ccreese...Im in the same boat, I had a miscarrage 6 months ago and am now 4 weeks pregnant. I was put on progestrone today with out any testing of my levels. She said it will be an extra precaution to help support the embryo. I guess if you were put on it too without any tests its normal...I was wondering the same thing.

I would be concerned if they aren't checking your levels. Request that. To Stephanie, I think at 10 you don't need to panic but I would be concerned that if it doesn't go up very soon I'd demand to be put on progestrone. I was put on with my levels at 15 (mine were dropping also). Keep me posted. I'm sure you are worried to death. Hang in there.

I just found this site and am so happy that I am not the only one dealing with the progesterone issue. I am 39 years old, had my first child at 20, another at 23, and a 3rd at 35 with no problems. Since then I have had two miscarriages around week 7 or 8. After the last MC, my mom told me that she had six MCs and had to take progesterone shots with each of the three kids she carried to full-term (yes, I am a product of progesterone). I am now 5 weeks pregnant and taking every precaution. I had numerous blood tests done after the last MC with no unusual results. I also had my progesterone and HGC levels checked as soon as I found out I was pregnant, and they were fine. Even so, I asked my Dr. about the progesterone and he put me on 200 mg 2x per day just as a precaution (and said if it puts my mind at ease, it's worth it). My doctor also said that it doesn't hurt to have progesterone supplements even if your levels are fine. We aren't doing any more testing at this time, and I'm just hanging in there until my first office visit on March 17th. The side effects do feel aweful, thought (nausau!!). One more thing for the older moms out there -- I read that the progesterone levels decrease in the 10 years prior to menopause, so that may be part of my problem at this stage of life.

Just to encourage older moms out there, I have had 6 pregnancies since I was 35 and 3 healthy babies. The last was born when I was almost 42! I am now pregnant with child #10 (pregnancy #13) at almost 45. I am 9 weeks and spotting so I asked my doctor about progesterone. I am a little upset that my doc didn't suggest checking it earlier. It was 11.9 (she said between 11 and 45 is normal) and then put me on suppositories. My spotting virtually stopped but then started a little today after 3 days on prog. My doc said I could double my dose and the spotting stopped. I am praying for a healthy baby. Ultrasound last week showed a perfectly healthy baby with a good heartbeat so my chances are good

Tammy - thanks for the encouragement! I have been worried that this is my last chance to have one more child since I am pushing 40. Did you take progesterone with any of your previous pregnancies?

I had low levels and was on clomid to conceive. Worried I have the same problem- I'm spotting at 5w, but no other m/c signs. I believe there is a supository progesterone that can be given to save the preg.

I used prog cream for preg #9 (misc at 15 weeks), preg #10 (healthy baby boy at age 39, preg #11 (healthy baby boy at age 41) I also used it between pregnancies to maintain hormonal health. It also keeps your eggs healthier so you have a better chance to not have any chromosomal abnormalities.

Tammy - great news. I don't go for a check up until March 17th when I will be 8 weeks. I am just trying to rest as much as possible between now and then.

I wrote the other day and said my doctor had prescribed prometrium 200 mg twice a day. I didn't mention the side effects are really getting me down. I'm groggy, slow, irritable, depressed....I say I become "Slug Girl" when on it. ;) Anyway, will be at 12 weeks in 2 days! Yay! Was wondering for some of you who are going through progesterone supplementation to support the pregnancy in the early stages, HOW LONG ARE YOU STAYING ON IT? And are you tapering off or just quitting all of a sudden? Any advice greatly appreciated. Cathy

I talked to my doc yesterday and she will keep me on prog for about 4 more weeks if I want it. I am almost 11 weeks now. I know some who have quit at 10 with no problem. The placenta should be producing enough prog at about 10-12 weeks. My spotting has virtually vanished. Doc checked heart tones Monday and they were still strong. I am only taking 50 mg twice a day. Maybe 200 is just too much for you.

I am also very scared. I will be 6 weeks pregnant on Monday. I went in this past Monday because of some pain and a tiny bit of spotting over the weekend. My progesterone was very low 8.53 and my HCG was 1203 (which was low too). The Dr. thought I was probably miscarrying so they sent me for an ultrasound. The sac measured exactly as it should. I went ahead and got a progesterone shot that day. But the next day, I lost most every sign of pregnancy. The Dr. wanted to repeat the blood on Wednesday and the HCG only went up about 52 points which is bad and progesterone was 18 because of the shot. So, I basically had given up since the HCG was barely moving but then I had my blood rechecked today and my HCG has gone up to 1956 and my progesterone is low again 7.94. I am so confused and don't know what to think. Anyone have a similar experience?? I am praying for the best for all of us.
