Does anyone know about a program called WIC? If so what do you know about it? A friend of mine told me that WIC helps you buy formula for your baby. We have been purchasing our enfamil & it is really expensive. We use powder enfamil & we normally spend around $125 a month. What does WIC give you a month in powder?

Wic gives you 9 regular size cans of powder formula a month until your baby is one year old. I know they only give you two brands to choose from though, one is similac with iron and I forget the other one. If your baby needs a different kind, you need a note from your doctor. I used to have a paper on the guildlines for being accepted but I threw it away a couple months ago...sorries. They have papers with incomes etc. to see if you are eligible. If you aren't eligible, ask your pediatrician for extra formula, they get so many samples, it might not be a whole months worth of formula but it will cut the costs for you. Hope this helps ya!

If you have medicaid you automatically qualify for WIC. You get 9 12.9 (standard size) cans of formula a month. We use Enfamil Lipli with iron. That is for the baby until they are a year old I think. (I think they can stay on until age 4 or 5) For the mom, depending on your health, bloodwork, weight, etc. you get 4-5 gallons of milk, 2 dozen eggs, 2 lbs of cheese, a bag of beans, peanut b___ter, a few cans of juice, etc. We also get vouchers for the farmers market. They sell fresh fruit and vegies. Anyway, I cant remember the income ( I know we make too much now and when we have to sign up again I won't qualify, we make around 40k between both of us) Also, we still have to buy atleast 1 can a month extra, but I promise 13 dollars for a can is much better than your $125! Good luck.

Stephanie is right about what you get...it's worth the time it takes (an hour or shorter cla__s once every few months). Look up WIC in the blue pages of your phone book (city section) or if you can't find it, call the department of human services and ask them for the number for wic. They can tell you about the income guidelines, which vary from state to state. If you have more than one child, your income can be more to qualify.

i have wic and u need to be either low income to qualify, have medicaid(then they usually sign u up automatically if u want to be in the wic program), or go to the health departments clinic for free or low cost and depending on how much the clinic covers for u then theyll ask if u want to be automatically signed up too. i dont know how much they give u bc im still primarily bf so theyre not putting formula on my checks right now(currently our checks are cheese, eggs, beans, milk, tuna, carrots, juice, cereal, and peanut b___ter). but one time we were in wal-mart and we saw one woman getting around 8 or 10 cans of the liquid nestle goodstart formula(which is the only formula wic uses).

but I believe your income needs to be around 20K. It varies from state to state, but that is probably the average.

I have heard alot of people say that WIC only allows one or two kinds of formula. I have a friend who is on Good Start, we are on Enfamil, and my cousins baby uses Similac. I am pretty sure they cover every type of formula.

In Virginia its only GoodStart. Atleast in Northern-VA and Washington DC. Back then they use to cover Similac.
