Anyone Had To Use Beta Blockers During Pregnancy

I am almost 31 weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed with the heart condition SVT. The diagnosis came after wearing a 30 day monitor. Anyway, the cardiologists wants to put me on beta blockers but my research says thar are category B and C and have risks for the baby, Does anyone have experience with this? I'm really not sure what to do

Hey bubbasmom. Yes, actually this is my 2nd pregnancy on a Beta Blocker. I'm on Atenolol. Its a category D (Yikes, I know!) I've been on it since 2001 for irregular heart beat. When I became pregnant I was scared to death they'd take me off of it and my heart would go crazy. However, all the dr's I spoke with aren't too concerned. They said many women are on beta blockers for blood pressure, migrains, irregulary heart beats...even during pregnancy and have had no issues. I will say that my first baby (born 2006) was very small. She weighed only 4 lbs 14oz at 37.5 weeks. I had pre-eclampsia though, which can also produce small babies. I thought at first it was because of the medication. However, I'm now 100% convinced it was because of the pre-eclampsia. (I take a VERY VERY low dose of the beta blocker). Anyway, Your far enough into your pregnancy that there really isn't any threat to the baby. Most of the threat comes from taking the drug in the first trimester. Do they think your SVT (which If I remember right is short periods of a very fast heart rate?) is from the pregnancy?

Thank you for your reply. I'm curious how high and how often your heartrate goes up. My will go over 200 once every 3-4 weeks since I've been pregnant. It also goes to about 130 every day and can last for quite some time, although the cardiologist isn't convinced this is SVT. I've had undiagnosed SVT for yeras now but it hasn't gotten much worse during the pregnancy. I did ask about being in the third trimester and he said there are still risks so I'm happy to hear about your situation. I meet with my obgyn today and will discuss it more with her.
