KSR- so very sorry for what you had to go through. That is just terrible! I have read that the complications of placenta previa can happen if you have your sch after 20 weeks and that preterm labor and birth are a complication that they should watch for. I am so sorry you story had to end like that. I know its rough to think of ever ttc again... but you will be able to and most likely will not have something like this happen again. Over on the miscarriage and loss board there is a thread I go to called "the clean slate" and we are on like thread # 63 I think! There are so many of us that experience a loss or more and at different stages as well...we give each other hope and a place to share our feelings. Two other ladies on that thread with me also had sch's and one of the ladies had it with two of her pg's. The earlier one she lost, and this one she is doing well and the sch is gone. You are welcome to come over there if you want some support and company in the ttc efforts. (((HUG))) so sorry for your loss.DYARCHO- I wish you well for a fast recovery from your hematoma! Hope all goes well at your Dec 11th scan!!! Let us know how it goes. Just take it easy with no heavy lifting and rest alot. Some go on complete bed rest, and others don't go on any bedrest at all... I did in the middle and no s_x as well. Every time I would get BAD cramping... I took it as a sign that I needed to rest. If I were to bleed, I would have done the same thing...rest. I consider myself very lucky for it to have been reaborbed so soon....some women don't even bleed until 13 weeks, and then go on to have to watch it... so I am lucky. I hope the best outcome for you and others that have to worry over this as well. ((Hug))~Lori~

I was checking in to see how others were doing. I went for my level II US and genetic counseling yesterday. They said my previous blood tests look hopeful for no Down Syndrome, but have to have echocardiogram on baby. I continue to bleed, but they gave me some explanation. They say I have a large clot from my bleed at 13 weeks right above my cervix. It is trying to pa__s out (old brown blood). They told me I have to be careful and rest because it is making my cervix try to open and any subsequent infection could cause my waters to break. I'm very tired of all this at 18 weeks and he says I could bleed for quite awhile from this. One bright spot - it's a BOY!!!

I am new to the forum. I am 10 weeks give or take a day or so. They can't tell me for sure. I live in the US. I started bleeding last week, nothing too severe but enough to fill up a pantiliner. This is my 4th pregnancy and I have never had any bleeding with previous pregnancies. The bleeding scared me so I went to the ER. They did a v____al ultrasound and a regular ultrasound and said that the baby is fine, but I have a SCH. I'm going to see my OB today so I hope all is still ok. Has anybody had a false positive on their AFP test with the SCH? I have read that it increases the risk of false positive. That would be just what I need on top of everything else. My kids are 4, 3 and 17 months so bed rest is VERY difficult. In the US we fight with our health insurance companies to provide us with the care we need. I will probably have to throw a ma__sive fit to get a perinatologist referral. Does anybody have any experience with this at 10 weeks? I have only had brown discharge since my big "bleed." Thanks to all of you and good luck.

I had a large subchorionic hematoma during my first pregnancy. At 12 weeks, I started bleeding heavily and went to the ER. The doctor told me I hadn't had a miscarriage yet, but it was likely. I continued to bleed sometimes extremely heavily (soaking through a pad an hour) for the next 6 weeks. Eventually the hematoma cleared up and I gave birth to a healthy baby girl who will be 1 next year. So, don't get discouraged, a hematoma or hemmorhage doesn't necessarily mean you will lose the baby.

Hello All: I am so grateful to have found this site. I was diagnosed with SCH at 6w3d. I was spotting with dark brown grainy blood which turned into black by weeks end. The ultrasound showed a heartbeat and a healthy embryo. I placed myself on total bedrest for the past 5 days and things steadily dropped off to sporadic brown discharge. Decided to get up and have pizza tonight and when I went to get back in bed went to bathroom and pa__sed bright red blood. Called on call doctor who was not helpful. Disregarded the bedrest and said there was no connection whatsoever between SCH and miscarriage. Told me to call in am to schedule f/u u/s. so just lying here stressing out with cramps. At 40 years old and 2 kids this is exhausting.
I am very concerned about potential birth defects a__sociated with SCH as I am already at high risk due to age and family history. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanx all Jill

I am 13.5 weeks pregnant with my 8th pregnancy. I have three children and have miscarried 5. this time I went to a fertility specialis that worked with my issues to help me pregnant on the first cycle of working with him. I give myself heparin injections and use progesterone. Last week I started spotting and went in for an U/S to discover that I have a subchorionic hematoma. It is small but still concerning. Now, I am having some sort of reaction to heparin with rashes and welts in the areas of the injections. I went online to see if I could find anything about heparing and skin rashes, but instead found research articles on how women that are pregnant and taking heparin are more inclined to develop hematomas. I called my doctor and they are checking with a specialist and will getting back to me today. the baby is fine and my 11 week screen went well with no indication of downs or other issues that the test can predict. I am very concerned at this point, but have read many articles with research data indicating that since my hemotoma developed at 12 weeks and is only 2 cm that my pronosis is good, but my histroy suggests otherwise. Needless to say, I am very concerned and anxious. I keep wondering if I should get one of those fetal hb monitors to use at home, but what would I do if one day I couldn't find the hb...I would really freak so I talk myself out of it.
I am glad I ran across this board and found other women with similar concerns.

