I posted this in infant care forum but nobody ever responds over there....anyway...to those of you who have already had babies...I need some help. My 4 month old has had this rash like eczema on his head and cheeks since he was 2 months old and it seems to be getting worse. I have taken him to the doctor SOOO many times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong that he just has sensetive skin. I switched his milk to Enfamil and the rash on his cheeks was gone within a day and it cleared up a lot! Well, now it seems that when he's sleepy and he rubs his head and his eyes and face those places start to come up. They are red and yellow scales on them....very very dry! I am constantly coating them with Aquaphor. I just don't understand. Anybody know what this is?? It seems the doctors don't give a c__p! They are all over his head where he rubs it and where he turns his head from side to side and his head rubs whatever he's layding on. Sorry this is so long.

babies tend to get scaly flakes on their head almost like dandruff but it stickes more to the scalp. as far as the cheeks though im not sure what that could be, he may just have sensitive skin. the weather might have something to do with it too.

My son had what sounds like the same thing, from aprox 6 weeks to 4 months his face had a rash & a scalp was flaky & had scales too. The Dr. just said to use gentle cream on his face & brush his hair allot to get the flakes out (he had tons of hair). I used Aveeno unscented for babies & after a few months it cleared up on it's own.

It sounds like the same thing my son has, which is exzema (sp). The only thing that works on his is 1% hydrocortisone cream. Every day I rub him top to bottom when I get him dressed in the morning and then again at night before bed and he is fine. I don't know where you are located but if you have a Sam's Club or BJ's they sell the big tubes of it there. The ones you get at the grocery stores dont last me long comparred to the ones I get at Sam's. Good luck with it.

Hi Nurs2b, here's my advice DO NOT use hydrocortizone, there are other creams out there that will work just as well with out the toxic chem's. My husband had eczeme since he was a child and when he got older he started using hydrocortizone, and it raised the blood pressure in his eyes and caused the nerves to burn out. so half his eye he's blind. don't put on stuff you haven't researched thoroughly. change yoru babies detergent and bathing products. go to cosmeticdatabase.com to determine the best ones that are available in your area. it sucks but think about switching to more natural cleaning products for bathrooms, tubs etc that he can be touching. i'm 34 weeks and have been researching and plan on doing the same, knowing that my husband has ultra sensitive skin just means that it might be heriditary and i don't want to chance anything.

The doctor did tell me to use hydrocortisone but only twice a day. I've tried that but it doesn't even touch it so I don't even use it anymore. It isn't just like little scales on his head...i know what that is because he had that too...but these spots are almost like welts. They raise up and get really puffy and get yellow scales on them. Sims....thanks for the advice too but there's not much more I can do because I have really sensetive skin too so I wash all of our clothes in free and clear and I am using sensetive everything..on me and him. I'm just so confused as to what to do. I wondered if he could be allergic to certain fabrics...I just don't know. I'm just upset with the doctors because it's like I just get ignored but I know it's getting worse.

My advice would be to get a new pediatrician who takes your concerns seriously. My daughter is 26 months and has a very mild case of exzema, I slather her form head to toe with lotion every night and again in the morning. It really seems to help. Ofcourse it doesn't sound like my daughters case is as severe as your childs is.

A little bit, it is sort of bumpy I guess. I use Eucerin lotion, it is kindof greasy. I put that on right out of the bath and then put on her jammies. I don't put it in her hair, but she does have a patch on the top of her head that I am watching.

Sims1 has the best idea yet. Yes, take your lo to the dermatologist.

Hi, I don't know if you've tried this, I didn't read through the whole post, just the question. All babies get that, it's hard to get rid of and is a pain. I used T-Gel shampoo on my daughter. It sucks trying not to get it in their eyes, but is sure worth it. It cleared up within 3-4 days of using it once a day, after that I used it once a week as a preventative measure. You can also try head and shoulders, that might clear it up, but Neutrogena T-gel actually cures it. My daughter had it is so bad it was on her ears and eye lids, until we went in for an appointment to get shots and her dr. told me about T-Gel, it's the same skin condition as the one that produces dandruff (not the dryness of the scalp itself, but the actual psoriasis type growth). Really hope it helps. I tried baby oil and hydrocortisone, etc - nothing helped.
