Couple of questions for those of you who are taking/have taken Lovenox -- did you continue taking the baby aspirin? did you experience spotting once you started the injections?

cloud9climber - February 13

Hey TUTU!! Nope... still pregnant! I go for my last OB appointment tomorrow. The plan is to induce on Tuesday if he doesn't come on his own by then. I'm really ready to say the least. I'll post as soon as he gets here. Congratulations SAILING MOM! I continued taking baby aspirin until 28 weeks and started Lovenox at 7 weeks and stopped at 36 weeks. The b.a. stopped at 28 weeks because my rheumatologist said that it MAY hinder the baby's heart fully closing. Good luck to you! I hope everyone else is doing well!! All the best to all you girls! :)

OMG! So excited I found you ladies! Brief story is that my DH (38 years this month) and I (36 years)have been TTC for 10 months. We had a m/c in August 2008 (ironically over Labor Day weekend). My doc rocks and immediately did DNA testing, to which he found some mild clotting and a positive mutation for MTHFR. We tried Clomid unsuccessfully for two months after the diagnosis (made me stop ovulating - ugh) and then had more testing done in January (SA for DH (all normal swimmers - yay!) and HSG for me (no blockage - again YAY!)) Anyhoo, after all that, we got another BFP at the end of January! I am now 6 weeks preggers, which is just past when we miscarried. I am hopeful but still nervous. I take DHA, prenatal vitamins, baby aspirin, folgard and now prometrium daily. My husband says I look like an 80 year old woman with my days-of-the-week pill box :). I am so excited and encouraged to read about all the successes on this blog. It gives me hope and I will continue to check in with all of you. I can't tell you how much getting the diagnosis of MTHFR and clotting early has helped. Prayers to all...

Hey girls! So glad to see good stuff happening here :) CLOUD I can't wait to hear about your birth!!!! So soon! and TUTU too! Hang in there girls it will be here before you know it. SAILING MOM CONGRATULATIONS!!! I took my baby aspirin all the way through the pregnancy and still do every day even after. I did the Lovenox up until 2 days before I was induced. I felt safer going that way I guess. SHANNON, CONGRATS to you as well! It sounds like you are taking the best things for this so we are all pulling for you and your little one :) As for me, Ava is doing great...sleeping right now, actually I just checked on her and she's sucking on her hand. At about 6 months she went through a waking a lot at night thing and now at 7.5 months she's still not sleeping as well as she did the first several months. Oh well...it's a big transition time with growth, eating solids, doing more, etc. She's so fun though and I feel truly blessed each day. I was even thinking the other day how I'd love another one but seriously everything I had to do for the pregnancy just wore me out. I can't imagine doing it all again although Iwould in a heartbeat if I got pregnant again. The lovenox is soooo expensive even with insurance and all the other vitamins and I did acupuncture too. I think I literally had at least one appt. a week for something throughout the pregnancy. WHEW! I'm just gonna enjoy the heck out of my little girl for a while now :) I'll check back in and see how you all are doing. keep bumping this up b/c I forget!!!!

It's great to hear all the good news on here...and of course, terriblly sad to hear the bad...and I hope the best for all. I was recently tested postive for the single strand (heterozygous) of MTHFR. I'm obsessing over online research regarding this mutation. I asked my doc to prescribe me folgard which I'm now taking but originally they just said it's no big deal, just take extra folic acid. I read different things all the time. I'm wondering if those of you who just have the one strand of MTHFR went on to have successful pregnancies after taking folgard or other folic acid/vitamin B supplements? I had 3 mc's by the way. I'm so nervous about being preggers again because I just don't know what the real reason was. MTHFR, progesterone, thyroid? I'm taking meds for all 3 now so keeping fingers crossed!

Hi girls!! GREAT NEWS!!! My little baby boy, Casey Christopher was born yesterday at 1:08pm. He is just the best thing ever. I don't know how to even explain it. Surreal, euphoric, tiring, wonderful, weird and all around just amazing! I ended up needing a C section because he wasn't engaged into my pelvis at all even after 24 hours of cervidel. OB decided against pitocin - she just didn't think he would drop at all. Plus, with my MTHFR and positive ANA, she just wanted him out. We were fine with it. I'm not gonna lie... recovery from a C section is painful. Thank God for drugs but it's all worth it. I'm at the hospital until Friday which I am so thankful for - I could not recover at home. Breast feeding has been interesting and frustrating. He wouldn't latch yesterday or today so we pumped to get some colostrum and he goobled it down. I must admit I'm still WAY overwhelmed by the b___b thing but the LC here at the hospital is great and I'll work with her again tomorrow. When I get home, settled and feeling a little better physically, I'll go to a BF cla__s. I hope I get the hang of it! My DH is in heaven and has become a "baby hog." I just let him and his Mom fight it out. It's so cute to hear talk to the baby and tell him how much he loves him. It's enough to make you cry! It is still hard to believe that we have a baby and that we are parents even as I look at my little baby wrapped up like a burrito right next to my bed. Life is good :)

