Hi ladies, I just found out today that our baby has bilateral choroid plexus cysts (16weeks) my Dr. wants me to go for an amnio in 2 days. He didn't find any other abnormalties with the baby and I am wondering if I should do the amnio or just wait to see if they go away. Should I wait? I heard that you can miscarry from amnio and I don't want to loose a healthy baby.

Marla, I just had my 2nd ultrasound on apr. 21 and they found two "cpc's". Me and my husband have been very worried. It's all I can think about and I must have been to a hundred different web pages to research it. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers for you but I do know just how you feel. You are all in my prayers. Buffy

Hi everyone, just today my husband and I found out that our baby has a choroid plexus cyst. Our Dr. didn't give us any info on it's size but tried to rea__sure us that no other abnormality was found and not to worry and just to go in for another ultrasond in a few weeks. Yikes try not to worry. I've already shed some tears...this is our first baby. After getting home I've just been on the internet trying to gain knowledge about this. Thank God for this website. I wish everyone strength to wait things out and try to stay calm. From what I've read it seems that most babies diagnosed with this seem to be male. We don't know the s_x of our baby and I'm wondering if there's any relation? I'm also wondering if it's better to wait until I'm actually 26wks to have the second ultrasound. Even though our Dr. said to book it in 2 wks? My mind is just running. I'll be praying for everyone on this list.

I just recieved a call today telling me we had a CPC on our first baby. It was a 19 week ultra sound and to make it scarier we were on a follow up ultrasound that we had 11 days ago. I scored 1/16 chance of Trisomy 18 and this follow up marker makes me really nervous. Anyone had these odd?

Hi Everyone, been following this forum since the beginning. Relieved to know I'm not alone in this but still worried until my son is borned (yes Marta, I'm having a son - my first baby). Had to answer to Liz's Q. Are you sure the odd is 1/16? That's very high. My revised odd is 1/16,000 (was 1/145,000 before a 5 mm cyst was found) and my total aneuploidy risk is 1/480 which is below the amino screen cut-off (I think the cut-off is at 1/250 or 1/200), meaning it's more risker to have an amino than my baby having T18. Because I lived in BC, Canada, my first ultrasound at week 18 was automatically a detailed one (a lvl 2) and no other abnormalities were found. I'm currently at week 28 and will be seeing my OB at week 31 at which time I could request another ultrasound to see how my baby is developing (probably an automatic lvl 2 again) to ease my tension but is not necessary as the cyst will be gone by then.

It's great that people respond to questions and keep everyone posted. It gives the rest of us hope.

CPC - our boy at 16 weeks was shown to have a choriod plexus cyst 1 month ago and I panicked, my follow up ultrasound yesterday showed that it resolved on it's own. I had an Amnio and AFP, both normal. I had the amnio because at 34 the risk of trisomy 18 occuring was the same as the risk of an amnio. Like mine, your CPC will probably resolve on it's own, and maybe if you had had your ultrasound a few weeks from now you would not even have known it was ever there. Good luck.

Hi Marla and others, I finally got my second ultrasound, even though my docter thinks it's not necessary because the cysts will be gone and other abnormalities don't occur after 18 weeks, he agreed to rea__sure me. I'm very happy to have one, I'm scheduled for next week (28 weeks), I would'nt have insisted without this website, let you know, take care.

Hi everyone. This is my second pregnancy and we too found out that our son has bilateral plexus cysts at my 17th week u/s. After crying for an hour, I read the research and posts and decided that it wasn't a big deal .I went yesterday (20 weeks) for my level two. They found that the baby also has a calcium spot on his heart. They also told me that his head was smaller than usual. My son, Avery was born in the 25th percentile for head circ_mference, but he is a healthy, active two year old- so that doesn't bother me. My doctor called me that night and wanted to schedule a amnio. I go to do my amnio next Tuesday. My odds for trisomy 18- or 21 are higher now- and I can't be positive anymore. The phone rings every five minutes with friends and family that want the news- but I just unplugged it. I think updated posts are important, so that you can hear another success story. I let y'all know what happens.

MONIKA, MY SISTER HAS FIVE YR OLD TWINS AND WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT,THEY TOLD HER THAT THE GIRL HAD A CALCIUM SPOT ON HER HEART.IT WAS SO SCARY FOR HER RIGHT UP UNTIL THE END.THEY EVEN BEGAN TO BRING UP DOWNS SYNDROME AND DISCUSS ABORTION W/HER.SHE DECIDED TO HAVE AN EXTENSIVE SONOGRAM AND....MY NEICE IS A LOVELY, PERFECT,HEALTHY LITTLE GIRL. BE EXCITED AND DON'T LET ANYONE MAKE YOU FEEL ANY DIFFERENT.I KNOW IT'S EASIER SAID THAN DONE BUT,JUST TRY TO BE POSITIVE.

Thanks, Buffy. That makes me feel a little better. My doctor also wants to do a Prenatal EKG of his heart. Hopefully nothing is worng, but if there is something, I'll take a heart defect over Trisomy 18 anyday. we will see- too early to worry- though I do it 24/7. I even dream about it.

Hi, Thanks Marla for starting this discussion it has helped alot.My 18 week u/s showed a 4mm choroid plexus cyst on the left lateral ventricle with no other markers noted. Thanks to everyones' responses my fear for my new baby has eased slightly. However I will feel better after I have a 28 week scan.I will try to relax.

my first Ultrasound at 20 weeks showed cpc's. My doctor barely said anything to me about them, but didnt seem overly concerned since my bloodwork came back fine. She sent me in for another ultrasound at 24 weeks. The tech said the cysts looked smaller, but I'd have to wait to talk to my doctor. I'm 33 yrs old. Should I have an AMNIO?????? From what Ive read--Is it true that if there are no other warning signs/abnormalities, that the baby should be ok? I dont think I would be ready for a child w/downs........

Monika - May 5

I wouldn't do anything else if everything else was normal. Your baby has 99% of being perfectly normal. My cousin's baby had the cysts all the way up until the last week- but he was born without them. They will go away

Sandy - May 6

Thank you for the rea__surance.

I am 33 and was told there was a cyst. They think it's a girl. The doctor told me it was the part of the brain that makes the fluid for the spin and that it was larger than ones they've seen before. I go in again in 4 weeks. I think this web site is really helpful. It makes me feel much better to know that it usually resolves. I am not going to have the amnio because I believe it is a risk.
