ok i have some exciting news!! i had a midwife appoinment today and while she was feeling Heidi she said she feels full term! (not sure how they know that from feeling her) she said something in my notes about baby palpations? but i think its something about her showing signs of being full term............she said if i didnt allready have a scan booked for nect tuesday then she would of booked me for one as she thinks baby is large and wants me induced if the scan confirms this! she doesnt want to risk me not having a natrual birth because of her size.............i,ve always known she,s big i mean at 29 weeks she was 3lb 5oz at 33 weeks she was 5lb 10 oz!! which was very large so depending on her estiamted weight on tuesday they will book me to be induced!! i will be 37 weeks this sat so im not worried if they get her weight wrong as she will be to term anyway! but from what i gather she weighed what she should do now 4 weeks ago so im defo thinking they,l induce me 2 weeks early! 1 question i didnt ask though is she has bobbed her head back up so her head is no longer engaged, do you think this affects being induced? she's head down but has pulled it back up! at 33 weeks she was 2/5 engaged then it went to 3/5 for two visits and then 4/5 on satureday and now 5/5 which is free! can you still be induced?

I don't think you need to worry about where she is. Some babies' heads don't engage until the mom is in labor. I can't imagine it would effect their decision to induce you.

i know but how can they induce me if her head isnt engaged lol thats liek putting me in to labour when her head isnt in the right place lol, i spoke to someone about it and they said they give you some drip that helps your urerus relax and help there head engage.....sounds odd to me but meh i just had a phone call from the midwife and i tested positive for group B strep infection...........are you around teddy im sure you said you had this? they said it should be fine i have to go to hospital as soon as i go in to labour even if my contraction are an hour apart so they can give me a drip with some antibiotics in it (if i dont get induced) it just seems the further along in this pregnancy i get the more problems im getting!! im so hoping they induce me next week

WHAT?!?!? Your mw says that she doesn't want you to risk NOT having a natural birth and she wants to INDUCE you!?!?! I really hope I misunderstood you. Induction will lead most likely to many other interventions and very likely to a c-section with can't be farther away from a natural birth. Okay, maybe I didn't understand you, lets hope!

I was induced and I had a natural child birth... No problems at all, my doctor didn't even think about giving me a C-section. A load of people are induced without having C-sections. It's happened to everyone in my family, and several other people I know. It's a risk, sure, but if her baby is measuring big it's the best way to give her a chance at it. Angel, I would just listen to your midwife. I'm sure they wouldn't do anything dangerous or ineffective.

Good luck! And I was induced, had a natural birth, well v____al anyways. Also they gave me pitocin with Addy and she was v____al as well. Angel, don't worry about not being engaged. As soon as you have regular contractions it is likely your uterus will push her into position.

all of my girlfriends that were induced had natural births. i'm not quite sure where you got the impression that induction most likely leads to c-section.

Krissy25 - January 20

My mom was induced with me and my brother and went on to have us both v____ally. Although i believe induction can lead to a higher chance of a c-section i don't think it means it's the most likely outcome.

even if induction increases the chance of c-section, atleast i,ll have a chance of a V-delivery....if i dont get induced and i go 2 weeks over i have no chance of pushing out a baby that weighs well over 10lbs! (well teddy did but i,d rather not lol) its safer for my baby to be induced at a healthy weight than go two weeks over and her be ober 10lbs i mean 29 weeks she weighed 3lb 4oz 4 weeks later at 33 weeks she weighed 5lb 10oz so thats an average of about 2 1/2lbs every 4 weeks so if she is still gaining weight like that she is estaimted to be around 8lb 1oz at 37weeks if i then go 2 weeks late (which is common for first time mothers) then at 41 weeks she,s estiamted to weigh about 10 and a half pounds! which is considered dangourous to give birth natrually to.......it all depends on this next scan but lunamoo im quite happy with this decsion, it would be the only way she could attemp to be born natraully! if it ends up in a c-section then oh well it would of anyway........ thanks guys, addy im not sure how they induce here.........i know they use a gel that softons your cervix and a drip if need be but im not sure whats in it

Ladies inducing and picotin are not natural births! A natural birth is exactly as nature intended, you and the baby and that's it. Anyway angelmonkey there are so so many posts on here about ladies being induced because of a "huge" or super small baby and in the end they had your average 6-8 pounders. U/S are notorious for being off my more than 2 pounds! Going over 2 weeks is NORMAL, giving birth to a 9 plus pounder is NORMAL. It is not the weight that is painful or hurts or dangerous for that matter....it is the head circ_mference alone which is the "biggest" part of the baby to birth. Any good luck what ever you decide. Just be very aware of the risks of messing around with mother nature. I was induced and threatned with a c-section with my 1st because she was "huge" ha ha ha, she weight a perfect average of 7 1/2 pounds.

