A Question About Your 6 Week Pp Check Up

Hi ladies! I'm not yet post partem- still got another 7 weeks to go, but i was talking to a friend of mine and she told me that at the six week postpartum check up, they make you walk across the room naked from waist down to check how the uterus has shrunk, or something like that....is that true????? i know its stupid but I'm freaking out about it!

That is absolutely not true (at least not from where I'm from)!!! They will check your uterus periodically in the hospital to make sure it is shrinking down and the way they check it is by pushing with their fingers on your stomach. You do not have to be naked for this either. Don't freak out! You are fine. Keep in mind that they can't tell by just looking at the way you walk if your uterus shrunk!

I had 4 children and know countless women who have had babies, PLUS I just finished my OB rotation for nursing school and I can honestly say there is absolutely no value in having you walk naked across a room to a__sess uterine involution. That is done as Lexa said by manual palpation and internal exam. Do not worry about this and your friend should discuss this with the ethics board if a doctor made her do this. You are not stupid for asking a question regarding startling stories.
