I went to the doctor today and I was 90% effaced and 1 cm dilated. I have been complaining about mentrual cramping since 31 weeks and was sent to the hospital to see if I was having contractions. I was 50% effaced and having mild contractions. I've been complaining to my doctor that I have still been having the cramping and she acted like it was normal. Well I had sharper pains last weekend and more stronger cramping today and she finally did an internal on me. She said I was 90% effaced and 1 cm dilated and had definately been having some contraction at some point. But when she hooked me up to the monitor I didn't have one contration. She scheduled me for an ultrasound and told me just to watch how much activity I did but I am not on bedrest. My Ultrasound slip say Threat of preterm labor. I ask her if she thought I would go early and she just replied that some women stay dilated for weeks. Any one else experience this? Do you think my little guy will come early?

I always began dilation and effacement early. The only thing I would be really worried about is dropping your baby in the toilet or having him/her in the car! My first child was born in 1 hour 17 minutes and she was INDUCED! The doctor would not let me leave after doing my last pelvic because I was 90% effaced and 6 centimers dilated. She said that if I had gone into labor naturally, I would have dropped her in the middle of some parking lot! The other thing to consider is that you could have your dates wrong by several weeks. You may be more like 36 or 37 weeks pregnant, which is not really considered premature anymore. Doctors do take that into consideration. I also believe that MOST doctors would not act like it was nothing if in fact it was something. She may just feel that the baby is a good size, healthy, and coming early would not be detrimental to him. The thing to do is tell your doctor your fears and ask direct, answerable questions. HTH
