Bleeding At 34 Weeks Pregnant

Ok I was admitted to hospital recently just for one night as I had some va___al bleeding after s_x, it was bright red and scared me a little as im34 weeks and obviously feared the worst. On examination the docs only seen traces of brown blood, my cervix was still closed and they saw no evidence on my cervix of why it would of bled. Before being discharged they said its quite possibly my placenta however my placenta on my last scan was high, I'm confused now! Is this now something to worry about or could it all just be bacause of the s_x. May I add I was getting contractions after I started bleeding which have now eased but I still have the odd bit of brown blood still coming away randomnly. Anyone experienced a similar or the same thing?
