Game Ideas for Baby Showers

Why Play Games?

Games can play an important role in the success of a baby shower. If they are thoughtfully planned and geared toward your guests, baby shower games can turn a mediocre event into a memorable occasion to be talked about long into the future!

You can plan simple baby shower games requiring minimal guest participation, or you can prepare games where your guests get right down and dirty! It's up to you to determine what best suits the theme of your baby shower and the nature of your guests. The goal is to add some fun and laughter for the parents-to-be, and to create a lighthearted and warm atmosphere for all.

There are literally hundreds of game ideas for baby showers in books and on online, and you can also make up your own games or activities. Here are some to get you started.

Games Suggestions

•1) "Baby" Song List: Give everyone some paper and a writing utensil. Set the timer for five minutes, in which time everyone must write down as many songs as they can think of with the word "baby" in their title or stanzas. This baby shower game is a crowd favorite, and you will be amazed at the number of tunes you come up with!

•2) For a good laugh, adapt the classic "Pin the Tail on the Donkey" game to "Pin the Egg on the Penis" or to "Place the Pacifier on the Baby's Mouth." Any game with a blindfold is bound to create some cheerful mayhem!

•3) Continuing with the blindfold theme, have your guest try their hand at "Blindfold Diapering"! You will need at least two large-sized dolls and some diapers. Divide guests into competing teams. Wearing a blindfold, each team member must remove and then place a new diaper on the doll and then go to the back of the line. The first team to finish is declared the winner.

•4) Baby Name Geography: A takeoff on an old favorite! Going around in a circle, each person must come up with a baby name whose first letter is the same as the last letter of the previous name. No names can be repeated, and you can limit the game to only girls' names or only boys' names to make it more challenging. This baby shower game is a great way to get those brain wheels rolling about baby name ideas for your baby-to-be!

•5) The Baby Alphabet or Memory Game: In the first version of this game, each guest has two minutes to write down all the baby-related items they can think of which begin with a certain letter, i.e. Applesauce, Baby Bottle, Cuddly bear, etc. The second version is played going around in a circle. The first participant names a baby-related item beginning with the letter A; the second participant adds an item beginning with the letter B, and must repeat the item beginning with the letter A; the third person adds a new item beginning with the letter C, and must repeat the previous A and B items; and so on.

•6) Guess the Baby Picture: On a wall or a screen, place pictures of all your guests as babies, including pictures of famous or celebrity babies, and let everyone guess who they are. Guaranteed to add some fun and laughter to your baby shower!

Hopefully these game ideas for baby showers have awakened your creative self and you are on your way to hosting a baby shower that is the talk of the town!
