I am not sure hon, but at 5 I would think they would want ot be monitoring you closley. If you are not comfortable with this, I would call L&D and see what they think. Get a second opinion. Your babe should be here soon!! Good luck!! :)

I would totally go to the hospital... I agree tht 5 is a bit much, but what do I know lol this is my first pregnancy. always seek a second opinion if there is an issue, I vote go to L&D or at least call and ask a nurse or something.

i guess its cuz your contractions aren't 1-2 minutes apart. id say thats why or they don't think you'll go into labor that fast. but if i were you id watch myself closely 5 CM's & your not at L & D that seems like nonsense to me but then again thats me? hopefully everything goes well. =]

I was dialated to five for two weeks with my first son. I made it until my DD then was induced. Som,e people do that. I have had four kids and dialated at different speeds for all. Just relax and it will happen. Just look at it this way, when it does hap[pen, you are 1/2 way there.

I'm surprised they stripped your membranes this early - blood is normal with that too by the way. I do hear you can walk around dilated like that for a while - and it is one person's estimate at how dilated you are. Maybe your cervix hasn't thinned enough yet so they aren't that worried. Who knows. I would have asked them why they did the stripping and why they sent me home.

I had my son a day after I had my membranes stripped. I worked the whole day after that and then my water broke and I was off to the hospital. So, hopefully, that helped get things moving further along for you. Good luck!

I was dilated at a four at 36 weeks with my 3rd baby and was 100% convinced labor was immenent. I didn't have the stinker until her due date with membrane strips at 38, 39 and 40 weeks! I am kinda surprised they stripped your membranes so early as at even 37 weeks some babies' lungs are still slightly premature. Just look at it as yourself getting a headstart in labor!

amy thats good to hear hes at -2 / -1 stage. that means his heads down there just not far enough to help contract you yet. im at -2 head stage have been for almost 2 1/2 weeks now. (im only 32 1/2 weeks) so you can be at that head stage for a while. if babys head stage doesnt change when you do dilate more then youll have a higher chance at c section. -3 to -1 means higher chances of c section 0 is 50/50 & +1 to +3 means natural birth.

im not surprised they stripped you if your that far dilated. alot of doctors do things for certain reasons (are you measuring big or anything? ) doctor might think baby will be 100% safe to come now.

Poor you, how horribly invasive!!! I was 5 cm from week 36 on and went into labor naturally at 39 weeks. But I had a very "not meddle with nature" midwife which was great! Sorry you had to go through unnecessary procedure. You might still not deliver for another week or so and most likely your midwife will do it again! I am so saddened when I hear all these unnecessary induction techniques. Read up on membrane stripping. Good luck!!

wow i cant beleive how many woman walk around at 4 and 5 cm. i really thought that at 4cm you had to be checked into the hospital. Wouldnt they be worried about an infection since your cervix is open so much? Is s_x okay? amylove0701 i would say that since all these other woman have done it then it must be pretty normal. Good luck with it all, hope your labor goes well.
