No Epidural Available

I rececently went through labour with an epidural and had a really good experience with it. They gave me the epidural about 10 minutes after I was admitted to the hospital. However, I have recently moved to a city that does not offer epidurals at all! It is because they are short several anaesthetists. As a result, I'm really nervous about having my next baby. I am seriously considering driving to the next city where they are available when I go into labour. I just had to vent!

I plan on not having an epidural with my next baby. With my daughter, it was only effective on one side...and labor wasn't that bad. The worst part was that I wasn't able to get up and walk around, which is what my body was telling me to do...I ended up with a c-section, and I firmly believe with every fiber of my being that if I had not had the epidural, I would not have ended up with surgery. Before you panic about not being able to have pain relief, why not investigate natural births? Talk to moms who've had them, and see what they say. :-) It might end up being one of the best experiences of your life.

Hey Amanda I am in the same boat because where I live the hospital is small and there isn't always an anaesthesiologist available. They don't offer epidurals, only gas and drugs so where this is my first baby I am also considering driving to the next city that offers it. It's a hard decision for me because the local hospital is only 10 min away for me.
