Not a good day for our ultra sound, The ultrasound showed that one of our twin sacs has demised, no heartbeat and it is measuring behind by about a week where it should be. The hopeful news is that the second baby is sitting high up on the uterus, good heartbeat and measuring right on the day he/she should be...9 weeks. More bad news is that my bleed has gone from 7cm to 12cm. The Dr. thinks that it can still be very connected to the demise of one of the sacs. I am just wiping old brown blood right now after my huge bleed last Friday. The Dr. says that it is likely that I will bleed significantly again soon when m y body tries to pa__s the twin who has not made it.
Has anyone had anything remotely similar happen and seen the other singleton go on to a happy pregnancy outcome. Sigh. This is so hard.
Any thoughts good or bad would be a comfort.
Thanks, Liz

Hope-Your experience does help give an idea what to expect. Liz-So sorry about the loss of one of your twins. I've heard of a lot of people losing one twin (not necessarily related to a blood clot) and going on to have the other. There is some worry about losing the other or the other placenta tearing a little from miscarrying the one, but I think we have to worry about that a little anyway with the blood clot. I have reason to believe I had a 2nd pregnancy that didn't develop far (based on something I saw on u/s) but I never talked to my dr. about it. I think I'll email him today and ask. I'm still bleeding dark blood every day.

Liz-I'm so sorry to hear about your second baby. My doctor actually had four children with IVF. The first was a singleton that started out as a twin. She did go on to have a healthy singleton obviously. I will keep my fingers crossed for you--I hope you can get as much rest as possible. I think it will help! Keep your head up as much as you can--that helps too :-)

Just wanted to say that my doctor responded back already to my email saying that he's not completely sure whether the hematoma is from a failed 2nd pregnancy or not but it doesn't effect this pregnancy any differently either way. Liz-how far along are you?

Here's our updat e-
We had another Dr.s appointment yesterday where we discussed the demise of one of our twins (after an ultrasound on Thursday). The Dr. said that the twin will be re-absorbed or it is possible that I will have another big bleed to expel. SInce my big bleed a week ago - I have just had dark, almost black blood. Very little on my pad but a fair amount when I wipe. He thinks that that is good sign. He also said to expect that it may take weeks/months to reabsorb. The Subchorionic bleed now measures 12cm but is still well below the good twin who is sitting high up in the uterus. Any thoughts from you wise women out there? My DH and I are so tring to stay positive that the remaining baby wil stay strong and make it!
Thanks for any thoughts or advice.
Liz

Liz- I like to imagine that the dark brown blood means the clot is draining--who knows?! Glad your baby is so far up away from the bleed. AS for me, I've had a lot of dark bleeding--sometimes gushes for over a week now. Can't wait for my next u/s--I'm just hoping all this old blood bleeding reveals a smaller hematoma. I'm hearing from everyone the same thing--it takes months to reabsorb. I'm really taking it easy lately since my uterus has been feeling crampy and sensitive. Take care, girls.

Hi everyone...
Liz, I am sorry to hear about your loss...
I saw my regular OB friday...she told me I have complete placenta previa, and that's what is causing the bleeding. Hopefully, it will move up, but she's only cautiously optimistic that it will(it may end up partial--better than complete!) She says she doesn't know what's better -subchorionic, or placenta previa...Well. I'm just worried b/c usually it doesn't cause bleeding this early on...

Hi Sherry Michael -
Interestingly enough I had a placenta previa all through my pregnancy with my son who is now three and a half. I did not bleed until Month 5 and then had a pretty big bleed at least once a month until we delivered. Each time I ended up in the hospital for 4 to 7 days. Each time while terrifying for me - the little guy was absolutely fine. My previa did not budge until the very end of the third trimester where it moved significantly but not enough to not have the Dr. feel comfortable for a v____al birth.
Try to take some comfort that you at least have an answer for the bleeding. Everything we go thorugh has so many unknowns that I think that it could probably drive us all nuts if we didn't have at least eachother to talk to.
Hang in there - Liz

Hi Maylee -
Is your bleeding any better? Is yours still dark brown? How often are you having ultrasounds?
Thanks for your support - I am going to try to stay cautiously optimistic that we can get through this!
Happy Sunday.!

SherryMicheal-How far along are you? Its nice at least that you have an explanation for your bleeding. Willsmom-Its been almost 2 wks since my last u/s. I go in tomorrow and I can't wait. I need to know what's going on. Yes, I still bleed dk brown everyday. How are you doing? STill bleeding? Do you cramp, too? Take Care everyone.

I bled from week 8 until week 13. Don't know why. Baby is growing and is okay. It has finally totally stopped. It could've been that my progesterone was low. My doc put me on progesterone at 8 weeks.

Did your dr. rx the progesterone because of the bleeding? How long did you stay on it? What form..pills or injections? Thanks for the positive story.
