Progesterone Level

Just wanted to see if anyone is experiencing the same issues that I am? I'm now 8 weeks 2days. I have been on Prometrium since day 20 of my cycle. Started on 100mg now up to 400mg. I have a 3 1/2 yr old son and was on Prometrium with him, but my initial progesterone level was 14 and went up to 56 after 2 weeks. I miscarried in Oct. and was not on the prometrium. With this pregnancy my first progesterone level was 6.6, the next week had stayed the same, then it went up to 8.4, and the 4th week it had only gone up to 8.6. I had an ultrasound at 5wk5dy and everything looked good...hearbeat 125. I had another ultrasound today and everything still looks good and the heartbeat is 179. I have mild cramping at times, but no spotting at all. Now they are not testing my progesterone levels anymore and I don't have another appoint. for 3 weeks. The doctor said since everything looks good in the u/s and my levels are rising (although extremely slow) then I basically just have to wait it out. This is driving me crazy. I have no idea why my levels aren't rising and the doctor doesn't really have any explanations. He doesn't even feel taking prometrium will help and that if you are going to miscarry you will do so even on a supplement. The only reason he prescribed it is because he is in a practice with 10 other doctors and they agreed across the board to prescribe it. I'm trying not to worry and leave it in God's hands, but I'm am terrified of having another miscarriage.

Stephanie, Hi. Ihad the same problem. My progesterone level was 15.6 at 5 weeks and only 16.4 at 6 weeks after using progesterone for 4 days, at 8 weeks progesterone was 18.7 but hcg had gone up to 138,000 which I guess has peaked. I also had 2 sonograms, both wonderful news, 7 wks 3 days heartbeat was 146 and at 10w4d it was 160's but heard it in between there at 153. So heartrate is pretty consistant. My OB said once they get two sonos that look rea__suring, levels are not indicative as ultrasounds are. So they trust the ultrasound at that point more than the levels, primarily because there is such a wide variety for normal. I also wanted to to say, my levels were normal when I lost my son at 23 weeks, so I think we are putting too much emphasis on progesterone alone and driving ourselves crazy. I think anyone who has suffered a pregnancy loss is going to panic and that is our right to do.But try a bit to enjoy this pregnancy, you might look back in a year, with a beautiful baby and wish you had written down all positive thoughts and feelings you were able to have.I wish you and all of us the very best, and take each day a day at a time. Take care~ Renee

Hi Becky, Mel and everyone. I had another doctors appointment today and the heartbeat is still up at 178 today. The doctor said everything looks really good and I don't have to come in every two weeks anymore. My next check up is in 4 weeks and the ultrasound was a little hard to see this time because the baby is upside down with its side to the camera so we could see the feet and legs kicking and the umbilical cord looks nice and long now, very clear in my picture they gave me. Two more weeks of progestrone and I am done! YEAH! Then at 18 weeks they are sending me to the hospital for a good clear look at all the organs and limbs and I'll find out if its a boy or girl. This is so exciting, its really a miracle that I got pregnant in the first place and now a blessing that its going well after such a rough start. Thank you so much for listening to me and I'll keep you updated.

Crystal-YEAH!! I am so happy for you. You deserve to finally have fun with this pregnancy. Let us know wether it is a boy or girl!

I was on clomid to ovulate. My MD did a progesterone blood test and said it was 5.3 and I probably did not ovulate. They were going to increase my clomid for my next cycle. I never started so I took a preg test and it was positive. I was considered 5 weeks pregnant. My MD put me on progesterone suppositories and I am now 16 wks. Good luck to everyone there is hope!!!

Hi, I've had several problems knowing if i'm still pregnant or not. I feel i am, but the doctors are saying different things. I believe i'm approx. 6 weeks pregnant. I'm unsure as i had two periods in Jan 05 due to coming off the pill in the middle of a packet. I had some very light spotting around the 3rd March 05, so went to the early pregnancy unit. I was told (after a vag. scan) that the womb was empty, and the baby may of miscarriaged, or it could be in the tube. They did a blood test on me, and told me to call back later for the results. I called back, and was told that my hcg result showed as 1'800, which is telling them that i am pregnant, and need to come back in for a scan. The very next day i went back in for a scan, and there the baby was in the womb. A week later i went back as i had some bleeding, i was scanned again. This time i was told the baby had doubled in size, fetal pole seen, and a flicking heart beat was seen for a few seconds as it was moved around. I left the hospital very happy. I was told to come back 5 days later to check the size as it was a very early pregnancy of just over 5 weeks. When i returned the lady was very unsure. She told me she could not see a heart beat, and the baby is still growing, but not much. She told me to prepare myself for a miscarriage. I had a blood test for my hcg and progesterone. The next day i rang for the results and was told my hcg was 8'545 and my progesterone is 65. The nurse told me that it is telling her my pregnancy is viable. A pregnancy which is not viable would of had lower hcg, and a progesterone level of 45 or below. She said i'm showing signs the pregnancy is progressing well. I'm very unsure what's happening. All the scans were done by different people. Regards Insights From London

Hi Girls- I am on my 4th pregnancy and just started progesterone for the 4th time. My kids are 12, 9 and 6 and they are all fine and healthy. I started spotting at 8 weeks with my first and went on the progesterone pill. My levels range from 9-13. All 3 of my kids are perfect and healthy. My prog. levels for this baby were 24 last week and now are at 16. Yicky pills once again. They do the job though. I will hopefully see the heart beat this week at 6 weeks. Good luck. It works. God Bless.

Crystal - Yaaaaaaaaaayyyyy! I am so glad to hear that things are going well for you, especially after having obstacles in getting pregnant. How exciting! I'll keep putting positive thought out there for you and the little one. Hopefully later this year I'll be looking at a happy little heartbeat on the screen. Have fun getting beautifully round!

I've had a nigthmare with the doctors. First they said no baby in the womb, but, then the next day it was. Then on a scan, at 5 weeks, i was told that there is no heart beat, and i was miscarring, however my hcg level is 8'545 and my pro level is 65 which makes a viable pregnancy. I'm having another scan tomorrow. I'm so messed up

Hello everyone...came by this website via a friend who was wonderful enough to look into this subject when I wasn't. I have 2 beautiful, healthy children (ages 6 & 8) and took progesterone pills with both pregnancies. I was thrilled to find out that I was pregnant again in Oct 2003, but started spotting at 8 weeks...went to see the doctor and explained that I had taken progesterone with previous pregnancies...he told me "we don't do that anymore because is was never proven that it works"....and stupid me said OK. I ended up having a D&C at 11 weeks when they could not find a heartbeat and noted "fetal deterioration". The doctor said it was due to my age (35), which made me a high risk pregnancy. I was devastated and a__sumed he knew what he was talking about. It took another year to get pregnant again...found out I was 6 weeks pregnant in Feb 05. Once again, started bleeding at 8 weeks...same doctor...same advice....I miscarried 3 weeks later. I had decided not to try again...convinced I'm too old to get pregnant and unable to endure more false hope. But now I have read all of your emails and see that progesterone IS still indeed used. I'm going out tomorrow and finding a new OB/GYN and the topic of progesterone will be at the top of my list. Thank you for your stories. I wish you the best and hope that I can come back and post good news about my next pregnancy!

?Progesterone Level - March 23

I have some questions. I am 7 weeks pregnant. When I first found out, my progesterone levels were low so they put me on Prometrium. They began to rise in one week - the doubled. My question is, now they have dropped? But they did get cardiac movement. Should I be worried?
