Stripping Of The Membranes

I am 39 weeks, and since my 36th week, I've only been dialated a half a cm. So tomorrow is my 39th week appointment, and I'm going to talk to my doctor about stripping my membranes. See if maybe it can be done tomorrow. And then maybe schedule a possible induction a day after my due date, next Tuesday. I'll keep you posted.

Same here. I am now 40 weeks pregnant and today is my due date. I go in today to see what they are planning on doing. I hope they induce me because I am so uncomfortable and my back is killing me

My baby was delivered on the 12th by ceserean. It was really inconvient but the proceedure wasn't as long as pushing would have been. 8lbs is kinda big to be pushing out but I'm just happy he's here.

Congrats! I unfortunatly have to wait until next Monday to get an ultrasound done and then they will plan on inducing from there sincei I will be 41 weeks. This is my third child and I can't believe I made it this far but it looks as though I might have to have a C-section due to the baby being so big and not fully engaged

I am 40 weeks today and I have had my membranes stripped for the second time today. I am 2 cm and 75% effaced. I'm hoping that it works this time becuase I am extremly uncomfortable and I havn't been getting any sleep at night time. I have a had a small amount of spotting but alot of clear discharge. I'm not sure what is the clear stuff itself and if anyone could help me on this that would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully my baby will come soon. This is my first child and it is a little girl that was due today. My friends and family kind of think that she is waiting for my birthday wich is the the 25. I have been scheduled for an induction for the 26 if nothing happens naturally.

The discharge is normal. Don't worry. That would be too cool if we delivered on the same day. mine is a boy. i feel bad because he is so cramped. I too have had no sleep. I was unable to have my membranes stripped again but just hoping that something will happen.

Thank you for letting me know that is normal. The not sleeping at night I think is what gets me the most. That would be pretty cool to deliver on the same day as someone else. I just dont want to deliver on my birthday. LOL

I don't blame you. I thought this one was coming on our anniversary and we did not want that either

i am 41 weeks, 2cm dialated and 70-80% effaced. yesterday they stripped my membranes it hurt a littlebit but it was pretty quick and it wasnt all that painful. yesterday afternoon i started having contractions and in the evening i lost part of my mucus plug(im not sure if it was the whole thing, this is my first pregnancy and im not sure what im looking for really and how much. but the way the doctors described it im pretty sure that was it.) anyways i went to the hospital and my contractions were every 4 minutes and were lasting about a minute each but they but it wasnt changing my cervix any and they were in a wierd pattern so they sent me home. but they did say tat it was deffinatly early labor but when i woke up this mornig my contractions had stopped i guess they stopped during the night sometime. so im not really sure if it works or not because even though i was contracting it they werent changing my cervix any and they stopped so i dont know but alot of other people have said that it worked for them. so its always worth the try.

Hey I am on my first pregnancy and had my membranes stripped 2 days ago. The doctor thought she would see me that night she said my cervix just melted when she touched it. I went from 1 cm to 3 cm and she said I was 80% effaced. I woke up with cramping so i walked and walked hoping something woud happen. Nothing happened of course. I think he is going to come when he is ready I just hope it is soon because I can't take it much longer. O and my b-day is on the 24th at the begining I didn't want to be in the hospital on my b-day either but now I don't care if that is the case because if so I will get to see my baby within 2 days :-)

hey catth! i wish you the best of luck. i felt the exact same way.

I am 38 weeks 4 days and am 3 centimeters dilated, 75% effaced, -2 station and lost my mucous plug over a week ago... I went in for my appt this week and the midwife said she would not strip my membranes until 39 weeks. I was disappointed because it is getting hotter, I am getting more uncomfortable and haven't gotten a good night's sleep in forever. I have had some thick stringy discharge today, but no other signs yet. I hope this baby comes soon!

I am 39 1/2 weeks along with my 2nd baby. My Dr. stripped my membranes 2 days ago. At first I did have a little cramping, but nothing really since then. Today I have had a lot of mucousy discharge every time I use the restroom. Does anyone know if this is my mucous plug?

Ali - July 23

I would like to say that yes it is your mucus plug but I dont even know for sure. I am 40 weeks and 3 days and I have been having the same discharge. I also woke up this morning thinking maybe i peaed the bed b/cuz my underware were soaking wet but I went and checked the bed and it wasnt wet at all. I'm wondering if maybe I broke my water while sleeping. I also went shopping today and my clean underware were wet again. I was told yesterday at the hospital that I am in early labor but not late enough in it to be admitted. I have been cramping since I had my membranes stripped on weds morning, and have had the mucousy dishcharge since then too. If anyone knows if it was my water that broke please respond to let me know. :D

I am 38 weeks, with my 4th child. I have been dilated 2m for 2 weeks now and have had my membranes stripped 3 days ago. The procedure didn't hurt at all but that night I was having such bad contractions I was in the hospital for 5 hours. I was told that i was contracting but they were not causing me to dilate. they finally gave me a sleeping pill and sent me home. It was very depressing to go through that much pain and not produce a baby, and also knowing that I have to go through that again soon made be very negitave on the procedure. My Dr. will be doing it again in 2 days but I'm not sure that I want to go through that again. I believe that when he is ready, he will come. Good luck to all..

Just to let everyone know. My stripping put me in early labor for 5 days and then on the 5th day i went into active labor wich just happend to be my birthday. The next day at 7:07 am i gave birth to my daughter. I had and induction scheduled for that day at 7:30am.Oh well guess I didnt need that. I just wanted to say that I belive that the striping of the membranes works. thanks for all your comments
