Sex And Contractions

The other night my DH and I were intimate, and right afterwards I started having a LOT of slightly painful contractions accompanying dull back pain... they weren't getting any closer or further apart, but instead were sporadic - like there would be 11 min between on set, then 6 min, then 2, then 10, then 4, etc. Could s_x have caused this? And if so, does that mean we should probably abstain until I get closer to my due date? I'm waiting to ask at my next appt but I'm curious as to if anyone else has experienced this and what you have to say about it.

Semen contains prostaglandin which can stimulate contractions and dilation. Some OBs/midwives even suggest this as a natural way to induce as you approach your due date. My sis and sil both swear s_x is what got their babies here. But i understand it really only works if baby is ready. It won't force him out.

Yeah, sometimes orgasms give women really bad cramping or contractions. Sorry! Semen does help to thin the cervix when you're close to your due date, but from what you're describing, I'd say it's probably caused by your body's reaction to the intimacy. Whether or not to abstain is up to you, but I would talk to your doctor at your next appointment. (If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the same boat...sometimes the pleasure just isn't worth the pain afterward!) Good luck!

dont worry about it i get it every time me and my bf have s_x and have since about 23 weeks its just that s_x can bring on braxton hicks apparently nothing to worry about, next time it happens just move around a bit they soon go

*nods* Thank you everyone for your replies. :) It's good to know I'm not alone on this one. Still going to talk to my midwife about it though before we continue just to make sure everything is a-ok. :)

I get cramps and contractions with my orgasms....that and round ligament pain from moving. Afterwards, I try not to move too much for awhile. I am only 25 weeks pregnant and thought this is too soon for such discomfort.
