5 Mature Follicles With Clomid

Hi all, new to the site. I am on my third cycle of clomid. This time 150mg days 3-7. I went in last week to get ultrasound, 5 mature follicles all above 21mm! YIKES! My doctor is advising me against going forward with TTC this cycle. I am so torn. I am wondering what the chances of multiples are with this many follicles this size? Have any of you gone through this? My husband doesn't want to play with nature any more than we have to and does not believe in selective reduction. What are the chances of all 5 being fertilized??? THEN WHAT? PLEASE HELP! K

Sounds like all 5 are at the perfect size and with your doctor advising against it and you being against SR, maybe you should try next cycle. That said, the first time I did my IUI, it was with 6 mature (Or more) follicles and conceived only one

I have a friend with the same situation, 6 follicles and only one conceived! The thing is- we had intercourse last week twice before we realized how many mature follicles I had. The nurse says waiting til next cycle may be a mute point! I am willing to do whatever it takes to carry the babies! Thanks for your reply!

Another question. I am now on day 17 and still haven't detected an LH surge. Is that something to worry about? maybe I missed it. I am having pain in my right ovary where the follicles are! but I just thought it may be getting ready to release the follicles- after a few days of the pain I am a bit concerned. Anyone know??

Were you given the HCG trigger shot with the clomid?

No they wouldn't give it to me because they said it would raise the chance of multiples even higher. So I am going it alone, waiting! I did read somewhere that it may be normal to ovulate late on clomid cycles ie. day 18 or 19.. I am not giving up hope. Is it possible not to ovulate with all these follicles?

I have finally OVULATED! Yippee! I went in yesterday due to pain in my right ovary- all those follicles!! Had an ultrasound, the nurse saw 4 giant follicles, and the 5th had ruptured- Got a progesterone check and it was 17.5 they cant tell me how many ovulated but that for sure atleast one! I am too thrilled. I am still having pain due to the follicles being so large, one measured at 39, and the rest were around that. Needless to say, my poor ovary is in a predicament! Anyone been pregnant and had cysts too??

Angelsmom: How do you know by the level of progestrie how many you might have ovulated? What I mean is that you said your level was 17.5 .... Does that mean that anything over 40 would be more then one egg being released? Thanks for the info... heres best wishes to you.

That is a good question! They didn't tell me what the number meant, just that I had ovulated! I will call them and find out. Will keep you posted, don't get to test for pregnancy until the 25th!

So I called and talked with the nurse and she said the number does not indicate how many were ovulated- just a general answer as to whether ovulation occurred. I do get to go in on the 21st and get a serum pregnancy test! Then the hard part will be waiting to see how many of the 5 were fertilized!

i was wondering if any body can answer this i had took 100mg of clomid and i already o'd,but i have a pain in my left ovary i was wondering if any body knew what that can be, please help.

Angel621a - it could be a cyst. If it doesn't go away I would see the doctor and get checked out.

A level over 5 probably indicates some form of ovulation, but most doctors want to see a level over 10 on a natural cycle, and a level over 15 on a medicated cycle. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy.

I have had horrid pains in my right ovary and we did an ultrasound, it was from cysts- this was after I ovulated so some must have either been left over or cysts formed from the ovulated follicles. They said there was no problem with getting pregnant and having cysts other than the pain they cause. They usually go away by themselves by the next cycle.

Hi Girls, i wondered if any of you can help? I'm currently on my first cycle of clomid 100mg days 2-6. I think i ovulated a few days ago however i'm now on day 19 and have totally unbearable pains on my right side. The thing is, i don't have any ovary or fallopian tube on that side, i only have one tube and ovary on my left. What could this be? Can i get cysts on things like scar tissue which often give me pain? If i got pregnant would that cause pain? Would be grateful if anyone could help. Best wishes to all x

If you have no ovary or tube on that right side, I wouldn't "worry" too much, it may be "nothing." However, if you have endometriosis, that could cause irregular pains scattered throughout the pelvic region throughout your cycle. The likelihood that it is a cyst also could be there, but I think that is slim. It couldn't be a follicular or luteal cyst since there is no ovary producing estrogen or a corpus luteum, I would say the best thing to do is call your doctor if the pain persists for 24 hours straight.

Hi Linds99! Thanks for the quick response. Yes i do have endometriosis so hopefully it is a combination of many other minor things and not necessarily cysts. Don't want to panic too much just yet and would rather put up with the pain at least for the first cycle. Hopefully i'll conceive sooner rather than later and then i can stop taking clomid which i'm not happy taking. This drug seems to make me feel like bursting into tears for no apparent reason and is playing havoc with my skin. Thanks again & good luck to you x