Oh, CLOUD that is such wonderful awesome news!!!!!! I am so so glad to hear your little man is here. WELCOME CASEY TO THE WORLD!!!!! Enjoy and relax and let everyone pamper you :) It just makes me tear up. I am just getting to the stage with AVa where it is getting fun and she's almost 8 months and doing all kinds of fun stuff but I so miss those first days and the bitty bitty newborn. A good friend of mine just had her baby girl a month early via emergency c section and I went to visit and the baby is so perfect and tiny! Anyways, keep us posted!!!! DAYNARELLA, I have heterozygous MTHFR and most docs thought it was not problematic. I still will never know if it caused my losses or something else, but I did the blood thinners, progesterone, folic, B vitamins and baby aspirin and omega 3. I feel that it all made a difference. I always wonder if there is something else that happens with MTHFR carriers that docs have not discovered yet. I read about tooooooo many heteros out there having multiple losses to just ignore it. Anyways, you say you have thyroid issues? Thyroid problems are listed as one of the most common causes of m/c so stay on your meds to keep it under control and let your doc know you are trying to conceive. Hang in there and don't give up :)

Daynarella - February 18

Stefkay - Thank you so much for the feedback. I have been taking baby aspirin (just in case) even though my doc said not to. I agree that perhaps docs don't know the full story yet about MTHFR, even the heterozygous kind. Please tell me have you had successful pregnancies since taking the supplements? Cloud - Congratulations! How fantastic. You must be on "cloud" 9!! I can't wait until it happens for me.

cloud9climber - February 18

Thanks so much girls! STEFKAY - I can't believe Ava is almost 8 months! Time really flies huh? I'm going to enjoy every day with my little peanut. I swear when they are first born that they are just like little baby birds - awkward and hungry. It's really so cute as you know :) DAYNARELLA - Thanks for the well wishes... I'm so very sorry for your losses. Please get a prescription of Folgard and start taking it now. It is blended with B6 and B12 so that you can properly absorb the Folic acid portion of the vitamin. I would also continue taking a b.a. a day. Find a doctor that has dealt with patients that have MTHFR or find a good rheumatologist in addition to your OB. I would also suggest looking into the lovenox once you are pregnant again. Don't give up hope! Have faith that your body and your spirit will bring you a healthy pregnancy. Best of luck to you!

CLOUD!!!! I got all teary as I was reading your post about Casey arriving! I am SOOO excited for you. Congratulations!!! I fear sometimes that I may have to go through a c-section too, for one reason or another..but as you said, it's all worth it in the end. I'm 31 weeks now, and baby didn't move too much last night, and it made me nervous and scared to death! He's moved quite a bit so far today, thank God, but as the time nears, I get really nervous. Trying to stay positive and hopeful, and your post, and Stefkay's keep me going. Wow! AVA is already 8 months!!! I remember finding out I'm pregnant when I read that you had her...Time does fly. Anyway, goodluck to the rest of you,and CLOUD, keep posting!!!

I was searching the web trying to find info. on my infertility conditions and came across the thread. I am so happy to read about success stories, it keeps my hope alive. A little background on me - I have compound heterozygous MTHFR(two different strands) and have had 7 m/c in the last 2 years. I am blessed with one healthy beautiful 4 year old boy but want to add to the family. The first RE I saw basically told me it was a lost cause and need an egg donor. Unfortunately we are unable to afford any type of expensive treatment and must trust that our luck will prevail again. I was on clomid for 6 month and never got pregnant. I stopped the meds for the summer and conceived twice both ending in m/c around 6 weeks. I guess my body doesn't like or want the meds. The last m/c I had a D&C and the results found the fetus had triploidy. My new RE wants me to try Endometrin with my cycles and Lovenox with a positive pregnancy test. With my low progestrone and MTHFR she believes that this will help. I am also in folgard, baby aspirin and prenatal vitamins. We will see. It is nice to be able to communicate with others going through similar situations.

