like want to be in the room with you or watch a tape later? don't know why that matters, i think it is too young. perhaps you could just get an education video for them. you don't want to have to worry about your neices when you are in labor, it could really freak them out!!!!! i say too young.

The only thing that matters is how comfortable you are. If you are okay with them being there then go for it. If you think it will make you uncomfortable then don't.

I would have the watch the one on pbs.com, the mircle of life, and see what they think of that. If they feel fine with it, then go ahead. Just let them know that if they start to feel uncomftorable in the delivery room, that they have the option to leave. Good Luck

If you're delivering in a hospital I would check their rules on children being in the room. At the hospital that I'll be delivery at, no children under the age of 12 are aloud on the labor/delivery/recovery floor of the hospital at all, except for siblings.

Steph has the right idea. Try to find out in advance if they can handle it and make sure they know they can leave. You know them, what do you think?

I would let them watch, just explain to them what they should expect.

My nieces, aged 6 and 7, just witnessed their mom's home birth (in a water tub). There were plenty of trusted adults around so they could hide behind them and be rea__sured if it got too intense. My older niece even got to cut the cord of her new baby brother. Not my style personally, but I think it really depends on the maturity level of the kids. I do like Steph's idea.
Also, if you end up giving birth at 3 AM, your nieces might not stay awake for it anyway :)
Good luck and good health.
