Can any of you ladies tell me if you had any adverse effects whatsoever in either the admistration of or after effects of having an epidural?? I went without any drugs 2 months ago for my first and though it was quick, don't think I can hack that again. Now that I know what it's like, I think I should have an epi. Any side effects or symptoms you've had??
Thanks so much!!!

Nothing awful. They numb the site where they put the epidural in and that feels like a sting. Then once I got the epidural (which did not hurt with either baby) my only side effects were some nausea (no vomiting) and my teeth chattered. They said those side effects were normal.

I chattered, they also talk about a spinal headache, but they can fix that by just putting some of your blood into you spinal cavity (i think, they explained this to me after a shot of narcotics, so i may be remembering different) ask your doctor, they can always tell you.

Hey! My only symptoms from the epidural were relaxation finally from the relief of pain (hahaha) and some shaking/trembling a bit & chattering of teeth like the other girls mentioned.
Nothing to worry about...:)

I trembled too, and had the chattering teeth. The only other thing with me was that I couldn't pee due to the epidural for about 4-5 hours. I had to ask my OB to write orders for another catheter. They put it in and I felt so much better. Once the nurse took it out I had no problems going. I have a very sensitive system, this doesn't happen to everyone, and if it did happen to you it really isn't a big deal at all. I am sure I will need it again this time as well. Don't be afraid of the epidural, it is not big deal and it allowed me to enjoy the birth of my daughter.

I didn't have any side effects..My right leg was a little more numb than the rest of my body, and some of the meatier part of my right thigh was numb, but it didn't effect my walking. By the end of the evening, my leg was back to normal and I was walking around normally. I didn't want to do the epidural because I'd heard of terrible side effects, and I'm a bigger girl so I though they'd completely screw it up. But the got it in on the first try and everything turned out perfectly. The anesthesiologists know what they are doing, it'll be ok!

Thanks, that's reasurring. I know they do know what they're doing, but I'm the one that doesn't know so I feel like I just don't understand it that much and if I did I probably wouldn't worry as much. I'm a pretty skinny girl so hopefully they'll get it right too!