Getting induced doesn't guarantee that you'll most likely have a c-section. Now statistics may agree with such ideas, but you should always look at statistics. Why are women usually induced. Many times, like in my case, there is something going wrong-an emergency, so they induce you. Sometimes things smooth out and you get the v-delivery you want, but sometimes the problems get to a level where the baby needs to be delivered right then. I imagine all cases are involved in inductions, so it isn't a fair a__sessment. In Angelmonkey's case, it is about size-nothing else seems wrong enough that it's going to just send her right in for a c-section. As for the strep B. It's really not such a complication with the technology they have. You get the IV and beyond that there really isn't much else to worry about. It's pretty much taken care of. Also no it isn't weird for them to induce you with the baby's head where it is. This actually goes back to early discussions where we realized that over there they obviously use a different general term than us. Your baby was head down and here they'd say "oh she's already in place for labor." But when a doctor here says engaged it's like locked and loaded in the birth ca___l. Babies move constantly. Babies even move around during labor. Many women get induced with a baby high up, or with their b___t towards the birth ca___l, they only worry when they see the baby entering the birth ca___l the wrong way, and that is near the end of labor. Many women go through labor and their baby naturally just moves head down and comes out. Now there are stubborn babies who don't, then they will either deliver it breech (if it's a position that the doctor's are confident they can deal with with no problems and the doctor has enough experience with it) or the will give you a c-section. Really nothing you have mentioned here is cause for concern. It sounds like they have their eye on everything. Now if it was olden times and they couldn't catch things like Group b strep and the size of the baby then yes the baby would get it because you wouldn't have gotten treated and you could have had problem with a 10 lb full-term baby being stuck. But that is not the case here. You're fine and it just shows you you have a good team to take care of you, so relax and enjoy the ride cuz it's about to get exciting!

Jez, just google "risks of induction" or something of the sort. Induction produces starts off the normal birthing process unnaturally. If you break the waters deliberately the baby loses its head "cushion" --more stress to the babies head. Plus risk of prolapsed cord, plus the water serves as a natural pressure to help dialate the cervix...need I say more. So when this is done the chances of needing picotin or oxytocin greatly increases. Both these drugs produces UNNATURAL hard and fast contractions which is MORE STRESS to the baby. More often than not this leads to fetal distress and ends in c-section. Just check out any stats on this. C-sections (unless pre planned) are my far most likely to result in an end of interventions.....That's just the way it is. I just believe in women, mother nature and all that. We have done this for millions of years sucessfully, why try to "fix" something that already works.... or at minimum give it a chance to flow and work as nature intended. So many doctors think they are greater than god and nature and that women are unable to birth without them.

Ha last post here....just check out the c-section forum here. Go back 5 pages or so and read all the stories.

lunmoo this will be my 6th scan, i think its pretty accurate to be told 6 times she is big and to have a midwife feel her and also say she,s big.............i know that going 2 weeks over is normal, if i was to go that far over she would be over 10lb.........that is dangourous to give birth to.....i dont want to distress my baby..............i want a chance to give birth v____aly.............im willling to take the risk because as far as im concerned if i dont it will be a defonate c- section.............im doing whats best for my baby...............and even if they happened to be wrong about her size she,ls still be healthy! thanks anyway its considered not safe for mother nature to take place for me and safe for her to be induced! im not going to put my baby at MORE risk by not being induced

angelmonkey - January 21

thanks for the info V

I was induced and had a v____al delivery as well. There were no complications besides my epidural failing. And no it doesnt matter where the baby is when they induce you as long as shes head down.

amanda17 - January 21

It won't be dangerous to your baby even if, theoretically, the scans are wrong, because you'll be 37 weeks. I think it's a good idea for you to be induced and I hope nothing is discouraging you.
