I am 39 weeks w/ my fifth child. I have been having contractions for 2 weeks steady at 10 minutes apart and was dialated to 2 1/2 cm on Sunday, but my doctor sent me home and won't induce until the actual due date- next thursday. I can't sleep and am having severe leg cramps. My other 4 were all healthy 8 lb babies and were born before the due date with the help of pitocin. So I am really confused... why should we wait till the due date this time, at this point what does one week matter? Also he is concerned I may have gestational diabetes, so shouldn't that give enough reason to induce now?

I'm sure there is a reason your Dr. wants to wait. He probably thinks you won't even make it to your next appointment and would rather nature take its course. At least you have the date to look forward to! A week won't increase the weight a whole lot so I wouldn't worry. I myself am 40.4 weeks today and soooo ready to go...

I would think that with you having gestational diabetes and it being you 5th child that they could induce you a week early. That's wierd.. but good luck!
