Wow! I am not alone! I got the Paraguard (copper IUD) in December 2007. I have two sons, 4 years and 18 months. We were happy with our boys and thought we were done having kids. My period was 11 days late, but I did have a VERY stressful month, so I just thought my period was late. I took a pregnancy test and to my surprise, it was positive! I went in the next morning to see my OB. They tested my blood to confirm the pregnancy and check my levels. The result was positive, but it was still too early to see anything by u/s. They removed the IUD and told me that I have a 30% chance of miscarriage and 70% chance of having a healthy, normal pregnancy. They had me come back 2 days later to check my blood again. I went in and the numbers were doubled, which is a very good sign. I will be going in on Thursday, so they can check my blood and do an u/s if the numbers are high enough. What a rollercoaster ride! I am putting it in God's hands and am trying not to freak out too much. I feel if it is God's will for us to have a third child, then it is meant to be. I will update on Thursday. Good luck!

Well i have to say i am a bit shocked to be reading all this but i can relate. I've had the Mirena IUD for a little over 4 years and lately i have been feeling far from my usual self, I never thought about being pregnant until my husband mentioned it lastnight. I've been safe for 4 years.. I've never been able to check my strings my doc cut them short for my husbands benifit.(they poked him)I already have 3 children and i can't really remember how i felt at the beginning my youngest is 5 and all of my preg. were completly different. So now i am a little clueless as to what action i shoudl take I was planning on having it removed after the 1st of the year to allow my body to heal a bit before trying for another baby around june. I guess i will give it a lil bit to see if i feel better if not i will do a hpt and then followup with my doc. I do know that in my 4 years of having this i've never felt as bad as i do now and i'll also mention I've not had a period in over years and my iud has been moved and shifted around my doc didn't seem to think this was a problem cause it happens after s_x she just explained it as trauma and gave me a hand gesture to mimic it i guess. So i will keep reading and updating I'm so clueless right now. not sure what to feel

Hi, I went in on Thursday and my levels had "risen nicely", was what the doctor said. They had doubled every 2 days, which is a good sign, but they were still not high enough to do an u/s. I go in on Monday for a v____al u/s. My doctor said by then my numbers will be high enough to see if there is a sack in my uterus but still not high enough to see a heartbeat. I am SO SO anxious. This is so hard. It is the most difficult thing I have ever been through by far. Good luck!

Wow ok so I am shocked at how many people have gotten pregnant with an IUD. I have the Mirena IUD and I think I am pregnant[ugh]. I had a very thick discharge that was so abnormal on the 5th of october[my last period was on the 26th of Sep. and lasted for two days] I've been having some cramps, lower back pain, headaches, bloating, fatigue, bad acne on my face that I discovered yeaterday and I started crying:( Today I am feeling horrible I just want to be in bed all day. I am taking a HPT tomorrow morning, I am so scared! I will give an update then. Any words of encouragement are greatly needed. Thanks:)

Hi all sorry I havent checked in for a while, but I still have not taken my hpt. I guessI have been scared and busy. But since my symptoms are only being that much more obvious I am going to take it sat morning. I already have 2 kids 2 and 1 and I really cannot afford another one. That is why got mirena. What a false sense of security huh? I also just started school again to try to get our lives back on track and if I am preggers again I do not know what kind of affect this is going to have on my children already. My oldest doesnt talk. He regressed so much when I had my second child. It makes me sad to think that it could happen again. He just started to come out of his shell and my younger child is just starting to begin to talk. In terms of their development I am totally freaked out on what impact my having another baby could have. I really hate the doctors give the iud a great grade. If they tryuly are supposed to work 99.99% why are all of us having these issues???? Hmmmm..... well I will check in on Saturday. Good luck to you all!!!!!!!! ;) Keep on smiling