I was diagnosed with a hematoma when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I was in the store and had a gush of blood, I was so scared since 4 years ago I lost our son in my 17th week. So I thought I was miscarrying again. When I got to the ER they were trying to get me to relax, they checked to make sure my cervix was closed and it was and then took me in for an Ultra Sound. They came in and told me the baby was fine and they even found a heart beat. You could imagine my husband and our relief. I was put on bed rest for 4 days and had to follow up with the doc that Monday. I went in things were good he took me off bed rest just told me to take it easy no vigerious house cleaning or exercising. I am now 12 weeks pregnant and feeling pretty good. I still say my prayers everyday that God will keep our baby safe and healthy!

I just had my 6wk ultrasound to find out that I have a 19X15mm hematoma. This sounds very big to me. I'm very nervous of the outcome right now. I'm not on bed rest but just told to rest. I'm on progesterone twice a day. I hope this helps. Does anyone know anything about the sizes and does this sound really big for 6 weeks pregnant?

I am 8.5 weeks pregnant, I woke up this morning covered in blood and thought I was miscarrying. We went to the hospital and the dr. wrote on the diagnosis of the ultrasound, Subchorionic bleed 3 cm...blood in endocervical ca___l. I have read the replies here, and feel a little better, but could use all of the rea__suring I could get. If anyone has any more info on the second part (blood in endocervical ca___l) please forward? Thanks...this is our first baby and I am scared!

I had a hematoma in my last pregnancy. It was not too big and I did not have any visable bleeding and it reabsorbed within about a month and I now have a healthy, happy 3 month old little boy. Please try to take it easy and stay off your feet, during my research I read that will help it heal and reduce bleeding. Good luck, I hope you have an outcome as I did. Congrats on your pregnancy.

Hi. I am 11 weeks pregnant with my 12th pregnancy. I have had 8 losses and 3 healthy children. I have always miscarried before the 10th week. I began having brown spotting at the 10th week. It went away for 5 days and then came back rather lightly for 2 more days. Then it quit and I haven't bled for several days. I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and the baby was healthy and jumping around like a little mexican bean. I rented a doppler machine from babybeats.com and once a day I listen to the heart beat. At the 11 week ultrasound, the tech found 2 large hematomas. The doc said that they are "very extensive". I didn't think to ask him for exact measurements. He put me on bedrest which is very trying for our family. But I lie here none the less because I want to do all I can. I guess we're going to do another scan in a few weeks to see if the hematomas are shrinking. Meanwhile, I check for a heartbeat once a day which is the highlight of my day! This little b___terbean is hanging in there tight! I guess the good news is that I never had red blood, never heavy, and that it has stopped altogether for the last 4 days... The waiting game is going to drive me insane. The only thing I find discouraging about this board is that so many people never come back and report what happened in their pregnancy. Do you a__sume that only the people with positive outcomes come back and update?

Last year I had was diagnosed with a moderately sized hematoma. I was terrified. I searched all the message boards and read all I could about the problem. I saw so much negative stuff on the web that I was sure my pregnancy was doomed. Even my doctor was not super positive (but looking back I think he probably aired on the cautious side for liability reasons). I bled several times from weeks 7 thru 15. Finally, the bleeding ceased. At my 20 week ultrasound they saw no hematoma. At that point, the technician said very nonchalantly that they usually do reabsorb. And six hours before my due date, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I made a promise to myself that I would come back and write about my experience to encourage all those out there with the same diagnosis. Hang in there!

I started bleeding at five weeks. I'm on my 15th week now and I still bleed for half a day and spot old blood for a week or so then bleed fresh blood again. My latest sonogram shows a retro-decidual hematoma/bleeding and I have been on antifibrinolytics, progesterone, and Metformin (I have PCOS, and Type 2 Diabetes). When I don't feel the tiny flutters, I get paranoid, that maybe the baby is no longer there, especially when my own mother would comment that my tummy seemed to be not bulging as it should. But every time I go for an ultrasonography, the results would reveal a baby with strong heartbeat and activity. My next u/s is tomorrow and I hope to see a little hand waving at me. :) I'm just trusting God on this. May the Lord's comfort and peace be with you all.