shannon_atlanta - February 19

Daynarella and Dana - I have one mutation of MTHFR and take daily a DHA pill, prenatal vitamin, a baby aspirin, folgard, and now that I am preggers, I take 100MG of prometrium in the AM and one at PM. I had a m/c before being diagnosed with MTHFR and was on clomid for 2 months but it made me stop ovulating and didn't work for me either. Once I got off clomid and had an HSG test, we conceivied days later. We are over 7 weeks along at this point (nearly 2 weeks past when I miscarried last time). There are many success stories (Cloud and Stefkey among others) of women like us who took meds for this mutation and have had healthy babies. It's SO great to read... Cloud - Congrats on Casey! Your post gave me chills and moved me to tears. TuTu - Keep us posted on your progress Stefkey - Ava sounds amazing... QQ for the group... I think I am only supposed to take the 200 MG daily of progesterone until 10-12 weeks. Does anyone know? I feel like everytime I see my doc I ask him a zillion questions but he doesn't seem to mind in the least. We see my doc for our 8 week u/s on Tuesday where we hopefully will be able to see the heartbeat - yay! Sticky baby dust to all... XO

KristineTM - February 19

Hi everyone! I am happy to hear all of us pregos are doing well this time! CLOUD---Congratulations on baby Casey! I am so happy for you! TuTu----I am 33 weeks now....we are almost there. I can't believe it! I have a quick question I have been reading a lot and found that many woman with MTHFR get induced or have c-sections around 38 weeks...why is that?

tutu2008 - February 19

KRISTINE, in answer to your question...i'm getting induced at 37 weeks since that's when baby's considered full term. i'll be taking some steroid a week prior to ensure baby's lungs fully mature. the answers i got to why i'm getting induced earlier are...#1: MTHFR is more likely to cause complications later in the pregnancy, so as soon as baby's full term, let's deliver him. #2: i'm on baby aspirin and that also has it's side effects when taken during the last trimester....so once baby's full term, let's deliver him. and #3: my stillbirth was actually due to a fetal-maternal hemorrhage which is also more likely to occur later in the pregnancy, so again once once baby's full term, let's deliver him. i think these are all educated guesses though, because complications can occur any time during pregnancy, and i personally feel like they usually occur earlier in the pregnancy- especially first trimester. SO, i think docs induce earlier to give the mom a peace of mind and that if baby's full term, let's have him/her in mommy's arms rather than in the belly with mommy still stressing/worrying (my doc. also gave me that as an answer, and i agreed to getting induced for that reason- i've been pretty worked up with this pregnancy!). i can't remember...are you getting induced? i've got 6 weeks!

stefkay - February 19

Daynarella, why did your doc say not to take the b.a.? Did he say why? Even the most conservative doc I saw said it was fine. Geez, some doctors drive me nuts. My last 2 pregnancies I was on the treatment I listed earlier. The last one was successful and the next to last one was not but I found out after path reports from d&c that the baby had a trisomy. So it was a fluke. It scares me for the future still if I want to have another. I was a wreck with most of my daughter's pregnancy but she came out perfect! I don't know what helped....the b.a., the lovenox, the progesterone, the vitamins or a combo of all, but something did. Hell I could have bad eggs and a good one got through, lol. I'm just glad I tried everything to see if something would stick you know? DANAB, good luck to you! It sounds like you are on the right track and I would totally do the lovenox. Continue the vitamins (especially the extra folic) now and while you are trying and all through the pregnancy. I'd definitely do the Prometrium if you can get it. I had done wax suppositories at only 50mg per day with an earlier pregnancy I lost but with my daughter I did prometrium 300mg a day inserted v____ally (100mg morning, noon and night). I think it helped a lot. I wonder about MTHFR carriers having low progesterone. I'm not a dr. so I have no data on this, but my fertility dr. seemed to know a lot about the progesterone and talked a lot about how it is beneficial even though many regular OBs think it is not. KRISTINE AND TUTU, Good luck girls on your upcoming deliveries! I can't wait to hear about your bundles of joy :) I am so excited!!!!! SHANNON, tons and tons of babydust to you and I pray so hard that everything works out brilliantly for you and your little one!!!! I did 300mg of prometrium daily until 14 weeks. I was too scared to go off at 12 so my doc let me wean down to 200mg daily and then 100mg daily starting at 12 weeks. I stopped it altogether the day I turned 14 weeks.