I just found this website and feel relieved to know that I am not the only one that feels like their going crazy. I have had my IUD in for 6 years (5yr one). I have never had any problems before. I did notice that I had been gaining weight and my pants are starting to get real tight on me or not fit at all. I just a__sumed that I was just getting fatter. A while back I remember feeling my stomach and thinking to myself that if I didn't know any better I would have thought that I was pregnant because it felt somewhat hard. Granted I didn't think much after that until one night while I was laying in bed, I felt movement in my stomach. I grabbed my husbands hand and he felt it also. We quickly got a pregnancy test, but it came back negative. Oh well, I thought that was that. But the problem is that I continued to feel the kicking or movement inside my stomach. I even got another test and took it, but it was negative again. I made an appointment with an ob/gyn which is scheduled for Friday. I explained to the nurse that I really believe that I am pregnant even though I have an IUD because I have had two children before and know what it feels like. Granted she said that I must not be because both home preg. tests came back negative. She said that if I were that far along to where I can actually feel the baby kicking, I wouldn't be getting a false negative test. All I know is that even though I wasn't planning on having another baby right now, I hope I am pregnant because I have already somewhat gotten attached to what I think is a baby inside me. If any one has had this experience before - testing negative when actually being far along pregnant that you feel kicking - let me know. All I know is when I go to the doctor on Friday, I am going to beg for an ultra sound to see for myself that there is no baby there because I can feel SOMETHING kicking through out the day, especially when I lay down at night and relax. If anyone has any advice, I'll take it!

I have had the Mirena for over a year now. At first I noticed that I had gained 9 lbs but I couldn't see it. Lately my b___bs are much bigger, my stomach is poochier, I have heart burn and headaches. My husband mentioned that I might be pregnant and now I feel nauseous. I don't know if its just in my head or if its real. I was 8 wks pregnant before and took two HPT that were both negative, that was over a year ago. I was pregnant when I went to the doctor, I do not have a baby. We decided to get an IUD after that because we really weren't ready. Yesterday and today I have taken HPT that were both negative. Not that those mean much because they were wrong before. I have a Drs Appt on tuesday to get my IUD checked, so I guess I'll find out then. I thought I would sound crazy if I told my doctor I felt pregnant when I have an IUD but now that I've read all these posts, I don't feel so far off. Anyways, I'll post again on Tues. to let you all know the results.

I got my Mirena put in December 2005. I eventually stopped having periods and occasionally spot. I know of at least two times in the past two years where I went through the "am I pregnant?" fear. I get the symptoms - nausea, heartburn, tender b___sts. I got through 2-3 months of worry, taking pregnancy tests and getting negatives. Eventually the symptoms subside and I'm still not pregnant despite the two times I really thought I was - despite the HPTs being negative.
In one incident I did have a faint positive HPT, but they were all negative afterwards. I gather that I was pregnant but the IUD did what it was supposed to (maybe a little late) and aborted the fertilized egg. It really messed with my hormones too.
I'm not sure I'd recommend this IUD to anyone. I love not having periods, love not having to deal with taking pills or getting ma__sive hormone shots (which messed my sister up significantly). But still the whole knowing I have a 1-2% chance of getting pregnant, then dealing with pregnancy symptoms every few months really gets annoying and stressful.

i have had the copper iud since july and everything has been fine so far. i have had regular periods and normal pms. in November my husband and i fell apart for a bit...during that time i bled and bled...little more than spotting but for the whole month. went to dr and she said everything was fine and stress does terrible things to a body...sure enuf when the stress ws gone so was bleed...we reconciled in early dec and had s_x a few times that month...my period came on right date but was little lighter than normal...i didn think ne thing of it. we got married a second time on new years and for the following week (honeymoon) we has ALOT of s_x...like every 2 hrs...now i am scared...i totally wonder if there is a sperm capasity limit...and did we mess up. we do not want any more kids... our 3 are allmost grown and we are loving our freedom again...i am due in 3-5 days for period but am having no pms signs...after reading all these posts i am sooooo scared.
i am glad i have found a place for support.

I had an IUD put in after the birth of my third child 6 years ago. Everything was fine until October when I was late and had a positive at home preg. test. As soon as I called the doc, I started cramping and bleeding. I was fine with the miscarriage, I really did not want any more children (I'm 38). I went to the doc, and he explained that everything is fine. The IUD just prevents implantation. It was a fluke and shouldn't happen again. So, imagine my surprise when the same thing happened on Monday. I took a test, and it was positive. So, I called the doc again. And guess what. I'm really preggers. No miscarriage now! He took out the IUD and away I go. I am glad I'm not alone. I'm just not as thrilled as most eveyrone else seems. I just keep crying. I guess the happy will come...
