My doctor says that my cervix is only 1/2 inch long instead of the normal 1 inch...I was just wondering if that could cause any problems or anything. Btw Im 36w 3d.

I'm not sure, but I think that your cervix has to shorten before it dilates? Someone else?

it shouldnt be a problem. I was 40% effaced at like 34 weeks (gosh I cant remember now lol but it was early) I stayed that way for awhile. then at 50% (which is what it sounds like you are at) at 36 weeks when they started doing my weekly cervical checks. dont worry to much about it :) Stef, you dont have to efface first but a lot of first time moms do... then in subsequent pregnancies since you body knows what to do it'll efface and dilate at the same time. its different for everyone though. this is my first baby and I have been steadily effacing and dilating from week to week.

lol dont worry about it hon.. I read wayyyy to much for my own good so I know way to much about this stuff LOL and I want to be an OB/GYN eventually so Im getting a head start on this stuff. if your cervix is getting shorter it means you are effacing, and of course there is dilation which is when the hole is opening. your doc will also check for position and texture as well :) it can all be added up for something called a bishop score that is used to determine how likely an induction would work for you. anyway lol this is getting a bit off topic. bottom line is its totally normal to start effacing at this stage, if you have any concerns dont be afraid to talk to your doctor about it :)
