Can I have low progesterone for this one and not the others? I don't feel pregnant at all and I worry that I may be prolonging the inevitable.

Niki- What was your HCG at when you had your D&C? I ovulated (and got pregnant) exactly 5 weeks/35 days after my D&C. If I didn't get pregnant, my first AF would have been exactly 7 weeks/49 days after. Just so you have an idea. My HCG was about 10,000 the day of my surgery. I had slight bleeding after it stopped also, because my hubby and I had s_x. So, I think it kinda aggravated it. But, then it went away. That was about 2 weeks after the surgery and we were away from each other and didn't have s_x until the 5 week in which I got pregnant. Cherie- it sounds to me like you don't have a progesterone problem... although, you can develop it later in age. My sister didn't have it with her first and she couldn't get pregnant for her second for like 6 years... finally she went on progesterone supplements and it saved her pregnancy. Your levels may have gone up on their own without the supplements... but, now that you are on them.. it would be critical to stop because then you may force an abortion by dropping the hormones like that. You can stop at 12 weeks with no problems at all. BUt, I will say this.. if your progesterone is up to 21 now, it sounds like a viable good pregnancy. Your progesterone doesn't increase from your blood serum with the crinone but that is inserted v____ally, not orally so it goes straight to your uterus. It may go up slightly, but not that much. So, it sounds like your is doing good. Unless your HCG isn't doubling.. then you shouldn't worry at all. Also, 3 days after taking crinone would not increase it that much at all. So, it had to of done it on its own. Also, your levels change throughout the day. Did you get it tested the exact same time you did 3 days before hand? Oh, how far are you now?? ALso, congrats!! Try to relax (hey, I know.. easier said than done) :-)

Daniella, Thank you very much for the info. I don't know what my HCG was. I'm not even sure what that is exactly. I just took a bunch of tests on Tuesday, so maybe that will tell me something. Anyhow glad to hear when you o'ed. I think mine may be coming up here as my basal temp is dropping down to normal fertile period levels. I'm so grateful for some change! Did anyone here have any problems with a baby conceived straight after a miscarriage? My now 10 month old daughter was a right-after-miscarriage baby and she's the only one I've gotten to "keep" out of my four babies. Just wondering if other had good results with this. Thanks!

Niki- when I ovulated for the first time 5 weeks after my miscarriage and got pregnant, that is my current pregnancy, which I am now 16 weeks. So, yes... you can have a wonderful healthy pregnancy right after a loss. You will blessed once your body is willing and ready. I actually think getting pregnant so soon after my last loss was the best I could ask for. I really think it helped because my body was already in pregnancy mode, if you know what I mean. Let us know what your results come back at niki. :) Also, I know its very hard to test ovulation right after a miscarriage for your hormones are still trying to get back to normal. I tested positive for ovulation about 2 weeks after my miscarriage, but I obviously didn't ovulate then, for I did at 5 weeks when I got pregnant. So, they say don't even waste trying to test until everything is back to normal. Good luck!!!

Mary - November 25

I am currently taking 400 MG of prometrium at night, due to two previouse miscarriages this year. I noticed that about 3 days after I started taking it (v____aly at night), at the same time every day I start to have spotting. It started out with just pink light spotting, but now some times (about 3 weeks later now) it's like I'm having my period for a few hours. It just comes and goes, mostly in the afternoon. Is it doing something it's not supposed to do? My beta levels are going up about 60% every 2 days, and my Dr says that while that is not great, going up some is better than not at all. I have also had two ultrasounds done, the first on was at 5 weeks 6 days according to my last period. It showed a gestational sac, but no fetal pole or yolk sac. Then, at about 6 weeks 5 days There was a gestational sac and a yolk sac, but still no visable fetal pole. My latest beta level was 31,400. What in the world is going on with my body?! HELP! Am I pregnant or what?

Daniella - November 25

Mary, obviously you are pregnant!!! :) Also, once your HCG hits 10,000 it my only double every 72 hours. In the very beginning your HCG doubles every 36 hours and then about once you hit 1000 or so, they double every 48 hours and then only 72 hours. Since your HCG is pretty high you shouldn't worry about your levels anymore unless they start going down. Keep taking the progesterone because it can't hurt and you never know. Also, it could be slight bleeding from the placenta which happens normally. Has your Dr. put you on baby aspirin?? If not, you might want to try that also for it could possibly help. What is your progesterone levels at?? Also, are you certain of your conception date?? If your not as far as you thought, you may not see anything for another week.. also, you could have had vanishing twin syndrome where you may have miscarried one but the other is OK... Just throwing out some options. Try the baby aspirin and try to keep rested. At least they seen a yolk sac, that is a good sign. When is your next ultrasound??

jude - November 25

I am taking progesterone pessaries. I feel sick all the time. I'm hoping it's morning sickness but fear it could be a die effect from the progesterone. Does progesterone have this side effect. I am six weeks.

Daniella - November 25

Jude- no way to know.. its pregnancy hormones that make you feel ill.. You may have morning sickness just from being pregnant. It sucks, but take it as a good sign. No symptoms is usually no good.

Niki - November 25

Thank you, Daniella. :) Glad to hear you have a healthy pregnancy after everything. Another silly question I had was will taking progesterone repress a period if you're not pregnant? I just was curious when I thought about what natural progesterone in the body does. I just don't want to think I'm pregnant if it's just the prometrium stopping the flow. Thanks!

Diane - November 25

Hello again Daniella, I haven't posted for a while but today I hit 3 months..I got to stop the injections 2 days ago, and last week my Dr. took me off the suppositories. My level on wed was 29. I have my next U.S at 14 weeks and am still considered at risk due to the bleeding I had early on in the pregnancy. I still don't know the heartrate but the Dr. says it looks normal. Last u.s I had on wed there was so much turbulance in the womb, the baby would not stop moving and jumping but it stayed still long enough to get a really good pic of the face..very cute. I am anxiously awaiting the first time I will get to feel it move..it is the strangest thing to see it moving so much but not be able to feel it.. I am very happy for you and still am very thankful for progesterone therapy..You take care of you and your little one...Godbless everyone Diane

tania - November 25

I was put on depro provera tablets at about 17 weeks, I also was on 1/2 tablet of asprin as well and from the start was on 2 metformin tablets up to about 20 weeks. I managed to not go onto insulin till 33 weeks and he was delivered in the end at 38weeks by emergency c section, absolutely perfect!! after 11 years and 2 m/c. he will be 2 this december 05.

Daniella - November 25

Niki- your hormone levels should be down to 0 to get pregnant. If you have them in your body thats almost the same as being on birth control and you can't get pregnant (for the most part)... so, if you want to get pregnant, don't take progesterone. Wait until you know you've conceived, then its OK. But, yes... it can make you NOT get pregnant. That is why most doctors tell you not to take progesterone until you either know you conceived. I took it 11 days after conception (the day I found out I was pregnant) and took it until 12 weeks. Everything was fine.

Daniella - November 27

Wow! I'm so glad I asked! My doctor told me to start taking it on CD 15 when I ovulate, so I wouldn't even know if I was pregnant. This is probably because I lost two of my babies very early on, about CD 32. I knew I was pregnant because my cycles are always 28 days and I tested to find a weak positive with them. That leads me to yet another question (sorry), but say I started taking it when I ovulated and then continue. If I'm not pregnant, I wouldn't know because I wouldn't menstrate? Is that right? Then once I found out I wasn't pregnant and stopped taking them, how long does it take to clear out of your system so that you can start ovulating again? Maybe I should ask a doc these questions, but in case you knew, I thought I would ask. :)
