Difference Between Dialated And Efaced

Im sorry if this question is way dumb, but I have no idea what it means? What is efaced/// I know dialted means 1cm wide, 2cm wide and so on?

Effacement is when the baby's head drops down into the pelvis and causes the cervix to thin and dialate. Throughout your pregnancy your cervix has been tightly closed by the mucus plug. When the cervix effaces, the mucus plug is loosened and pa__ses out the v____a. I hope the information I have provided helps you understand al little more. effacement is the thinning of the cervix and once your cervix starts to thin, it allows you do dialate more easily...but you can also be 100% effaced and not have any dialation.......by the time you are 100% effaced, you cervix is paper thin.

Your cervix is normally around 4 cm thick and firm to the touch. When you efface it becomes less and less thick and has more and more give when you press on it. Even when you are completely effaced (100% effaced) it doesn't mean that you are actually in labor, just that your bady is preparing for it. You could walk around for months completely effaced. Your cervix also has a hole through the center of it, like a donut. It is normally very tiny and tightly closed. As you have contractions, that hole will dialate all of the way up to 10cm at which point you will begin pushing to deliver your baby. For a lot of women, very mild contractions will dialate them slowly over the weeks or even months before labor actually starts, however, dialation is a better indicator of how close you are to labor than effacement.
