Luteal Phase Defect B6 Had The Opposite Effect

Hi ladies, I'm seriously confused and would really appreciate some advice. I have been ttc baby number 2 for 6 months now. My luteal phase, according to Fertlity Friend has always been 10 or 11 days max. As I have been trying for 6 months with no success I figured it wouldn't do me any harm to start taking vitamin B6 along with my pre-natal vitamin to try and lengthen my luteal phase a little bit increase it above 10 days. The reason I decided to do this is because last month I had almost every pregnancy symptom in the book and was convinced I was pregnant. Then at 11dpo af arrived and completey through me. So I wondered whether I actually had been pregnant but the luteal phase of 10 days was too short to maintain the pregnancy?! Well, I started taking 100mg of B6 a day, for the past month. I ovulated 10 days ago and yesterday (9dpo) I started spotting. Lighter than my usual af but still slight bleeding nonetheless. I also had a 0.4 deg temp dip today at 10dpo, although it didn't go below coverline. If I enter the spotting into FF as light bleeding it changes my chart to record af and gives me a luteal phase this month of 8 DAYS! So, this would mean that i've been taking 100mg of B6 for the entire month and it has shortened my LP by 2 days?! Isn't B6 only supposed to lengthen your LP? Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Would you ladies mind taking a peek at my chart and giving me your opinion? I'm so confused by it.
If I enter it as spotting, which it has been, although there has been some red blood (sorry, t.m.i ), FF classes it as just that, and keeps me on 10dpo with a temp dip. I have a 20 month old DS and it took 6 months to concieve the first time. I never experienced Implantation Bleeding with my first pregnancy. Would that mean that I wouldn't with a second pregnancy. Has anyone ever heard of B6 shortening a Luteal Phase? I know I haven't which is why I'm so confused with the bleeding at 9dpo. Please help and advise if you can.

It sounds like you're spotting rather than bleeding. AF is more of a flow if you know what i mean! If you have a significant progesterone deficiency or luteal phase defect, B6 probably wouldn't be enough to fix it (but it should definitely help). I would guess it's just coincidence that you spotted early this month on the B6. I think it takes a few cycles before you see the benefits of B6 anyways. Before I started taking progesterone supplements I usually started spotting around 9 or 10dpo but once at 8dpo - you can imagine what that did to my mental state! Next month I had the 7dpo test and it confirmed low progesterone. With the supplements, my LP has increased to 15 or 16 days with just a day or two spotting. My RE reckoned that was a major factor in not getting pregnant...mind you I'm still not pregnant after 5 months of supplements lol. I don't know much about implantation bleeding but I remember reading somewhere that it can happen for one pregnancy but not another and vice versa. I suppose my only word of caution is that if you normally spot early before AF, it's probably that...I know I've convinced myself a few times but now I know when I see the spotting that I'm out of the game for that cycle! Good luck to you!

Hi, thank you for your reply. Well I guess it just must be af coming early, I haven't had much more spotting, it's been very scant but my temp today has remained the same as yesterday, 97.58. An implantation dip usually only occurs for one day and I would have expected my temp to rise again today if I were pregnant. So I'm out for another month.
I could kick myself for taking B6 this month and not leaving well alone. I conceived my DS without taking B6, just my normal pre-natal vitamins which contain 2mg of B6, with a Luteal Phase of 10 days. I just thought B6 would lengthen my luteal phase as all of the stories on the web have suggested that it works. I was gobsmacked to have bleeding at 9dpo, more upset than usual. FF has put it down as an 8 day luteal phase! ;o(
It's harder to stomach this month as we did everything we could, bd'd at the right times, every other day up to 'o', the day before 'o' and the day after. We also used Preseed for the first time too so I was so hopeful to have caught the egg this month. To say that I'm gutted is an understatement.
I think I'll just stick with the pre-natal vitamin and stop taking the B6 altogether. I can't handle this happening again next month as I have blamed myself. I keep thinking, 'what if we conceived, and then I ruined our chances by taking B6!' Silly I know, but it's just thew shortest LP I've ever had.
Do you think it's worth starting on Progesterone Pills this month? It sounds like it has worked for you and increased your LP. Do you mind me asking how much you take a day? Are they in the form of tablets?
I have booked an appointment with my GP for Tuesday of next week and am going to ask him to do a test of my progesterone levels at 7dpo. Hopefully he can give me a prescription for Progesterone. I would still like to lengthen my LP but am too scared to take B6 now, after this month. You don't need to take Progesterone AND B6 to lengthen your LP do you?

I totally understand how depressing it is to start spotting so early but you shouldn't blame yourself or the B6. It sounds like you did everything you could and well, that's all you can do, right?! The B6 isn't a miracle cure but it certainly won't hinder your chances. I'm on a low dose of Duphaston twice a day after ovulation (can't remember the exact amount, 20mg I think?). I don't take anything else to help with the luteal phase. That seems to be enough. Good idea to get the progesterone test done. It really can make a difference...or so they tell me!

Hi, just thought I would come and join your thread as I have actually today been and got my progesterone test done!!! Will get the results on Monday. It will probably be helpful to you as I have exactly the same problem, I have been monitering myself for about 2 years now and I start spotting anywhere between 8dpo and 13dpo. I mainly start spotting around 10dpo on average though. It actually drives you mad as you can't help but think is it IB or is it gonna be AF, mine has always been AF unfortunately. We are currently in the process of being referred to a specialist as have been TTC 12mths +. I have also got another hormone test on between day 2 and 5 of AF starting which I'm praying will stay away however is very hard to stay positive when you have been TTC this long. I'm sure the B6 had no affect on your LP and it was just a coincidence. I will let you know my results as it may give you some answers :o) lets think positive as it is not worth thinking anything but :o)

Hey Kelly, did you get your test results yet? If they're low you qualify to join the Progesterone Posse thread for girls with naughty progesterone ;-)

I've had regular 28 day cycles my whole life until the last 4 months when they started getting shorter. My husband and I are TTC (we were successful in the 1st month or two with both of our boys) and since my cycle has changed we decided to use an OPK. I ovulated at what should have been a normal 28 day cycle, at 4DPO I started to have typical pregnancy symptoms, aversion to smells, dizzyness, nausea, food aversions, and tender b___sts (I did the same with my youngest son at about the same timing) however 9DPO I started my menses. This makes me wonder if my suddenly shortening cycles are due to LPD. I have done some reading and am thinking about trying Vitex since, due to circ_mstances beyond our control, we only have 2-3 more chances to conceive before we will have to put the whole thing off for 2 years! I am meeting with my doctor tomorrow to see what he thinks and if he has any suggestions...with all hope things will work out in our favor here very soon!
