How bad does it hurt to get the epidural? I hear people talk about how great it worked, but how did it feel to have the epidural inserted?

I was terrified of the epi before I got, but I barely felt it. I would say the I.V. hurt worse. Weird huh?

My IV hurt way worse than the epi. The only thing that stung was the numbing medicine (think Novacaine type pain). It was not a big deal at all. But it takes awhile for them to give it and it sucks sitting still in that position when a big ole cintraction hits, lol. My first one did nothing for me. It never took at all. So they redid it and OMG I was in heaven. I was pain-free at 10 cm!

Thanks for the answers. I am probably going to take the epidural for the pain. I plan on getting it early on so I can enjoy the whole labor. I don't want to wait until the pain is unbearable and I can't sit still.
