My niece has had two pregnancies in which she has lost her babies. They say the placenta falls apart. No one seems to know why, though. Whn it happened the first time they said it was a rare happening. Then it happened again. Has this happened to anyone else? Or does anyone know of any causes that could make this happen?

My mom lost three babies because the placenta was disintagrating in the ninth month. It was scriveled up I guess. They never did say why, it was 30 years ago and just didn't have the technology to figure it out. I just lost my first baby in the ninth month and the placenta was small for the babies size. They are looking into vascular problems as well as diabetes. I'll let you know if I find anything else out. It is a rare thing but I guess some people it just keeps happening to. My mom almost lost my brother but they took him 6 weeks early because they detected the placenta was failing again and were able to save him.
