When The Baby Comes And Family

Hi there, I was kind of wondering what the rest of you ladies were going to do once your baby is here as far as when the parents and in-laws will be coming into town? My in-laws are so desperate to come into town right as I am in labor, but I just do not see myself wanting to see them. I'm going to be all dirty and tired and in pain. The last thing I am going to want to do is try and entertain my in-laws who are so ready to be grandparents. I want them to come into town two or three days after I've been home from the hospital just so DH and I can bond with our daughter and get an idea of what we are doing..even if we haven't perfected anything yet. What do you think? Just looking for some perspective.

I feel the same. I want the space. I am not calling parents till after baby is born, and I feel ok. I wont wait longer than 12 hrs though...speak to DH and see if he can handle it diplomaticly?

If that is what you want you need to let your wishes be known now, since they are your husband's family he should be the one to tell them. It doesn't have to be a big deal, just say "As much as we can't wait for you all to see the baby we hope you understand that we feel the birth is a private event" If they still feel the need to be at the hospital let them know they are welcome to sit in the waiting room and your dh will keep them updated.

Thank you ladies, it's such a tricky subject! My fam lives in Portland, OR and my in-laws live in Colorado..we live in OKC, OK so it's kind of a big deal for the fam to come into town. DH and I decided today that we really just want it to be DH and I and no fam. We'll have his fam in town first after being home from the hospital for two or three days so we can bond with our daughter. Then my fam will come a week and a half later..that way it'll give my in-laws a deadline for being in town. I love them, but they are in town soooo much I am going to be ready to just be with DH by the time DD is here! haha
