i have been having some funny kind of tightening and releasing in my lower abdomen since iwas eight weeks pregnant, sometimes it is quite discomforting,but it only lasts a few second at a time

Those are called Braxton Hicks contractions and they are normal as long as they are not regular and are not followed by bloody discharge or anything like that.

I had those too, early in my pregnancy. Now I'm 38 weeks. If they feel kind of crampy, my Dr. had said that it was the uterus stretching. I've had them throughout.
