Anything I can do to prevent tearing during childbirth?

No natural induction here, s_x, 3 pineapples and even my waters breaking....I ended up being induced in hospital, which wasn't so bad. I now have a 1 week old beautiful baby girl. No matter how they get here, they are lovely. Good luck to you all x

I am 41 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and my cervix is still thick and I am dilated to 3cm and the baby still is not fully engaged. Any thoughts?

Apparently you can reduce your risk of tearing by a) spending some/all of your labour in water b) ma__saging your perineum with oil (e.g. olive) in the weeks leading up to your due date. Unfortunately though I think tearing is like getting stretch marks - if its going to happen, its going to happen. I'll still be trying both though - you never know!!!!

the whole castrol oil thing i have heard it works....if you are ready, bu if you and/or the baby isnt ready, all you will end up with is horrible pains, nausua and alot of pooping, it works the sme as a laxative. my doctor told me not to do it because the pains and half the women who do it have the baby in the car before they even make it to the hospital.

Well at 38 weeks the castor oild didn't work for me... Took 2oz on Thurs at 4.30pm ,and woke at 2.30am with cramps and needing the loo, then had mild contractions for about 1 &1/2 hrs - then went. Took another 2oz Fri at 12pm, and again, had cramps and needed loo at about 1.30pm. Then had contractions unitl 9pm. From about 7pm they were even coming every 5 mins - but didn't get any stronger, & just died off again. Thought won't try anymore, but so desperate, tried it again yesterday. This time took 4oz at 8pm, and woke at midnight needing loo - no cramps this time, and have had diarrehoa until about 4pm today. No cramps or contractions though - so would say it only works if the baby was going to come anyway...! Tried all the rest too, pineapple, s_x, curry, walking, warm bath, hot water bottle - and still nothing. I think I've got a stubborn little boy in here, a taste of what's to come!!! Bet I end up going way over my due date!

Hi! I have to say I am pregnant with my forth child and I used castor oil with my last baby. I went into labor 5 hours after I took and she was born that night. I never has any bad side effects. I never had diareea. I never got dehidrated or had stomac cramps. All of my friends that have tried have had the same as me, No Problem. I just thought you might like to know castor oil isn't all that bad. My doctor also said it was fine. So It can't be that terrible. I've never heard anybody say it's bad for the mom or the baby. Good luck I hope you deliver soon.

Evening Primrose Oil is not meant to cause labor, it is only meant to aid in thinning the cervix and preparing the body for labor. You can take two tablets a day from 34-38 weeks and then after that you can increase to 3 or 4 tablets a day. You can take them orally instead of v____ally also. At least that is what I read on a website for Evening Primrose Oil.

Try accupuncture. It may take a session or two but it works. Avoid taking oils, they will only make you more uncomfortable.

anell - July 29

I have tried everything trying to induce my labor raspberrytea, castor oil, primrose, chinesse herbs, black cohosh, labor balm, acupuncture, you name it i'vr tried it i dont know what to do anymore my due date is today and i am scared of going thru the same thing again. I had a really bad the time with my first child and had to be induced after 42 weeks if anyone have any suggestions please let me know i am at a stressful point right now

Jenn - July 30

Anell, have you tried the pressure points on your ankle that are supposed to cause contractions? I plan to try those myself. I've also been taking the evening primrose oil since week 34 and 3 days and since it is not meant to cause labor, only aid in ripening the cervix and preparing your body for labor, I have not experienced any discomfort because of it. I have had uncomfortable braxton hicks contractions, but I had those before take the EPO so I hardly doubt it is related. I'll let you ladies know if the EPO is working for me later. I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and they will be checking my cervix and since it was sealed up tight at the last visit, prior to taking EPO, we'll see if it truly does what it claims to do. Good luck Anell, I hope it turns out well for you. I was only 9 days over due with my first child when they induced me and I thought I was miserable then!

Hi there everyone! I've been reading your comments, questions and answers and was hoping someone could help me with my question or give me their opinion. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and it's my third baby, I have gained alot more weight with this pregnancy and the baby is alot bigger than my first two, I've given birth naturally both times with no epidurals, ect. but with this one I'm a little scared because of the size. I drank caster oil with my last baby, and that night gave birth to her with no complications but my question is, does anyone know if taking caster oil a week or two before your due date is ok? I don't want to harm the baby, but I feel like I'll be about ready to give birth by then and still have a big, healthy baby.

I've heard rubbing your nipples for long periods of time help induce labour. I know, it sounds silly, but I've also heard that it helps prepare your nipples for the beating they'll get from b___stfeeding as well. May as well hit two birds with one stone!

Jenn - August 2

I've also heard that and I have read that the proper way to do that is to put a warm compress on your b___st while manually stimulating or pumping with a b___st pump on the other for 15 min. on each side until contractions begin and then you can stop. If contractions begin to subside then continue to pump each b___st for 5 min. at a time until contractions intensify again.
