I was out shopping with my DH when I felt a trickle of fluid (like water or pee) come out. I had gone to the restroom about 5 minutes prior so I didn't have to pee and it didn't smell like it. It wasn't a whole lot, but enough to soak through my clothes and was watery, not thick like discharge. So I called the hospital (doc's office closed) and of course they had me come in. They put me on the monitor for 20 minutes and baby seemed normal. I had not leaked any more fluid since the shopping incident an hour earlier. The nurse said she would probably not check my cervix and said she was gonna check the fluid with this paper strip. But then the strip turned blue and she looked confused and said she may check me after all but wanted to talk to the doctor first. Well, the doctor never came in and said since I am not leaking anymore to send me home. I asked her why the strip turned blue and she said sometimes it shows up in urine. I am confused because I thought that strip was supposed to distinguish the difference between amniotic fluid and urine. It was all 5 hours ago and I have not had another incident of leakage. Could anyone provide more information on what that strip does?

with my first pregnancy, my water started leaking. i would sit on the toilet to pee and would hear a trickle before i started. i called the hospital and they told me to come in. we went and they used the paper strip and it said that it was not my amniotic fluid and i must have lost control of my bladder. i knew they were wrong because after all they do not come from the same place and i could tell this fluid came from my v____a. anyway, when they called the doctor he said to keep me for a couple of hours so they could watch me. within an hour my water completely broke. they said there must have been a small leak. too small to detect. my advice is to take matters in your own hands. you know your body better then they think you do. good luck.

Thanks Jen, I haven't had a leak since that time so I really don't know. It just seems wierd to me that the paper turned blue and they sent me home. ~shrug~ I have a doctor appointment on Thursday so I a__sume if I did leak juist that little bit it won't hurt me to wait 2 days.
