You need to see an RE or an OB who can deal with infertility, NOT your GP. They should have done blood tests in order to diagnose you with PCOS, including levels of LH, FSH, Testosterone, insulin, etc... The metformin is NOT just to help you conceive!! It stabilizes your insulin levels and thereby other hormones produced by the endocrine system, straightening out your cycles and allowing you to produce healthy eggs and ovulate on your own. I also have PCOS. I got pregnant 3 times on my own before ever being diagnosed. I lost all 3. I'm sorry but your GP is an idiot - just because you can get pregnant on your own doesn't mean the PCOS does not need to be treated and regulated. Metformin DRASTICALLY reduces your chance of miscarriage - by as much as 65% according to certain controlled studies. It is possible to get pregnant and have a healthy baby without treatment, but your chances are so much lower that way. If you aren't already, start taking a prenatal vitamin. If it doesn't come with a DHA supplement, you might also want to take an omega supplement (fish oil, not flaxseed), as it can be helpful if you don't get much in your diet. Metformin helped to straighten out my cycles and get pregnant. I am 9w3d, so not in the clear yet, but we had an ultrasound at 7w3d and saw the hb, and have another on Thursday. I'm also on a progesterone supplement because for me the PCOS came with a progesterone deficiency. If you have a short LP, you might not produce enough progesterone. If you're not sure, you should start charting your basal body temperature. There is a special BBT thermometer sometimes known as a fertility thermometer. A great site for charting is fertilityfriend.com. They have a charting course that will teach you pretty much everything you need to know. Once you figure out your cycles, timing is key. So your first steps should be vitamin, charting, and find a good OB who will HELP you. Other than that...I'm very sorry for your loss. We're all here to support each other. How far along were you?

Sapphire, I am sorry to hear about you losing your little one and the troble in conceiving again. I don't suffer from this but I do have a very good friend who does. She has only recently been diagnosed with PCOS. She had tests done over a year ago after trying to fall pregnant for over six months following a term baby who is nearlly two. She was told at the time by the receptionst that all was clear. She suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks in November and went back to her GP for a follow-up and when the doctor looked over here notes basically told her she had been lucky to ever fall pregnant her ovaries were in that bad a state. The bloods and scans had shown up the PCOS when they were done and she should have been getting treated long before now. She has had two miscarriages, one before her son and one after and was told she would need 'help' again in falling pregnant. She found out yesterday she is pregnant again and although worried sick she is taking one day at a time. Like BeckyBunny said though if you can, chart. It is the best way to now exactly what your cycles are or aren't doing. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Oh and she has fallen pregnant naturally. She charts religiously though and timed s_x as well as she could. Good luck again.

It's good that you have taken steps toward preparing your body nutrition wise. Some OB's won't prescribe metformin if your insulin levels are "normal". I have however talked to many people who had PCOS with "normal" insulin levels and irregular cycles, who were prescribed metformin anyway...and it made their cycles normal. Your hormones work together, not each doing its own separate thing - so the metformin helps balance out the other hormone levels involved. I don't understand why some doctors don't see that. I live not too far away from Vanderbilt university/medical center, and since being diagnosed with PCOS have done a fair amount of research. ;-) But yeah. Just keep taking care of yourself, start charting, and if your doctor won't prescribe you metformin, I guess just hope for the best. Try and ask for a progesterone supplement once you get a BFP, it may help. It hasn't been "clinically proven" to help, but there are many women who have had recurrent miscarriages that swear that's the only thing that allowed them to have a healthy baby. If you can't get a script for that either, they sell natural creams at like GNC. We'll get our babies eventually!! Some of us just have to do a little extra work to make sure everything is ok! *hugs*

Sapphire: I have PCOS I have had two children one in 1991 and one in 2006, I was on fertility drugs from 1993-2002, and gave up, my 2006 baby came all by himself. I have since gotten pg 3 times but miscarried all of them. I follow a good diabetic diet, no caffeine, not too much nutrasweet, and take extra folic acid. I also chart to keep track of everything.. If you can get your blood sugar tested that will also help you conceive and carry full term, if you can keep them at a steady level with PCOS. Best of luck to you!!!!

I have Pcos. I have a healthy 12 year old that was a total shock after 8 years of trying. Nowi am remarried to a manwho has never had children. I have had 2 mc's. one in 2006 and one 1/2008. That was when my GP put me on metformin. I have just had my 1st AF after my D&C. I am ttc this cycle. My blood sugar has been high of and on. Makes me tired and drowsy. Anyone had that? Send me all the baby dust you can.Sapphire never stop trying. i really belive that when it is my time my baby will come. Each loss is hard but you have to deal with them individually. I named my babies and made memorials to them online. Also planted flowers outside that come up every year reminding me that they exsisted even though they are not with me. DUST DUST......

Hi! It is hurting me to hear about your miscarriages. I know it is very difficult to face miscarriage. I had a miscarriage thrice. It was very frustrating. I lost all my hope of being a mother. But I came to know about surrogacy. I had passed through surrogacy process and blessed with a beautiful baby girl. You should not take the stress. You should go for surrogacy. Lots of love for you.

Just read your post! So, sorry for your previous loss. I want you to stop panicking dear. Yes! It's not necessary that you get another MC. But, I think you should try via clomid. I'm also a PCOS patient. My journey is long for like 6 years. Trying via an IVF this July at a reproduction center in Ukraine. I'm doing this because my case is different. So, yes! What do you think? I mean take advise and discuss it with your doctor first. I hope your obs will find you a better option.

How you miscarried was there any reason behind this? I am sorry to hear about your miscarriage. But don't worry this happens to most of the women be strong and brave.
I am also TTC from last 10 years but i can't conceive. There is no reason behind this. No one knows the reason behind my infertility. Even the doctors can't figure out the reason behind this. So we have decided to go for surrogacy now.

Now i am married again and me and my husband are thinking of having of having a baby. I guess keeping in aspects like me a woman should probably go for surrogacy method to have a baby..I'm looking for a good woman who can carry our child in her womb for 9 months with care I know that at this age and keeping in mind all the aspects regarding mt previous pregnancy complications getting pregnant again will be not a good idea. So i have convinced my husband for having a baby via surrogacy. For that purpose we have consulted a number of clinics and have positive reviews about surrogacy. Now as i and my husband are ready for surrogacy option. But still i am looking for a perfect lady who can help us. I met many women who are offering their services to many clinics regarding surrogacy.
